If any of you were around when Chad had the M3 you'll know Chad's history with buying cars from other states hasn't been great. Waiting for the C30 to show up turned out to be quite agonizing even if Chad did everything in his power not to repeat the mistakes of the M3.
This time around the C30 isn't in that bad of shape. Few minor things here and there and we will soon be ready to ad some more POWER!

Can't wait to see where you go with this, I Race a ST225 in time Attack with the same engine, Love it. and honestly you'll see on the track the way the 5pot pulls you will sit next to cars with way more power. Also the Focus Short shifters should fit since its the same gearbox

The trunk cover bit you mentioned is to hold the spare tire cover up. Push the cover past those little nubs and it snaps in place. Just pull it back down to stow it.

I have a 2011 C 30. I’ve kept mine stock but have had to replace many of the things that you are currently talking about. Flea bay have the license plates for around $46. I replaced both axles and found the aftermarket ones fit with no problems.

Pre-Chinese Volvo power plants last forever as long as you don’t go too crazy with them and you take care of them. I have a 2001 XC70 w/ 550K miles, a 2009(?) S60 R-Design with 340K miles on it, 2011 V50 T5 AWD with 167K miles, 2010 S40 T5 with factory AWD (88K Miles) with I traded a PS4 Pro and a spare Sony 4K tv for. I just tuned up the V50 a new TCV and I replaced the AWD hub or whatever they call it with new one because it was recommend by Volvo tech he said not bad yet but defiantly had a rough life so wasn’t long for this world and with winter coming he said if it was his he would because that’s system is going to be called on more often in the snow and may fail when I need it. And suspension is great, but I’m considering and consulting my Volvo tech with what’s a good “upgrade” suspension that won’t spoil the practicability and usability off-road and onroad. But really, even though the TCV was worn out the guy at Volvo said probably another 3-5 years of life left in that before it’s trashed even then it’s okay for most Volvo drivers may not notice. But ya

Great video man! The timing belt is indeed a belt, the gear change should be firm and short stock so there’s probably something wrong with this cables/mount. Great engines. Mine is at 159,000 miles on the original clutch! Oh the engine ECU lives in the intake lol

just bought my '11 C30 R-design at almost the exact same time as you, little over a month ago w 52k on it.. MAN, do i love driving it..! my last car was an '02 bmw 325ci, and this car is just as fun to whip around.. possibly even more fun. always loved 2-dr coupes but wasn't a big hatch guy when C30 came out, but remember it well. now i think it's the nicest hatch out there.. i wouldn't have bought a hatch at all, if not this one.. anyway, been enjoying watching your similar journey..! sendin u good vibes, from a fellow nj C30 owner.

From the looks of it, it seems like it didn't have the r-design styling from factory. How hard would it be to swap on an r-design kit onto a C30 with the normal side skirts and bumpers?

I'm really excited to see where the Volvo goes, especially with the elevate upgrades! I have a 2011 c30, but I'm young and want to see what can be done to my car as well. I hope everything goes well so I can decide whether to start putting some money away for upgrades or for a nicer car.

also theres a plastic T in the coolant lines that is prone to failure. i would highly recommend getting a silicone hose kit from do88.

I have c30 with same engine too, But research "b5254t3 cracked sleeves" its a very common failure when getting close to 300hp. My car is getting a blockmod, putting shims between cilinders very soon to prevent cracking.

For the driver seat crack/tear I used MastaPlasta leather like patch on my C30. Easy to find on amazon and sticks good. I made a paper template to cut to shape so it fit the "leather" shape against the fabric seating area.

This is gonna be epic, if you going to boost high, make sure you shim the block or do darton sleeves, max boost on stock sleeves is 1.2 Bar/17 PSI is safe zone if you feeling brave then 1.35 Bar/19.5 PSI max, will definitely be following this, good luck to you sir.

as others have said the aftermarket drive shafts on these and the st225's with the same engine dont last long, buy oem if you can. also the shifts are always long in the m66's short kit as you said will fix that

A couple of suggestions/things to look for: - the coolant expansion tanks will crack on the top as the plastic gets brittle and lose coolant system pressure. Maybe not a big deal commuting, but if you are doing a performance build I would inspect and potentially replace. - Convert to the larger front brake rotors. It looks much better with the Sirona wheels you have there. - The R design seats have the red stitching and are all leather, so maybe try and pick up a set of those

rear dog bone mount is a first mod must, make sure you find a good isolated mounting point for the Elevate TCV or the clicking will drive you crazy, ...

Check out “Cravenspeed” license plate holder. A little bit costly but worth the money. Very rigid and I have it myself on my XC90. Talk to Thom from Cravenspeed if you need any changes done to it. Good American made parts from Oregon.

I had a c30 t5 from 2007 and drove it for 2,5 years. They are great cars but the axles and the gearbox are weak, and you may have some problems with some of the sensors inside the motor

Ive had my C30 R-Design since 2009, never had any issues. 80K miles still drives great. Probably my favorites car I've ever owned. So fun with the manual transmission. The S40 I had before this one was very reliable as well.

The ECU is in the Airbox and you need to dismount the lower engine mount and jack up the engine from below to get the airbox out. I sawed one of the airbox mounts off cuz i didnt want to do all that and installed a CCI filter from Simota. You will get a mount for the ECU from Simota btw. Love from a T5 loving Swede, we built this engine! And its a timing belt on this engine, Volvo likes timing belts.

In the boot (trunk) yes there is a cover. there is two types for this car. A solid plastic one and a soft vinyl one. The vinyl one is fine by the time you put in the rear chassis brace but I don't know if the plastic one would still work. The engine torque mount even if its fine replace it because it makes such a massive difference its crazy. I got the elevate one and was so surprised at the difference. the original is just garbage.

I smacked my '05 S80 into a dirt mound, and all I got from it was cracked paint. Not even the bumper itself, but the paint is cracked. So lucky.

also check the oil housing diaphragm on these engines, they are known to fail, if you drive around with a broken diaphragm you will blow out cam seals on them then the engine. you will hear when the diaphragm is fucked, it makes a horrible whirling sound.

I had a 07 Volvo C70, which is basically the same car but with a convertible top. I replaced both CV axles myself, and they were a pain in the butt to remove. Really fun car to drive compare to what I have now, 07 Lexus ES350.........

alpinab14 Hi! I had a T5. It was a very solid engine with pretty good sound. The routine maintenance is easy and cheap, but make sure the convertible top works or it would be extremely expensive and complicated to work on. For more driving fun, I would replace stock suspensions to coil overs. Extra strengthening to the chassis would also be beneficial. Hope this helps you!

@@alpinab14 U r very welcome! The AT was decent. I had that car for 3 years, and put around 50k miles on it. The transmission fluid was changed right after I got it. It has been very reliable, no problem at all, but acted little hesitate winter time, especially when cold. Not super smooth, but it works every time.

I have one and in my case the rear bumper has changed color compared to the rest of the car. Have it from new and it's slightly annoying as it has never been hit or repainted.

Our Racing team makes intakes for our Time attack cars, We do an airbox for these engines (Ours is the ST225) and the ECU mounts to the side of it, out of the way instead of the RS ECU mount.

will be interesting to see how you go about the engine, the T5 is inherently weaker than the T5R engines as it got weaker cylinder sleeves, so if you stay with the 2.5L i would maybe get a engine out of an R, or open the block if you want to use the original engine to reinforce the sleeves. depending on what power you hope to achieve.

@@ShiftingLanesOk, first and foremost, tires. I really really like my Continental ExtremeContact DWS06's on my S60. They have gotten a little bit noisier with time but they grip really well in my opinion. As for a short throw shifter. Both Viva and Snabb made a short throw shifter for the C30, unfortunately neither company still manufactures them. I'm sure if you get in contact with them, they may have one laying around the warehouse they can ship your way. I can not find another company that made C30 short throws. If the rear right flare ends up severely bothering you, here's those from Volvo: www.volvocarparts.info/2008-C30-T5-Right-Flare-p/39861217-200958-443343.htm Please look into shimming this block if you're going for north of 300hp. Just like R's this is an 83mm bore and it is still susceptible to cracking on cylinders 2, 3 and 4. Also, it's a timing belt haha hope I helped you out with something!

Pretty sure it’s common on all engines...? My old ass XC70 with its turbo 6 has a timing belt I know for a fact because I replaced it half a dozen times, now that it has legit over half a million miles.
