I bought the DVD and this is the first time I've seen the Moriaty reveal. Not often I find a film that is so bad I can't finish watching it, other than perhaps some of the straight to Prime or Netflix stuff that never got close to a cinema or DVD release.

Very true! There are some others they messed up on as well such as that the submarine can actually go in reverse. I often feel this movie gets a bad wrap. It does not follow the comics mostly because they are too dark for a pg-13 movie but is still a good adventure shoot em' up movie.

One of my favorite things about this is the fight between Mina and Dorian, because of one single effect. During the fight, they both get injured, and when they start healing, it's entirely different from one another - the painting dust crumbles, and the vein-y healing. It's honestly quite nice to see that attention to detail when they could have skimped out on it all and just had both their wounds closing up normally. Anyways: Like most in the comments, I really liked this movie.

Dorian Gray, I appreciate the creative use of him… but, while I realize the commercial reasons, I feel the source’s “Mina as coach experienced in managing ‘unusual’ types” is more interesting than just “Mina as vampire”.

There's nothing wrong with guilty pleasures. I quite enjoyed _Sliding Doors._ an utterly forgettable late-1990s rom-com. I once had an extremely entertaining evening watching _Mom & Dad Save The World_ in the company of seven other people at our campus movie theater. I will always defend _Dude, Where's My Car?_ as the funniest movie I never wanted to see. ...None of these are _good_ movies (with the possible exception, genuinely, of _Dude, Where's My Car?_ ), though. I recognize that, despite the fact that I didn't hate them. (I'm also still, to this day, trying to work out if _The Rock_ is secretly terrible, or if one time in 1996 Michael Bay accidentally made a good movie.)

Didn't the hatter run out the door, screaming about the GIANT MONSTER that was in his shop? Was it Doctor Jekyll who went into the hatters? How could he get the right size for Mr. Hyde? Did Dr. Jekyll think that Mr. Hyde would somehow look "Normal" because of the top hat? Did the hatter keep Mr. Hydes size as a reference, for the inevitability of Hyde losing it while running around at night and destroying things?

Really? I thought this interpretation completely missed the point of her. She was (in the book) the leader of this group of extraordinary gentlemen for her mind and leadership abilities, not some half assed superpowers. When questioned by Nemo as to why she, the only woman and the only one without an exceptional past (that they knew of), was in charge. She flatly told him that she was "accustomed to dealing with powerful men." She never reveled more than that and lead with her wits much like she did in Dracula. Of course these idiots not only fucked up her character, they fucked every single other one. None of them (in the movie) act at a like they should. It's like the idiots who made this movie skimmed through the source comic once and never even thought about the original characters at all. This film is shit and gets the disrespect it deserves.

@@pvshka This movie is not hated because of the plot. It is hated because it failed to deliver on the one thing it promised. To see what happens when you take these singular people and put them together with common cause. Instead they took these characters with over a century of background each and turned them into two dimensional Hollywood troupes. They could have just as easily made these characters act as they should have. How difficult would it have been to introduce Quartermain in an opium den, a wreck of a man and stoned out of his mind. He was so bad that Mina questioned recruiting him at all. How hard would it have been to not give them fucking superpowers?
