@@herechickens1809 No, he was. Here's a page from the prison scene in the graphic novel - you can see he's a bit smaller than the prison goons. His strength was never strength - it was skill, some gadgets which Night Owl provided, and, crucially, no inhibitions about the level of injury he will cause to the person he's fighting (and thus no instinct to hold back at all, much like a wild animal). Ultimately, though, he is a deconstruction of the vigilante badass just as the other heroes are deconstructions of other superhero archetypes - you're not supposed to walk away from the graphic novel thinking he is a badass, but rather that he is pitiable and mentally broken.

@@frankkennedy7618 That's a dumb strategy on their end, but also super convenient. Not a bad marketing decision. They can label all valid criticism as real and label all mistakes as "jokes". Here's the problem: When someone has to explain that cinemasins is joking then the joke immediately fails. Having to explain a joke over and over means the joke failed. Good examples of satire and parody media are The Onion and pretty much all Mel Brooks movies. They fit in commentary and criticism with jokes so well that the message isn't lost while remaining hilarious. If Mel Brooks had to come out and explain why his movies are funny, his movies would no longer be funny.

@@M.Babadook They can call it a joke all they want but the real reason they do this shit is really obvious. Audience engagement. Adding sins specifically to piss people off gets more people commenting, liking/disliking and sharing. Then when people complain about said inaccuracies they can go "haha stupid nerd is mad", and they're right. You are a stupid, mad nerd. Another example of this in this video is when he added a sin for the "You're locked in here with me!" line. It's one of the most badass lines in cinema history, we know it, they know it and we know they know it, but they add a sin for it anyway to make nerds mad.

@@BIGD-cc7ru Manupulate matter to destroy everything that can be seen? That's what our jolly green giants did. Seek, and destroy. Manhattan said he could only see what he experienced. He wasn't omnicient. So he couldn't see all the VC to kill them all. Could only kill the ones he saw. But the war of attrition that we fought, and that Manhattan fought didn't win it for us, and I would say that wouldn't have won it for him. That's not the strategy that won it for the VC. It was territorial ocupation that won it for them. Very simple strategy. The US kills some VC, and the VC kill some nearby villiagers. So the villiagers hate, or pretend they hate, the US because the US brings the VC retaliation. Even when many like the US they can't say so. They would be the first ones pointed out by the rest of the villiagers to save their lives. "He likes the US. He said so." So everybody has to say how they hate the US. How would the US know any different? Empathetically the US could know people don't like people who come in and kill, and mutilate them, and their kids. But it was clearly hard for the US to dredge up empathy in those times.

@@hertog3094I don’t know if that’s a failing on Moore’s part, though. I definitely agree that this one of the most faithful adaptations I’ve seen, but if they had included everything from the graphic novel, this could’ve easily been 8 hours of film. You lose a lot of nuance when translating to the screen, but I still think it’s fantastic. The ultimate director’s cut is nearly 4 hours long, and it still isn’t quite enough to cover all of the ground.

He knew that if he exposed what Ozzy did to the world, there was the very real possibility of a full-on nuclear war. Never compromising is his mindset, so he would have exposed the lie. While, at the same time, its his duty to protect people and exposing the secret would do the opposite. Conflicted, he practically begged Manhattan to kill him, to protect the lie he would expose.

+Lucan Monks Indeed, And Sinning Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah" on the grounds that it was the worst version he'd heard was just embarrassing - given the fact that it was clearly Leonard Cohen himself, singing the original version! Many of the supposed "Sins" made me suspect that the reviewer wasn't very well acquainted with the film at all, as you say it appeared that he just didn't understand the stuff he was "sinning". As far as I am concerned there is an old Shakespearean quote that seems really apt here; the film is "more sinned against than sinning".

It's a cult film that fills a demand, not a grand cinematic accomplishment. Even I'd admit that V for Vendetta was a cult film and not something to hold up as infalliable, and I personally loved that film. Niche audiences means that there will always be someone to enjoy it as time goes on. That's the nature of such films, to appeal to specific audiences by doing something(s) differently than traditional media.

"Superhero" The books and to an extent the movie go a long way to avoid the use of the word superhero, because they're not superheroes. Instead they're called masked vigilantes or costumed heroes (notice the lack of "super" there), and that's one of the main points of the narrative. I know sins can be a bit silly sometimes, but sinning a couple dudes dragging away another dude just because you mistook him for a superhero does not make sense, it just makes me think you didn't pay much attention to the actual narrative.

That's why Birdman (despite winning a ton of 2014's Oscars) didn't make a lot of money, and that's why Watchmen can be "critically one of the best novels in the english language" and have a large number of detractors. P.S. Ever tried to read Ulysses by James Joyce? It routinely comes out on top of best novel ever lists, but it's insanely hard to read and follow. The author just makes up words at times, uses Latin and Middle English, and will run on sentences for pages at a time.
