12:52 "Trees communicate with bushes etc..." bit. Fun Fact: Not actually as crazy as it sounds. Groves of trees will actually communicate with each other through what is called a mycorrhizal network. Basically a really cool fungus on their root system that allows them to share nutrients and water and even communicate distress from pest damage. Ex. If a tree on the outside of the grove is experiencing drought conditions but the center of the grove has access to moisture, the trees on the inside of the grove will actually send moisture through the mycorrhizal network to the struggling tree to help it survive. This is usually strongest between plants of the same species, but they have been known to form "alliances" with other species nearby.

Theory: Whatever is "happening", happened before the movie even started, and damaged people's mind ever so slightly. It made people infected by it to act stiff, overreact and have no way to stop their impulses, as well as make them susceptible to paranoia. People started to have intrusive thoughts, those we all have but ignore, but they couldn't ignore them. People in tall places felt the "call of the void" and jumped before realizing what they were doing. The cop probably started thinking "what would it feel to shoot myself" and did it, the other guy picked up the gun and walked before having that same thought, then the lady saw two guys doing it and thought it could also happen to her, so she also shot herself. The survivors are people who, for their own brain configuration, didn't had these specific thoughts, but we see them act on other things we try to do on public or things we might consider idiotic. This would have been a great reveal if at the end, we could see someone outside the affected area acting like an actual people, trying to communicate with someone affected.

Does anyone find that there is something genuinely unsettling about the concept of the film even though so much is ridiculous or just plain bad? So yeah, the acting is beyond awful, the leads are wooden and artificial. The plot dismisses all kinds of logic and reason in ways that spit on their own premise. It just plays out poorly in general. But the whole image of being in a large area that is beset with a plague, in a sense, is frightening. Being in the situation they're in, trapped and forced to try and escape on foot, not knowing what's going on and seeing people suddenly just switch personalities and kill themselves by the thousands, all help cut off and helpless to stop anyone from acting on their impulses... All pretty scary. Maybe they expected that sincerely scary idea to carry the movie and that's why they didn't bother to write it properly or hire someone who could deliver lines without acting like a kid who's trying to pretend he didn't smoke weed at a party.

I actually agree. In fact, personally I almost suspect the movie is borderline genius. Like M Night planned the entire thing to be so weirdly surreal with bad acting, non sense plot, warped people, unnatural reactions to events and other things and combined it with a simple but haunting score made it feel like there was a lot of things really really off with what was happening. Like the phenomenon was affecting the viewers. By not explaining it it helped spread the paranoia aspect (though I never really felt the paranoia noone turned on each other and there was no real hint of a conspiracy) and by throwing out alot of logic it made the whole sequence really unpredictable. Whatever it was trying to do essentially ended up failing as it wasnt all that scary and whilst it was rather funny it didnt really seem to try to be but there was a kind of unique feel to this movie I havent gotten with many others. If I was going to name it I would call it Confusion Horror.
