Very valid. Many 19th century weapons especially for the first 70 years or so were not extremely reliable or powerful because of the flawed ball and powder method and people were still using those guns will into the 20th century because they were cheaper. Take for example one of the Dalton Brothers. Don't remember which. In the infamous Coffeyville raid where they tried to rob two banks at once the gang failed miserably and were nearly wiped out. This man was shot over 20 times in this incident lived to surrender and serve a 20 year prison sentence and die of old.age well into the 20th century

CogitoErgoCogitoSum the whole reason the sin exists is because of the cliche where the movie says it’s name before credits roll. Cinema Sins expanded it to include every time a movie mentions its name, but that does not nullify its original form. Thus they are still perpetrating the cliche and therefore still get the sin.

Calm yourself, blood dragon. This movie is a remake of the Magnificent 7, directed by John Sturges. That is the "original" I was referring to, and it is an awesome movie. It was directly inspired by 7 Samurai (Not 7 samurais, "Samurai" is both a singular and plural word, like "Jedi".), which I have never seen, but I have heard that it is also an amazing movie, which is why they made the original Magnificent 7 movie in the first place.

6:45 interestingly prostitution was actually propably the second best business in the "wild" west if we take gold trade as number one.. In fact many villages evloved around such businesses. THis might quincidentially be one of the few things that is more or less accurate here (since what is usually presented as "cowboying" did not really happen like that at all. cowboys mostly were herder for cows, its in the name.)

Fun Fact: This movie is a remake of a another movie (that I don't know if is a western or something else) that was a remake of the original movie. The original movie was a Japanese Drama/Action film back in 1954 called "Seven Samurai" Directed and Edited by Akira Kurosawa. The story took place in 1586 during the Sengoku Period of Japanese history. It follows the story of a village of farmers that hire seven ronin (masterless samurai) to combat bandits who will return after the harvest to steal their crops. So this is like the third remake of a very old Japanese Film.

This movie was also paired with the trailer for the sci-fi adventure film Passengers, another movie from Sony Pictures starring Chris Pratt also released that year. I remember the bonus track for Magnificent Seven included the preview for Passengers during the four years I had this movie on DVD as a high school student. So I would say it actually got a little more promotion and recognition from mainstream viewers than we think despite being a remake of classic cowboy movies like the original M7 film and also the Seven Samurai which came before. Another thing to keep in mind that the cast members are famous actors too known my younger fans. Some of the supporting cast members later joined the set for the show Yellowstone. So perhaps the film is remembered by some generations of people, especially fans of the western genre like me. However, few people talk about it today, but it still carried out a legacy nonetheless.

I was always taught that attacking troops need a minimum of a 3-1 attack majority over defending troops, and 5-1 is better. So 50 people is under 3-1 but better than 5-1 if the attacking force numbers 200. And then they add to the number later as well so those odds get even better. Now, it does also depend upon the nature of who you have, people with nowhere else to go defending all they have against people who might not exactly think what they are attacking is worth dying for tends to change the battlefield a little bit. All in all I tend to think I would take my chances with 50 people or more, armed with rifles in a defended position against an incoming attacking force. But all that being said, I did enjoy this film.

Look, I know there are virgins in our own age, so why does this movie seem to think every woman in the old west was a hooker? And why did they decide a mexican town would not be a proper setting for the plot as in the original? And since when did American Indians become the ninjas of the west? And of course, since this is the 21st century, every movie has to have that one "special" woman who is full of potential despite being suppressed in an age of misogyny. Just watch the original folks.

Still, as much as I love it, she shouldn't have been there. Women were terribly oppressed. You know the whole the nine yards; taught, spoken to, treated, and labeled as lesser beings/objects. Being able to get out of your own shell would be extremely difficult. But defying your husband? Stealing the town coin?! Gaining a man's respect? I'm extremely surprised she was left alive and in one piece.
@SergeantSpoon7 жыл бұрын
There is an excellent episode of Adam Ruins Everything about the Wild West that shows why a lot of the stereotypes about women in the west are actually wrong. The Wild West was actually a very progressive as far as women were concerned, as they set up most of the towns, while the men were off prospecting. they were actually able to make a lot of money, and since without them the towns would die off, they were often very well treated, and in some towns even had the right to vote, well before the 19th amendment to the constitution was being considered. In one territory, before it became a state(i don't remember which, but it was one of the W ones i think) they actually refused to become a state if women weren't allowed to retain their right to vote
@SilverMe20047 жыл бұрын
The number of men who left their families in 'civilization' and headed west directly resulted in the number of hookers. and there are women in the towns that aren't hookers maybe they thought that if they set the movie in California, Arizona, New Mexico, texas, or Florida it would trigger too many Republicans. but yes it would give a better reason for why the peasants couldn't shoot. While there are may different tribes/nations/peoples of the, American Indians, where better at hit & run tactic, scouting, and in the old westerns I do remember the thing of "if you see one then you're most likely surrounded" do you know what moccasins where for? Now as for frontier women. they, out of necessity, where harder, tougher than the gentlefolk of the cities. they could fix the barn while shooting ingens and breastfeeding their infant at the same time. in the wild gender rolls aren't quite as important

This movie started off with the ridiculous premise that if you own a gold mine outside of town, you would want to run all the townspeople off. Why? Don't they help provide goods and services you need? Doesn't the general store there help keep you supplied, etc? Hollywood writers should really just crawl back under their rocks into the dark world of their imagination where every business owner in the old West was either evil or an idiot. Geese.... If you didn't end this at at least 200+ sins... THAT is a sin against you. :p
@grayscribe21257 жыл бұрын
Also, he has a gold mine. What does he need the pocket change from the town's folk? What does he want with the town? In comparison to the gold mine the town is worthless. And if a gold mine isn't enough for your lifestyle in your old age, buy ot build a town at a more profitable location. And now I'm glad I haven't seen this movie and got the DVD to the original 'Magnificient Seven' and the 'Seven Samurai' a while ago.
