The Elite Four's weird choices always confused me, too... until a few months ago, when I read the reason for it. Apparently, the gimmick for the Gen 1 Elite Four - at least originally - was that they don't specialize in just one type like the Gym Leaders do. Instead, they specialize in *2.* Lorelei is a Water/Ice trainer, which is why she has a Slowbro. Bruno is a Fighting/Rock trainer, hence the 2 Onix. Agatha, as you posited, is indeed a Ghost/Poison trainer, which is why Golbat and Arbok are on her team. Lastly, Lance is a Dragon/Flying trainer. That's why he has a Gyarados and an Aerodactyl. To a lesser extent, the secondary types were chosen to specifically complement the primary ones. Agatha has a spooky bat and a big snake with a scary monster face that can literally Paralyze its opponents with fear to support her Ghosts, and Lance has a Chinese dragon and a prehistoric wyvern in addition to his Dragon types. Aesthetically, they make sense.

@@pokeymaster9415 I guess they deemed it too complex, or maybe the guy that came up with the idea only worked on the first games. This is something they axed before the game launched, like how they decided against making Bird a type and replaced it with Flying. Ostriches, emus, rheas, kiwis, moas, and elephant birds for the design 100%. Dodrio also sorta looks like a cassowary with the crest things. On TIL, dragon has always been there, even back in gen 1. What I always thought was that it was introduced in gen 3 and that the Eons were the firsts to get that type, and that beforehand, Dragonite was only a normal/flying type which was called dragon because it looked like one, is rare (at that time), and was strong. Same with Kindra but with pure water type instead. In my defense, I properly started with Diamond and only got to go through Kanto and Johto in Soulsilver.

In this Version you actually don't give them Tea, instead you give any one of the three Vendor Machine Drinks. Atleast sharing like, a Bottle of Water is sliiiiiiightly more believable. They changed it in the GBA Versions because you still have to buy those Drinks, so it was possible (if extremely unlikely to do unintentionally) to get soft-locked if you ran out of Money.

About the Gyarados not being a dragon type. it was originally going to be a Water Dragon but in generation 1, it technically would have had no weaknesses because Dragon Rage only does 40HP Damage. it was seen as "broken" by the developers and they decided to change it to a flying type instead.

12:52 Well, TMs are pretty rare considering that you usually only get one of them per game(even moreso in Gen 5 since they're reusable so there's even less of a reason for there to be multiple TMs). Sure, the TM the Grunt stole can just be bought at the Celadon Department Store, but the Grunt likely didn't know that it was Dig to start with, and since Team Rocket is about stealing rare Pokemon likely to sell them, stealing a TM is just more free money for them.

5:39: I recommend playing Legends: Arceus (Oh wait, he already has). 16:43: Actually, Blue's Raticate never died. Mainly due to the Raticate that he uses isn't the same entity as his Rattata, mainly due to its level. The level of Blue's Raticate is under the level that a Rattata evolves, thus meaning that Blue's Rattata never evolved into that Raticate, but rather, he caught the Raticate in the wild. 29:19: Also, there's something else that's wrong about his Dragonite. DRAGONITE CAN'T EVEN LEARN BARRIER IN GEN 1!!!! 31:05: Ever heard of Pokémon Sun And Moon?
@enzolos.2 жыл бұрын
that point about raticate is irrelevant due to the fact that several instances throughout the entire SERIES pokemon have evolved when they shouldnt have, pokemon doesnt follow consistency, they will evolve pokemon randomly to give a challenge. for example in gold silver and crystal lance has a level 47 dragonite when dragonair evolves at lv 55. its something the series does in order to give more of a challenge, it doesnt follow consistency
@ttwilight_dragon2 жыл бұрын
@@enzolos. The fact that it doesn't follow consistency is just a recurrent flaw. They being evolved means that they were already the next evolution, they just caught them already evolved, what is not explained why is possible in anime, but can be accepted, instead of thinking they evolved their pokemon before the right level, what can't be explained.
@Krendall22 жыл бұрын
23:58 To be fair, they fixed this in Yellow (still considered a Gen 1 game) and every game after it. 29:25 Uh, ALL Ice-type moves use Special. In Gens 1-3, whether a move used Attack or Special was based on the move's type, not what kind of move it was. In other words, a move like Fire Punch used Special, while Hyper Beam used Attack. Gen 4 is where it changed and made certain Pokemon much more useful because of it. 29:46 This was a very common problem in Gen 1, if you look into it. Many Pokemon didn't naturally learn moves of their type. The Voltorb line didn't learn Electric moves, the Rhyhorn line didn't learn Rock or Ground moves, and so on. 31:24 Really? I just looked up his lineups for this version. He has nothing to counter Lance's team other than one Water-type move for Aerodactyl.

5:57 Actually that's a common misconception in the Pokémon games. Ash is "ten" years old, but canonically in the games you're older than that. In Gen I Red is canonically 11 years old (according to the Bulbapedia) but I see where the confusion comes from. TL;DR The anime is not connected with the games and information from it should not be justified for lore in the games.

for me, gen 5 design complaints fall flat because the argument defaults to two evolutionary lines, in a game with a huge amount of newcomers. the argument is supposed to be "gen 5 pokemon suck because of designs like these", but it ends up more like "gen 5 pokemon are overall solid, with a few exceptions". if they really wanted to make a point, they could cite more than two pokemon when over a hundred were introduced

If I'm correct, he would need to catch them in order to register them in the Dex as seeing the Pokémon just marks it as seen, and the areas one can find them in, but not their pokedex entries. For that, you'll need to catch them. But how? If they're Bills Pokémon, Then Blue couldn't catch them unless bill releases them, Blue finds the exact species that bill has, or has already encountered them
@trickyplays5528 Жыл бұрын
Well since in the anime you can scan Pokémon and get data which I now isn't a strong argument since you get all the details of the Pokémon without catching it by scanning it which is bullshit btw. Then again Pokémon isn't consistent. It can also be a data transfer thing via PC or USB idfk
