I’m talking about Shane calling them “docuseries” when in truth he struggles to meet his own deadlines and stick to his own trailers and it IS a lot of editing for him to handle, only to throw a vlog together, a vlog that is clearly showing he’s not caring about the story and making it flow. He purposely bites off more than he can chew. But he shouldn’t be pretending they’re more than what they are so he can have a reason not to upload as often.

It’s literally so crazy to me how unprofessional he handled this series. Like he had a full year to work on it and made so many promises but then left all the editing until the last minute, which caused the messy uploading schedule and getting influenced by everyone’s opinions. If he had made a clear plan, stuck to it, and edited everything way before the series premiere it would’ve been SO much better. I just don’t trust his docu’s at all because his facts and opinions all get so influenced and twisted. It discredits him as a creative and filmmaker. This entire “docu series” was just a vlog of the palette creation process, nothing more. In all honesty I really miss the era of his spooky videos with Garrett and Drew. They all seemed to have so much fun together and it was okay if there were issues with upload schedules and editing. But he goes into these docu series with the same mindset as he did with his previous work and if he really wants to live up to his promises and hype he should be a looot more professional and mature.

Michelle Phan, when trying out Jaclyn Hill’s disastrous makeup, said that it’s best for creators not to overhype up their makeup or their creations, so that the audience knows what to expect. that advice stuck with me for months and through your commentary series i really felt what michelle said. Shane overhyped his series so much that he may even have baited his audience. while there are clearly hard-core stans who turn a blind eye to everything, a huge majority of his viewers were as disappointed as you. i consider myself an outside viewer of all of this, and it’s really weird seeing a creator bait and manipulate his audience and really believes that nobody is going to say anything about it. i’m actually at a loss for words.

He released a trailer because a ton of people on Twitter were pressuring and asking when his series was gonna come out. That led him to releasing a trailer so people had something to look forward too.
@misterwinkybluff5 жыл бұрын
You do realize *_most_* movies, if not all, release trailers before they’re finalized or even edited, right? A lot of that is because of our culture nowadays-wanting to know something, anything while they’re waiting for the big ball to drop. It wasn’t always like that back in the day. But nowadays if the audience doesn’t at least have something to look forward to, everyone is mad. That’s why so many trailers include things that aren’t in the movie. Editing is tedious and film production is unpredictable. Someone may release a trailer to satisfy the thirsty fans then have to edit something out because of legal reasons (just an example).
@thishappenstobehere5 жыл бұрын
@@misterwinkybluff Yeah but most movies stick to the substance presented in the trailer. Not just do something else entirely
@misterwinkybluff5 жыл бұрын
@@thishappenstobehere Oh yeah, most definitely. I’m not defending that part-not really defending Shane & Co. at all, just pointing out that editing typically doesn’t work that way. I’m not commenting on why they changed their content, I’m commenting on the fact that trailers are often released before the final product is fully edited (and it’s usually to satisfy the audience before the video/film is ready).
@tazhienunurbusinezz17035 жыл бұрын
@@thishappenstobehere Here is what happened. He did have most of the videos edited aside from what was currently happening back when he released the trailer, including the dramageddon 2.0 episodes (I believe I remember him mentioning that there were 2 which focused more completely on the beauty community drama). However, when the first 2 episodes of the series dropped, he went looking for feedback & most of the people who responded were really loving the behind the scenes business stuff a lot more than he anticipated so he decided to shift the direction of the series to focus more on that. That meant going back & re-editing the ones he had finished which included a lot more of the intrigue & drama to focus on what people were saying they wanted at the time. Most people were over the "cold tea" & wanted more of a focus on the business side as that was very exciting to them to have the curtain pulled back on the making of makeup & how much they are paying for a name on the package instead of a higher quality of product like one would expect at a Sephora. He did what was asked of him as back then & that was what most were asking him for. After the change, it would seem strange to drop all of it back in & still have a semi-coherent story/timeline. He is definitely a people pleaser. It's written all over him so I believe he was trying to do what he thought most people wanted at the time & the trailer ended up being almost like it was for a series he didn't release. It is what it is.

Honestly, I won’t be watching Shane going forward. I tried to ignore how uncomfortable I was with his friendship with J*, but after this series I’m done. Can we talk about how calculating and manipulative it was to put the clips of the drama/commentator channels in? It's like he's saying "look I'm talking about what you wanted! Keep your eyes open, go rewatch his Jake Paul series and pay attention to Shane’s behavior throughout the series, really pay attention. And all he has to do is make a Snapchat video crying about his anxiety or mental health and how stressed he is with all of the criticism from people he thought were his fans, and people turn around and apologize to him for ever daring to have an opinion. (Anxiety is serious, but overused by celebrities and KZbinrs as an “out” when they are being - rightfully - criticized.)

I made it through twenty minutes of the last episode before being like “alright imma head out.” There was no reason for Shane to put out the video. We know that the palette sold out, that there were issues with the website, and all of the release drama because of social media. So it only added to my frustration as a viewer, when not only was it repetitive but also unnecessary. And it makes me upset that some fans say that “oh it’s not a big deal, shane can do what it wants.” But it’s a big deal when he advertises something and then cuts out 40% of what was on the trailer. Whether he intended to or not, it was clickbait.

I think he fell short in regards to a "behind the scenes of the beauty community". He could have interviewed other CEO's, influencers , and even lab management to talk about the environment they all work in, good and bad. As for the drama, I have a feeling that Shane was stifled legally to what he could say and show. Accusations of sexual assault were bandied about and lawyers aren't going to stand for that to be rehashed. One of the main things that annoyed me throughout the series was the highlight on Shane's insecurities, I felt that was way overplayed. How many times can a person with a career in media say "no don't look at me".
@kimmymacinator5 жыл бұрын
I've been a fan of Shane's but after watching a lot of content, I think Shane is an insecure people pleaser with selfish tendencies. If you notice how he speaks to and treats Ryland in videos, he's always very dismissive/sarcastic/and acts too cool for him and low energy/effort for Ryland's videos like he doesn't respect him, even though Ryland doesn't do the same to him; he's like a puppy with Shane. Shane's not like this with anyone else in his videos, and this is the thing that tips me off to his character. He also uses anxiety as an excuse for being lazy in his relationships. Ryland clearly wants to be more social, go to parties, go to award shows/events, etc, but Shane claims anxiety when it's convenient instead of putting in the effort to make Ryland happy. Yet he can do meet and greets with Jeffree and meetings, etc. Also, I've noticed that Shane is nice, but it's only temporarily when he uses people for his videos and content. There was a lot of attention on Bobby Burns, Molly Burke, Trisha, Eugenia, Garrett, Drew, etc in the moment, but afterwards, Shane's effort towards maintaining the relationships dramatically diminishes. The only people he has frequently in his life is his fiance and his sister, and essentially his live-in employee. During the scene of the mall of America meet and greet, I could almost see the deadness in Shane's eyes. I feel as though he has realized he is not that passionate about the make-up of which he's making millions off his fans at the level he believes he should be. I feel sad for him, to get into something so strongly if it's not truly what makes him happy. But at this point, he was too deep. I don't think he's a bad person. I think he's lost. He struggles between the guilt of his actions and his true desires. And somehow, I feel like I can relate.

I think Shane always seems to fall short with the conclusions in all of his series, if I'm being honest. They're lacklustre therefore always seem to leave a bad impression on me. I can find things within the series that I like and can appreciate how much effort goes into them but the conclusion is so important as its big take away and one of the largest aspects you remember (for me anyways).
@LukeAlexander5 жыл бұрын
Stephanie Levett I couldn’t agree more
@UrbanDecayLova2475 жыл бұрын
Ironically I think one of his best conclusions was the one he did on Eugenia cooney, even though it wasn’t the full story. I also liked the conclusion to the one he did with Kathy griffin, ya know what I think he does better when it’s one video or two, once he starts doing the series that’s when I think he has a hard time focusing on the conclusion.
@stephtevel5 жыл бұрын
@@UrbanDecayLova247 Agreed!! His longer series are always too drawn out so it makes it difficult to create a conclusion that leaves the audience wanting more ya know
@UrbanDecayLova2475 жыл бұрын
Stephanie Levett yea like the conclusion is essentially concluding what you’re trying to say, the whole point. I think with series he tends to get unfocused and that’s why finales to his series just leave me feeling meh compared to when they start. Until he gets better at communicating what he’s trying to say in those, I think he should stick to the one or two format videos like the Kathy griffin one or the conspiracy one with Brittany Louise Taylor.

Yup exactly how I feel about them. I honestly couldn't believe it when so many people were acting like his 'docs' are actually good or insightful or whatever. Honestly for the amount of views he gets and the topics he decides to tackle he should put in more work.

What gets me is that after over a year of investing into this series and being so excited to purchase the palette, I got my hands on it after a month and a half waiting for it to even leave California (with zero help from customer service, I thought it was lost) and when it did arrive, it was broken. The shades I could use burned my eyes or blended out just horribly. When I reached out to the customer service team, they were rude and dismissive of the reactions I had with the "eye safe" shades. I'm still awaiting my $89 CAD to be refunded. There was so much hype for a palette that honestly isn't very good and doesn't have a lot of cohesion with the colour story. Longest infomercial of my life and a big let-down. Won't purchase from jeffree star cosmetics again after all of the bs.
@giuseppelambrinos24584 жыл бұрын
Miss Liane That palette costs 89 big ones? For a bunch of powder? That's unreasonable. My friend told me Star's stuff is really expensive.
@stellarbowden5 жыл бұрын
Personally, my biggest complaint about the series is that there wasn’t much “behind the scenes” stuff. Jeffree kept saying “this has NEVER been talked about before” but they barely even showed anything at all. Nothing worth all this hype it didn’t seem like they were really “exposing” things. Idk maybe that’s just me. also: the scene when Shane & Jeffree were yelling at Shopify & Shane was like “there’s someone in the hospital waiting to buy the palette.” Like, if you feel that bad for the person, send them the palette? I’m sure u have enough money to send one more package to that girl.
@dellojollo2555 жыл бұрын

Shane made the trailer which included all the drama with James Charles, Jeffree Star etc. Which was the main reason the majority of people watched the series. I mean yeah we love the pallette but really, just a little bit of drama at the end, that's it? The series was great but sweetie you dont change the series according to people's reactions. Do the series the way you want to do it. You dont see movie producers changing their movies just coz some people dont like it. There's going to people who dont like things you make. That's life. But don't promise us something that you wont deliver. Love you shane

Same, I always say Shane is super messy when it comes to uploads. It is so annoying that he is so unprofessional when it comes to that. Nobody was rushing him in the beginning, he could've taken a few weeks more to edit and then drop them all still in time for the release. As in, if he were responsible with the editing and didn't leave it all until last minute, he could've released two a week like it was initially planned...

I was really, really disappointed by the last episode as well. I only watched it because I thought Shane was done talking about his palette and would move on to the behind the scenes of the Tati and James drama. The fact that he thought he could get away with five minutes of information we already knew is laughable. Sorry if I sound harsh, but I'm just really upset. I only kept watching because I thought there would be more. I seriously started counting the minutes until the episode was over.

I totally agree with everything you said! I've been getting increasingly disinterested in the content shane is making since the absolute failure of the jake paul series. His ego is too fragile, and he sees any type of criticism as hate. He has to learn that he can't please everyone, and like you said, hold his content to some form of artistic integrity. I'm really looking forward to your vid on Shane as a creator!!! If you havent checked out his subreddit, I would go there cause there is a lot of interesting discussion on his decline as a content creator.

I actually really didn't like the finale or even the series as a whole. All of them were 50 minutes to an hour of advertising, while learning nothing really. Zero drama was added besides ryland and his "reaction" to dramagedon and I couldn't even finish the finale. his series always fall flat and I was honestly really excited for this one but waiting seven months and having the conspiracy series canceled with no explanation after two episodes was really disappointing
