"He's a hologram" only in the 200x canon, but certainly not in the Filmation, nor 80s mini-comics. You can't just wave a magic wand and fit together vastly different MOTU universes. Different universes have different Faker origins. Filmation's Faker was a demonic clone of He-Man, created with Skeletor's magic. In the mini-comics he's a pure robotic clone of He-Man, but with unexplained blue skin. King Randor kills him with his staff. *Each universe has it's own spin on every character.*

The vintage Faker was an intriguing character when I was a kid. The "evil twin" or "Hero Impersonator" was a trope we'd seen in cartoons, but this was the first time it was done as a toy! Mattel actually did release Faker more than once in the original 80's line-I had the original, but I remember seeing the re-release in stores, with a card announcing "He's back!"

Faker has a special place in my heart because when I was young, both my grandmother and Santa got me the standard He-Man figure, so my grandmother took me to the store and I got to pick any other figure I wanted to replace the spare He-Man, and I picked Faker, irony not being lost on me, even then. I was confused as a child because I was absolutely sure I'd never seen Faker in the cartoon series. Man, what life would have been like with Google and KZbin back then :)

Maybe the true Faker, the holo-bot, is just underneath a metal exoskeleton, and projects the hologram on top? It would make sense for Skeletor to alter the holo-bot into a more capable threat, as well as one that actually takes up the physical space of He-man, for a more competent stealth robot, otherwise people would try to slap He-man on the back and then they'd phase into those exhaust pipe things poking out of his shoulders.

Not sure how much this matters, but from what I read/saw there are a few points. 1. The Faker plotline you mentioned for the Mike Young/200X show was going to be the end of season 2. Remember Awaken the Serpent was only half way through season 2. 2. I think Skeletor/Tri-Klops were going to use Faker, but to fool everyone into thinking it was He-Man that betrayed Randor/Eternia. Not sure how much of the blue skin aspect they were going to utilize (It sounds like the Gar racist aspect was more of a Classics take on things). Skeletor was going to proceed to conquer Eternos, and at the suggestion of Evil-Lyn banish Randor to Despondos...which was going to result in Hordak's return.

The whole Gar storyline makes a lot of sense figure wise. I honestly was very annoyed as a kid when Faker showed up in Filmation as just "glowey eyes He-Man". How can Skelly know the ceiling of He-Man’s powers to create a carbon copy so easily? Why didn’t he make like 10 of them?! It was so obscure back then. And after listening to this, it still is lol.

I looked for it in stores with no luck and no other friend ever had it so it was just that one time that i saw him and then the mystery grew most likely due to the rarity as well as the desire to find out its origins etc.

I never really liked the whole racism plot idea because I always thought of the people of Eternia as being above such things. Not only that, but having absolutely everyone believe that He-Man was secretly a Gar the whole time made them seem kinda dumb. Now I know in recent years it has been shown that a surprising number of people will believe anything, but I hope that the people of Eternia would be smarter than that. lol As for Faker, I prefer his Filmation and Revelation origin. He just looks cool battle damaged like that. The Eterniator.

I dunno, you watch even the old Filmation cartoons, there were a lot of judgmental and intolerant people on Eternia -- from loads of species, Humans included.

@@Beedo_Sookcool Yeah, but even then most had their doubts. To think that everyone would turn on He-Man, who had saved the world and their lives countless times over, just because they thought he might have blue skin? Nah.
@Beedo_Sookcool2 жыл бұрын
@@OzzieAstaroth No, they turned on him because they thought he was a Gar who'd been fooling them the whole time . . . who then used his influence to get close and kill King Randor. He DIDN'T -- it was just a smear campaign -- but that's what Faker and Skeletor made them THINK.
@OzzieAstaroth2 жыл бұрын
@@Beedo_Sookcool Yeah, but I still don't like the idea. Just doesn't make much sense to me. He-Man could just show up and fight Faker or show that he is actually Prince Adam.

That origin story kind of reminds me of the Star Trek lore of the Ferengi, a primitive culture given technology way too fast with a disastrous result. Bring that up just to add some counterpoint to the whole Eternians are racist thing. ^_^ And the whole trend of holograms kind of comes and goes, like you mentioning recent movies with it. You have to admit the endoskeleton damaged look is pretty kickass. ;)

"Faker isn't just an evil version or opposite version of He-Man the way Bizarro is for DC and Superman, Faker has, well, he's taken on a life of it's own" I appreciate the enthusiasm for Faker and MOTU from your perspective as an insider and fan, but this is a little ... incorrect? ... too enthusiastic? Nothing against Faker, but has Bizarro not only has significantly more lore and fiction than Faker, but also far more than He-Man. Bizarro has been around off and on since 1956 as part of a comic book that has never stopped. Checking the references, he has been in 5 cartoon and 2 TV live actions shows at least if not more. Like Faker, Bizarro may have started as an opposite evil of Superman, but even in the Superfriends cartoon we saw as kids he had more going on
@BainesMkII2 жыл бұрын
It's also a bit funny that 200X/MOTUC is being treated as the definitive "He-Man" history. Like saying that Faker is really a hologram projected onto training robot, when that is only the 200X Faker. Filmation Faker was created by Skeletor's magic. The UK comics apparently also had him be a creation of Skeletor's magic. Nor was the 200X incarnation like the original toy.
@kyleolson89772 жыл бұрын
@@BainesMkII I appreciate that Scott has a special perspective on the He-Man toys. For many of us they were part of our childhoods and he was able to be a part of bringing them back. But like a lot of people deep into a fan base he can get a little narrow on how he sees a thing and I wish he would step back a bit. The issue for me is that when I see comments that are over the top for things that I'm familiar with or have enough knowledge of it makes me question the facts the person provides that I don't have enough knowledge of. I don't think content creators are trying to spread false info or know that they're wrong, I just think some creators aren't as careful as they could be. Scott's Faker/Bizarro statement was absolutely without malice and harmless. But it was so obvious it broke my "don't tilt at windmills" sensor. The real problem is always when a big creator says something wrong that turns into something everyone assumes is true. My favorite example of a false fact is "Alone in the Dark Inspired the gameplay/theme/genre/whatever for Resident Evil". I don't know how it started. I honestly don't care about Resident Evil or Alone in the Dark, but it's factually untrue for documented reasons. Yet people feel it's true so they keep repeating it.

@kyleolson89772 жыл бұрын
@@spectorcreative1872 It's not about knocking Bizarro. I assume you worked on Bizzrro as well at some point. it's just about what you said being out of proportion the way it was said. But it's harmless. It's not like some of the videos out there that rewrite history and assume something was the most important ever. I probably wouldn't say anything if I thought you would be offended, and I hope you weren't.

I liked it except for one huge detail. If Teela had been torn up and upset the whole time because of grief (she believed both of Adam's identities to be dead), instead of over having the secret kept from her, the whole thing would have been both more palatable and more believable. That $#!t was weak, honestly. Lesser gripe: most of the dialogue was utterly godawful.
