@@JavaProgrammingify Seems like the 'both parties' rhetoric is a coping mechanism for some who are, for whatever reason, incapable of admitting that Republicans are the ones to always draw first blood, and oftentimes the only blood. Maybe it's easier to think that there's equal blame and that nothing could be done to make things even marginally better. Republicans as a party are vicious like a cornered and rabid wolverine and always play all the dirty tricks, and now they're even more obnoxious with Trump calling the shots. Democrats don't compare at all and maybe because of that the right wingers have to constantly make up these fantastical theories of evil democrats that eat babies and worship satan. Because in reality they're either more or less just empty corporate shills, doing more or less the lawful corruption thing that is be the local custom (nothing admirable about that, but not eating babies either).

@A 1995 it depends on the country and voting system, really. The UK has a winner takes all system, which has led to a single party ruling the country with 35% or so of the vote. The Belgian system is horribly divided into a flemish and a french speaking part, which leads to a lack of functional government. The Dutch political system is getting increasingly fractured, and the country is currently being ruled by a 4 party coalition. I don't know much about the French and German systems tbh. Italy is having trouble forming a coalition last time I heard and had to redo an election. This was a year ago, however and given the fact that they made a spending plan that violated EU rules, means that they got a government together. The eastern half is still figuring out how democracy works, with poland and Hungary being under a far-right government. Both governments are eroding democratic values and suppressing press freedom, which would usually lead to EU sanctions, but Poland vetoes sanctions against Hungary and Hungary returns the favour. I don't hear much from the others, which probably means that things are either going relatively well, or are too far away for our media to cover it.

I have taken so many public speaking classes, and there was often someone with a speech impediment in those classes who would use the wrong word, or combine words. I understand his age makes dementia a funny joke, but having a stutter causes public speaking to be a very difficult task. Even people without impediments tumble over words, and sound lost. We have major systemic problems (compared to 1st world nations), half of which seem to go back to the founding of the country... We're one of the few developed nations without universal healthcare or maternity leave policies. Work life balance is out of whack for most and we have turned a virus into political insanity... I have lost faith in the US seeing how things were done (or rather not done) this year; the US isn't a progressive nation and is more about maintaining a 1950's levels of status quo. America needs a *Preferential voting system.* You number your Party/ Candidate when you vote, and the lowest polling candidate gets discarded then their _number #2_ votes are counted. The system continues till someone gets 50+% (usually one of the major Parties, but not always). It's the system used in Australia, and it does tend to keep politics more sane, as even the nutters or the pure ideologues in the major Parties tend to leave and form other Parties. There is the whole game of preference swaps, which can get complicated, but it's still better than the American system [the major headache in Aus Politics is the media dominance by the Murdoch press]. So for example you could have a Green Party and even a few more Parties on the _not Right_ end of the spectrum, and they would not just act as Spoilers that end up _aiding the GOP._ And if the Dems get in with a lot of preferences from Green first choice voters or from the BLM Party or the Moms against gun violence Party, they will realise that constituency has a lot of support and will be more willing to pander to it in policy decisions. And what are the policy points of the Kanye Party anyway? And on the flip side, a series of special interest Far Right Parties would enable the mainstream GOP to rid itself of its extremist wings by putting them in another Party. Compartmentalizing the rabid nutcases into groups that don't hold the reigns of power within the Party. So there could be a NRA Party, a Evangelical Party, the How is that racist? Party, the Libertarians, and the Authoritarians are our father figure that makes us feel safe with a completely made up insulated reality Party.

Only in the case of the USA, it would need 52 preferential voting systems, since the states can choose whatever system they want. The USA needs a new Constitution. The present one doesn't work.
@nyri0

I live in Munich, Germany, and the local elections have a really cool system. On the one hand there is a classic vote for the mayor (popular vote in two turns). On the other hand, there is a vote for the city council, and it's where it gets interesting: you have a list of the names of the candidates from all lists, and you have 80 points that you can give however you want, you can give up to 3 points per candidate. The lists get seats proportionally to how many points they have, and then the seats are attributed in order of the number of points that each candidate got. For a presidential election though, the system that you described seems good, a bit more elaborate than a 2-round popular vote (which would already be a huge step up compared to the electoral college).

The fact that you think we have a working preferential voting in Australia is completely wrong. Murdoch has such a stranglehold over our democracy that most people don’t even know how to use preferential voting so it is still a two party vote. E.g 1-labor 2-Liberals 3-5-other, even though labor and liberal policies are completely different to each other people still put them one after the other. It doesn’t work because people as a collective are to lazy or unmotivated to learn and the gutting of our education means people forget or don’t learn about how it works in the first place.

The "Debate" happened in Greece thousand years ago was about to find out "Truth". When Socrates argues with the many, they are not in the purpose of being a senate of the council or gaining fame, but instead, figuring out the ultimate question of philosophy "Why is this world like this?" The "Debate" in politics today is all about gaining "Power". The two camps are standing in absolute opposite standpoint. There is no room, and no reason for the two parties to compromise, not even a single thing that they can both agree with. With such a stage set like this, debaters will gradually figure out the most efficient way to convince the audience, or to defeat the opponent is insult, and use ideology as a weapon. What is an Ideology? It's a dogmatistic concept, and nobody in the world can PROVE it right or wrong. For instance, a claim "Freedom is the universal value that every government should adopt!" Socrates may argue:"If you absolute support freedom in politics, how about laws that protects your personal assets from being robbed?"

@@mohammedraheem6288 Don't you think Wallace was asking those kind of questions? With Two-party monopoly they know their base population secured, all they have to do is to convert the waivers with dodging questions or distorting facts (that the majority likes to hear the most). Not to mention the politic in the US has been penetrated by capital so deep that their ultimate interest of those parties are protecting or making profits for their companies. For one thing I've observed in the state is that the infrastructures had merely changed since the 90s and all other better developing countries (like China, Korea, even some African countries) are modernizing in a speed you couldn't imagine. But at the same time you will see big companies are profiting in Us like crazy and their offices are getting fancier and fancier. Meanwhile, take a look at the NY subway. And Yes, I do not mean to deny the overall wealth development from the big capitals DO bring benefits to their people. However, it is not the MAJOR motive for them to bring happiness but more like a charity to keep their world running with minimal efforts. Republicans: The Democrats are gonna help the people and do cool stuff!! Democrats: No we’re not! We need a goddamned Peoples Party or a Left Party. I’m tired of a far-right neo-liberal party and a center-right liberal party.

Second thought, you were my 10th favorite subscription until your video about capitalism and the american pandemic response. From there on you climbed on the top. You have a friend in Croatia!

I am not even American but I love this channel. The political scene in America and my country (India) is very similar. I would love it if you discuss political situations around the world.

It's the same no matter where you go. A group of people think they can delegate rights that no individual has and eventually everything turns into chaos.

"Man the first debate sure was bad let's hope the VP debate is better!" VP debate is reasonable without too many interruptions and some actual policy talk for once: "Oh lOoK tHeRe's a fLy oN PeNce!!1" You deserve this, America.

The VP debate offered nothing but talking points. Also it infuriates both had no ambitions. Pence is another evil corporate GOP Robot and Harris offered nothing new and is not willing to take actions on climate change, healthcare, and can’t even get foreign policy right when she cry’s about Russia but not other bad allies like Saudi Arabia. Being calmer offered nothing when it’s the same crap ideas.
