here the ultimate evidance that Courtney was supposed to be in the show that I never saw people talk about: page 5. the 5ht page from Alison's death report countains information about possible killer due traces. Garret wanted the page to remove his (and Jenna) connection to Alison. eventualy he was arrested: his traces maches to the ones that were found on the victim, but Garret never met Bethany. so how his traces were on the body? simple: in the original lore the victim was Courtney. Garret traces were on her body when he met "Alison" in this night. Garret and Jenna meeting is the only thing from that night that Alison never talked about. so it means the dead girl was supposed to be Courtney. and in the first four season that are many, but so many clues about her existnce

I feel like this comment is 110% accurate. Esp if you’re a teen girl who falls prey to an abuser. Literally this is what became of me at around the same age. You utterly lose yourself & the person becomes so central. You’re like a fly in the trap. Now if they had actually made Ezra the final A it would have tied it all up (from the overt romanticizing of their hugely problematic relationship-we just see it all from Aria’s perspective- to the holes in Aria’s personality...it would have tied it all up so perfectly. What a disappointment..

Im rewatching the show right now and it's around the time he comes back to rosewood to teach while Aria is still a student and some student made a comment to Aria about her and Ezra's relationship and i'm just wondering how or why they even let him come back when she's still a student. It's also weird that he was with Ali for a small time and KNEW who Aria was before he met her...he just...gives me the skeevies now everytime I see him.

I don't care what anyone says, Ezra was a predator. He first had a relationship with Alison before she disappeared. Alison disappeared when she was fifteen. Ezra was an adult when he got involved with a fifteen-year-old. Some may argue that Ezra was not at fault because Allison never told him that she was a minor, but when she disappeared, he started investigating her life, stalked her friends, and then intentionally approached Aria, who again, was a minor. He intentionally started working at Aria's school as her teacher to stalk her and extract information for his book. He intentionally started a relationship with a sixteen-year-old girl. That is creepy, disgusting, and predatorial. It is so terrible that the writers thought that a relationship between a teacher and a young girl was appropriate to romanticize to a target audience of mainly teenage girls.

Agreed! Ezra 100% knew Aria was a minor, and I seem to remember someone finding a line from Lolita in his book about Allison when the camera panned over it. Kinda seems like he's a creeper to me! It's weird though bc the relationship with Aria/Ezra was already so bad before they went and added in that creepy book situation that made everything he did like 1,000x more deliberate and creepy.

I feel this didn't hard enough on HOW INAPPROPRIATE almost every male figure is in this show. It wasn't just that Melissa's fiancé kissed Spencer. It was also that he is AT LEAST 6 years older than her. Then the show handled that situation by having her family blame SPENCER. Not Wren. He is the adult and they ostracized Spencer for it. Then when they found out Spencer and Ian had a thing...who again is about 6 years older than Spencer, no one was appalled by that. But as the story continues, we find out he's hooking up with Ali as well. Which Melissa knew, and was mad at Alison. Again, these are adults preying on children and every time the children seem to be the ones who to blame. Not to mention, Jason, Garrett, and Ian were also filming girls getting dressed. Then you have Garrett who is cop sleeping with Jenna, another high school kid. Wilden who was sleeping with Alison, when she was 14-15 years old. I also think Wilden is older than Melissa, Ian, Jason, and Garrett because he becomes a detective by the time the show has started whereas Garrett is still a uniform cop. Of course Zach hitting on Hanna, which Aria immediately doesn't believe her. Then you have Byron who was sleeping with an adult, but it was his student. So, at least it's age appropriate...but still an abuse of power. Obviously, Toby and Jenna. Jenna was raping Toby via coercion and no one seemed to say that. They never call these things out for what they are RAPE. I know in Pennsylvania the age of consent is 16. But, a lot of these happened BEFORE THEN. The show completely disregards all the inappropriate behavior over and over again. Closest thing comes to Byron and Ella icing out and forcing Aria and Ezra to break up.

Also... Ezra! This is the thing I struggle most with, especially rewatching the show now that I am older. I mean... most people watching (when it was released) were probably teenage (underage) girls, and this really did seem totally okay to me then! Which is mostly because it was portrayed as something good - and eg the mother not understanding and being really disappointed in Ezra was shown as something bad/ she doesnt understand. I feel like Byron and his affair was handled okay-ish. But with the rest, I completely agree.

I agree, she didn't go hard enough on that. Technically Ian took those videos, and Jenna wasn't on the NAT club, but just wanted the videos when she found out about them because they incriminated her, which makes her thing with Garret worse because he knew about the videos and could have been using them against her. She may be painted as a rapist in this iteration (it was the other way around with Toby raping Jenna in the books, and they only changed it because they basically wanted him to get with Spencer) but still shouldn't be taken advantage of by an older man. As for Ian, he was Melissa's age and she only graduated in 2009, making her about 2 or 3 years older than Spencer, who despite spending five seasons in high school technically only graduated in like 2012-3. I hated how Alison came back and started fibbing about everything including the guys she was with, claiming she never slept with Ian despite staying in his room at that golf resort with the camera pointed at the bed they slept in, and Alison racing to delete the footage on that camera as soon as Melissa started banging on the door... All so she could fake innocence about his murder while simultaneously owning up to killing him, but claiming he was alive when she left the room, making that shit a riddle. Of course he was, he was still falling when she left! He didn't die before he hit the ropes, so that makes Alison innocent now? Even though we saw he was dead and gone when the liars walked past him that night, and despite the barn he was found in being staged to look like a suicide, the forensic analysis proved that he had died way before being shot at the barn. But nah, despite overwhelming evidence we witnessed with our own eyes we are suPpOSed To BeLieVe AliSOonn!

Alison was so cool in the early seasons like this mythical creature that u can’t get to closed to, but when they bring her back she really has no consequence from her past actions like why was her character like that in the first place, why were adults so wary of her she just seemed untouchable but when she is back she becomes soooo needy and more of a hassle to have. I know she was 14/13 at the time of her disappearance but she was another level of evil. I miss that love/hate relationship people had with that character or really any connection to one of the characters in general by the end of the show :(

I remember reading that they had planned big A to be Aria, but were so pissed about all the fan theories guessing correctly that they changed it. That is such a shitty reason to derail your whole show. There were so many interesting and creepy story lines that led nowhere on the overall plot. Anyway, still a guilty pleasure of mine. I honestly think that if they had made the whole last season about the evil twin and showing her meddling and life, it would have had a greater impact and maybe worked out OK. But introducing her in the last half of the last episode was just such a fail.

It wasn’t like with Allison where they butchered her so bad that by like end of s5 we knew she was never gonna be cool again 😂. “School Marm” Allison was there to stay. It really comes down to the fact that they completely de-sexualized Allison once the actress gained weight (which is especially creepy when you remember that when she was thin she was under aged). It was like she went from being this confident cool sassy girl to- even if she WAS nicer and reformed- why would she suddenly be a person who wears only cardigans and likes to stay home and bake pies? You know? They just destroyed her long long long before the travesty of the last season 😂.

the redemption arc was hardly redemption, alison was still bad and they just turned her into a completely new dish rag of a character. it felt like there were two separate alisons- pre disappearance and post, neither were redeemed. they took away everything we both loved and hated about alison, completing lost her character and it was really sad to me. i loved alison in a way

Imagine if the writers had figured out that one of the liars would be A before season one, so the whole time they’re having secret shoots with the liar where she goes and records stuff such as her planning an attack on her and her friends while they’re in the woods or something and so then 8 or however many seasons later there’s the reveal and they can show this footage of the liar doing the plotting and then record all the liars actresses finding out who A is after 8 seasons and finding out that the one Liar had known who A was for 8 years cuz she’d been playing A for 8 years. A real life PLL

YES. YES. THIS IS MY PROBLEM WITH THIS SHOW. I am a newcomer, a man at that, a guy who needs action from his antagonists. A was hard to like after Mona became revealed, I loved her reveal and Toby's? His was just as good, but here's the thing. I disliked Toby being A because it was revealed in the middle of the season which made it clear he was just a pawn, and the entire time I was just waiting for it to be revealed "Oh no there's ANOTHER A" and it wasn't shocking. A was so passive and did NOTHING notable for me to say except run over Hannah. A getting violent and trying to murder the Liars was far better UNFORTUNATELY I also believed it would make A just some rip-off of Ghostface. I REALLY REALLY LOVED Hearing how A got more violent in the later seasons, because that is what I was expecting, A to TRULY rip into their lives and let them know this isn't a game, you're not going to find about me and live. Your life is on the line when you're my target, your innocence, your freedom, that's what I wanted. I swear, like most of the showtime I watched season 1 - 4 was them trying to figure out who A is or find out About Ally or the other insignificant storylines, with small hints one after another about A or Ally and them A sends them the occasional scary text and then there's a cliffhanger and then boom end of episode. This is why I skimmed through the latter half of season 4 and then gave up on it and found the rest out via KZbin. It left me so impatient. Mona may have not done much but her reveal more than made up for it, it was brilliant and the way they tipped off her being A because of her choice of gum was even more brilliant. I mean the way she lost was a huge letdown because somehow teenage girls are overpowering literally anyone even if they're grown men. But yeah them beating Mona made sense since she's petite and all but her A storyline fell off short because of that, I feel like she AND Spencer Both should've taken that fall to make it better. Ultimately, this show has too little Action.

They didn’t really go in depth with Hanna’s eating disorder or Spencer’s addiction, they just used it for the plot of a couple of episodes and then forgot about it which was really unrealistic. It was like they just kept adding onto things about each character for the sake of it and throwing it away later, when in real life it would really affect them. I feel like if Hanna’s eating disorder and Spencer addiction could have been used throughout the whole show it would have made the characters more relatable idk

I absolutely hated how in the end all of the liars were forced to be either married or pregnant or planning to adopt kids. They were still in their early 20s. Why make it a necessity to have a "married, with kids" ending for each of them as if it's the only way to be happy? What about their careers, dreams, and other interests beyond making a family?

Yes. I never understood why A put Ali in jail if Ali was the one "Charles" really wanted. I think it would have been cool if the A team needed Ali in jail because that's where they could do the twin switch. When Ali was in jail, A had no problem getting to her. So the plan could have been to get the real Ali locked away in solitary confinement to rot and be forgotten. This would help me understand why the police were tipped off that Mona was alive. Mona being alive led to Ali being let out of jail but if was easy for A to get in and out of the prison to torment Ali then why not keep her in there? But if freeing Alison by showing Mona alive in the dollhouse meant freeing evil twin Ali well now that's a good plan. Evil twin Ali is free while Allison rots in jail and the liars are locked up in the dollhouse. And then at some point real Ali could be brought to the dollhouse too in secret because, again, getting in and out of the prison is no problem for the A team.

I also found it strange how Spencer, whom we know takes academics seriously and wasn’t satisfied with Toby being a small town cop, suddenly was just okay with being with Caleb who didn’t even have a degree. OP is reading my mind. I had to double check the user name to make sure it wasn't me that wrote this XD Ali being A wouldn't be boring. Just because something is predictable doesn't mean it's a bad call. And if they had done the work it would have been a satisfying end regardless. Lbr this show was seven seasons long, and every character was speculated to be A at some point. There is no character that would have been "shocking". Even the evil twin thing was theorised. Doesn't matter how far fetched, every guess possible had already been made. Trying to outsmart the audience by pulling a character out of thin air in the finale while leading everyone to think it's a character we know, isn't surprising or satisfying, it's dodgy and shitty. It's making fun of the audience and playing a cruel prank on the viewers just to make themselves seem smarter and more capable than they are.

Wren being A is just PERFECT. Like guys, he has been in the show since the very first episode. He is a fucking doctor(meaning that he could plant fake evidence easily cuz the show has many things to do with medical records and etc) and has connections in Radley(as we saw he was there when Mona was in there). He has a thing with Melissa and he could have been manipulating her to do stuff. Also he is obviously jealous of Toby so it makes sense to lets say send Yvonne as his spy, who is in Spoby's way, instead of her just being there and then dying without any reason. I hated the fact that the writers have decided to put a really nice character in Spoby's way. Because I felt really bad for hating her(cuz Spoby is like my OTP). And when they finally decided to get her out of the picture, they kill her off. Why? It caused a lot of drama for Toby and a crack between him and Spencer, because he can't just hop up in her bed after his love died. The whole Alex thing just makes it worse. It would have been great for Yvonne to be from the A team and be a bitch. Like, seriously, you could make everyone else in the other ships way a frickin' hatable dude for no reason but when it comes to something that would make sense both for the story and the relationship, the writers just go out of space and fuck it up. Why, for God's sake With the way it all ended, it would have been better if the whole finale was at the end of s6 A. And if it was all about the infamous big cute fanserving Ezria wedding, they could have just added something cliche but beautiful like some scenes from 7 years after, showing all of our favorites happy together with children or engaged or married or whatever.🥲

Emily and Alison got divorced and Emily is raising the babies alone while Alison lives on the other side of the country with the Perfectionists. Alex and Mary escaped from Mona's French dollhouse and are on the lam. And last but not least, you didn't miss anything skipping the spinoff, it was not good. That's saying a lot with what a huge mess the original PLL turned into.

Sadly, as much as I love Spoby, it seemed like the writers weren’t interested in putting them back together until the last episode. You can see this in the writing of their breakup and the fact that the writers barely focused on Spoby vs Spaleb as much as Haleb vs Spaleb. It’s like the writers nearly forgot about Toby in that messy situation. It kind of felt like their story was “over” that the writers didn’t feel the need to let Toby be in the love triangle whereas Hanna and Caleb’s story was written with unfinished business. Plus, they had Toby actually marry and chose Yvonne over Spencer until she died, so it made Spencer seem like a second choice 😞. The writing was horrible in the last two seasons with forced breakups to force pointless relationships (Spaleb) to have cheap drama instead of just leaving the ships alone and focusing on the mystery

The worst thing PLL has done was get impressionable teenagers to root for a relationship between an underage student and her teacher. It was so inappropriate. Equally as bad was the fact that a grown woman was championing this relationship. I. Marlene King was the person in charge of the tv series, and she's there championing such an inappropriate relationship. She's ruining other characters to keep this relationship going. Noel Kahn had a lot of potential, until Marlene decided to sacrifice his character to keep Aria and Ezra together. It was not ok at all. I don't understand how more people weren't calling this out. Paige was a great character and the best main romantic interest of any liar and you are wrong. She was the most loyal partner and despite a few flaws and mistakes, she was honestly a genuinely good person who really made some of the hardest and most mature and selfless decisions in the show. I don't get the hate. She never tried to "drown" Emily as you guys claim. She tried to scare her off and yeah it wasn't her best moment but it doesn't compare to some of the shit the guys have put the other liars through. Your darling Caleb completely took advantage of Hanna, and even went as far as to sleep with her in season one whilst working for Jenna, spying on her. Ezra is Ezra and Toby sold out Spencer and worked for the A team in exchange for info on his dead mommy. You are so hard on Paige for one mistake that ultimately didn't even affect Emily, while the girls were completely screwed over time and time again by worse characters who get excused because you find them attractive.

one of the tells of good writing, imo is when you can rewatch the whole show again and think "holy shit, how did I not notice that" or "I can't believe so and so was going on at this time and we didn't find out until later". with pll, I can't go back to season 1 and truly believe that Spencer was written to have never been Veronica's daughter, or even that Ezra knew Alison before she disappeared (wtf). the first and second halves feel like two completely separate shows and barely anything from the first couple of seasons seemed to matter once alison was suddenly alive. they gave us half assed explanations to SEASON long mysteries. it was hard to trust Marlenes story telling after that.

Season 3 was OK. The Cece reveal in season 6 was trash, the Toby stuff was trash and the Ezra stuff was trash. And it stretched my disbelief that the girls didn't involve adults sooner. I find it really sad that they never talked about this thing with Jenna and Toby more because it was so dark and it could have given a great message about how boys can be victims of abuse too. When I was first watching it I fully thought that that was where they were going and I would have really respected them for talking about this topic. It also made Toby kind of an interesting character because at first you thought he was that bad guy but then there were some things that contradicted that and finally you found out that he was a victim too. But their relationship just sort of stopped being a problem. There were these very icky scenes when one of the liars was in Toby's home and you could see his and Jenna's toxic relationship. But they never resolved it. He lived in a house with her for so long after that and she just sort of stopped abusing him. They could have made it a bigger storyline. The liars could have helped him get out of that toxic situation. I can not stress enough how good of a message they could have sent. But they just dropped it like so many other good storylines

Using hologram technology (something I'm not sure is even possible to that degree yet) was way overdramatic. It took us out of the what the show has been so far. It would've made more sense to just make it a regular, but expensive office with a tv monitor on the wall and an electric pin pad lock on the door.

One thing that always stuck out to me is how often the liars would accuse and try to set up Melissa. However when it comes to Hannah’s mum, Mike or Ezra. Everyone protects them. Hanna literally wanted to hand in Spencer’s pregnant sister it then she says “I don’t care what my mom did I’m going to help her”, during her arrest when it was still unclear whether she did it. What happens when it’s Spencer’s family. When Mike looked like A material, Aria refused to accuse him but would be the first to accuse and trap Melissa. Spencer was stuck defending Melissa and Jason but when it came to everyone’s else’s families it was fine.

Aria…the most infuriating character on the show. Sells out her family for Ezra. Blamed her parents when they were rightfully upset about her and Ezra. Can’t stay single to save her life, and when she’s in a relationship, she cheats on every single one of them. She doesn’t care about her friends. When everyone was looking for Spencer, she went round to Ezras, even calling Spencer ‘the weakest link’ when she was having a mental breakdown. She killed a person and got away with it. She’s extremely selfish, she does everything for herself, like joining the A-team. She slut shamed Hanna for no reason, it’s funny Mona called her ‘the compassionate one’ I was yet to see one ounce of compassion from her. Don’t even get me started on her acting…In short, I hate Aria with a passion.

My favourite relationship in the show by far is the friendship between Toby and Caleb! In contrast to the liars, they have actual things to relate to each other; both their girlfriends are being harrassed and scared, they both feel helpless and want to change it, they're both loyal and loving people. The reveal that they're both working to uncovering A themselves, with them sipping coffee and staring at that whiteboard full of notes and all, I LOVED THAT! I hate that we didn't get more scenes like that. Once Ezra joined the two it kind of turned weird and less badass for me? Probably because he's, well, creepy (It kinda gave me the same feeling as that Christmas episode where the liars' partners surprise them in Christmas-underwear and all I could see was Ezra, half naked, standing between people that were recently his students) and the writers gave him this omnipotence about everything relating to the liars very suddenly for the plotline with his book? Like he used to seem genuinely clueless as hell, and suddenly he turns into this master brain who knows how and where to get information from? He felt like a very disruptive force in the friendship between Toby and Caleb in those scenes. (Also, can we talk about how Ezra was constantly hanging around investigations and stuff involving the police when something had happened to Aria and nobody questioned it then, but OH NO, if they were seen in the comfort of his home, THAT'S when people raise their brows?)

Something about Paige confused me a lot because she’s shown to have a dark side, seen when she tries to drown Emily and in a flashback Alison has a back injury and she says “pig skin” (Paige) kicked her and Spencer even says she’s a bully and there’s a penalty named after her. So did Alison bully her because the show for the most part makes there relationship seem more like a rivalry, but they muddy it when Paige starts talking about how it lead to self harm this is a huge problem because it’s cheap and is never brought up again until season 5 when Allison’s return makes her physically ill but beyond that it makes Alison seem even worse then she actually is and makes her redemption even harder to believe I know Alison’s treatment of Mona lead to mental disorder but there’s never any hint that Mona was a bad person before Alison, so it could be explained with she brings the worst out of people which is just an extension of her mean girl persona. The writer proved they never intended for Alison to come back or have a redemption arc because at the time we find out about Paige’s problem with her it’s season 3 and we already know she’s a bad person but this should make her unforgivable at least to Emily but it doesn’t the writers, really just wanted to have their cake and eat it.

Paige was on the A team she hated Alison because she tortured her secrets of her sexuality and feelings for Emily. Plus Paige recognized Alison grip on Emily which made her a little resentful. Once Paige acknowledged all her issues and gave Emily an ultimatum she left Rosewood and was one of the more mature characters in my opinion. She always mostly knew what she wanted .

​@@EffyLand high school makes a lot more sense for the plot. i wouldn't buy those girls all ending up in the same college post-high school, or even the same city. plus its a show about being stalked & trapped with the people who wanna harm you, college is not conducive to feeling stuck and trapped, college = freedom. you can literally just never go to class, & drop out or transfer somewhere else if you want. if they were adults they could move anywhere, & change their phone numbers without having to explain why to their parents. they couldn't be involuntarily committed to a psych hospital or forced into therapy, & the parents couldn't limit what meds they're given or who they date, call, or hang out with. the girls could even stop leaving their houses altogether once they get paranoid, cuz there wouldn't be anyone asking questions. idk what they'd replace all the formal school dances & prom storylines with, & it would make less sense that not all of them have their own cars. in the actual show they incorporate the school a lot, the school play, the lock-in/sleepover thing, needing to study & raise their grades, needing a tutor, the debate club, yearbooks, even the content of their english assignments are tied into the plot. the new stepsibling plot & the stories involving their parents' love lives would make less sense & have much less impact.

I saw the twin twist coming when they showed random scenes of Spencer doing things like looking at a family photo album happily when she had been having family issues. And when she was seen at the airport with Wren, the way she behaved was off. The moment I saw those things I thought it was strange, and once I realised I just watched the rest of the episodes on auto pilot to see if I was right.

I really think Marlene pushed HARD for Emison because that’s what the fans wanted. Nothing wrong with that, especially when that’s what a lot of fans want. However... The reasons why the show went downhill was the fact they didn’t follow the books after season 3-4. They didn’t take it verbatim, but the show did follow it closely. But then (since they were getting towards the end of the original books (the show made the book series longer)) they change up the storyline (despite the show set up things that would match the book) the show changed A (which is why the A “reveal” was horrible). Honestly they should have followed the books. Would have been better and the show wouldn’t be so.....bad. I think it inspired Riverdale in making bad writing. Sad really.

Spencer and Caleb's relationship was so.... Trash I mean it was so random and then they are like over eachother in the space of 1 episode. Also I knew the moment Ezra's lil bro picked up Aria from that party that they would kiss, because come on, these girls are basically not very commited to their relationships. I was kind of relieved that aria didn't tell ezra about the kiss because it would cause so much annoying drama since everyone knows they are going to get back together, but I expected a to mention it otherwise what was the point.

This show had so much promise and I was hooked. I will forever be utterly disappointed with it. I honestly felt manipulated watching the later seasons. Like they we’re trying so hard to get me to feel for these people that did so much wrong… It just felt like a really bad relationship, and everyone around you is telling you you’re the problem for not looking past all of the evil. When PLL came out I was around the same age, maybe a year older than the characters. I specifically remember my friends reading the books and watching the show. I honestly wasn’t too interested in it back then but ten years later I find all the drama fascinating. Even back then Ezra and Aria made me feel so uncomfortable. A year after I graduated high school it came out that a similar situation had happened at my school. I think the aftermath of Cece upon Alison did make for a good new plot in the last few seasons... but wouldn't it have been more interesting if they chose to just make Jason -A over Cece? Already an established character on the show and the impact on Ali and Spencer both would've been even richer than Cece? His history with the NAT club, brief relationships with Aria, Melissa and Hanna's mom, all of which never actually amounted to anything and he never seemed to care... how much he hated Ali in the earlier seasons, his family relationship with the Hastings... plus it wouldn't have been yet ANOTHER Radley arc that was just too unrealistic with the amount of main characters who spent time there... there were so many creepy plots Jason was involved with, particularly in the earlier seasons, and then he seems to become so much MORE hostile and secretive and a loner, and nobody knew what he was actually doing with his time from like season 2 onwards, he could easily have been -A!

In terms of -A's money, he had the same access as Cece did... and Jason at least had 1-1 scenes with every one of the liars in the show, Cece was never that involved with them individually, it would've been much creepier. He had access to everything in Ali's house. He moved back to the house the day Ali's "body" was found, which sparked the entire plot of the show. There were so many situations for motive. -A's unexplained relationship with Jenna: Jenna and Garrett were trying to frame Jason with the "i know what you did" note. Motive. The impact of the Hastings-DiLaurentis family bullshit on Jason, motive. He was involved in NAT and literally filming children and Alison had footage and proof of the kind of person he was. Motive. It could've been so much darker and more twisted this way, without needing to go back to Radley and creating a new plot with Cece's background. They could've really made a lot out of Jason, it feels like he was right there as an option 🤷‍♀️
