The surfing and wave animation in surfs up is so incredibly good looking which combined with the documentary style and humor makes this movie stand out among “kids movies.” The addition of the actual surfers really shows how much they cared about showing surfing as awesome sport

This is one of the most unique and original movie I've seen. The voice actors were amazing, the comedic bits scattered throughout were golden, just everything about it was needed for character growth and for the story to go on. Should have removed a sin for the "over and over again" fall scene. The movie has been building up to this moment, we get then Cody's massive overconfidence, and then we get a truly fantastic scream from Shia LaBeouf. Seriously, one of the funniest things in any animated movie.

The overall story with the characters was really good as well! It's just... It really feels rushed. Many scenes lack stability, character reactions and such. Like it feels complete as a whole, while lacking a lot in-between. The plot, the theme and jokes in many parts are Shrek level stuff! But well..., what came out - is what it is. Rewatching as an adult actually brought me awesome ideas of the film: 1. Don't be afraid to follow your dream 2. Do everything it takes to fight for it! 3. Enjoy every second, use every situation for your advantage. 4. And of course, value all the friends you make along the way😉 And yeah, somehow chicken Joe is the one who got it all😂

@@chadajacobs a plane is a tool used to flatten a wooden surface. The flat metal plate is as much a part of it as the cutting edge. I’d argue, given that he’s trying to actually cut the surfboard shape out of the wood he’s using the shell more like a chisel and is therefore carving However I will concede that there is that plane that’s used to chamfer and round off pieces that looks kind of like motorbike handles (can’t remember what it’s called) and I suppose you could use that to make a surfboard. But the rate of stock-removal you’d get from that compared to what you’d get from a chisel leads me to uphold my stance on that being carving rather than planing

You forgot the sin that this movie is just pixar's 2004 movie "Cars" but with penguin. An ahole protagonist is somehow lost meets with a mentor that use to be a champ at the very sport he is going to compete but for some reason gave up that sport and hid away. And from there the protagonist learns lessons he uses in the end and forgoes his victory to prove how he has changed

Cars came out in 2006 so I’m sure the development of both of these movies were at the same time

Surfs Up is subtly parodying sport documentaries (or stories like Cars) and surfing movies like north shore, endless summer etc. Surfs Up also focuses on the relationship between Z and Cody more than Cars does for McQueen and his mentor. Z is like a father figure for Cody, after his dad got eaten by that orca. Surfs Up was also innovative in a few other ways. Cars is a good movie tho.

This to me is one of the most forgettable and rememberable animated movies ever... I remember watching this movie on repeat as a kid and now to this day I have not even watched a clip of it since then. Definitely one of the more weirder animated movies that we've ever had. But I love it!😂

Same actually😂 with the exception of last summer when I watched it for nostalgic reasons, but that was it

4:17 remove one sin bc it is not a double standard. As one of two mammals in the movie (the other being the whale used for transport), the otter is the only character with permenantly external genitalia. Penguin genitalia, both male and female, is permanently set inside of their cloacas Edit: as for topless female penguins, again they are not mammals and therefore have no mammaries (aka titties)

I've never seen this movie in english and I'm so curious to watch this video. In spanish, the main penguin is from "Frío de Janeiro" as in Río de Janeiro, Brasil, except Frío means cold
