Been watching your vids for a few years, and I think this is your best yet. Good factual info, put across well, by somebody with a passion for their subject. I bought a Webley 951 brand new as a first gun a few years ago and just sold it to buy a 30 year old 686. Fantastic gun and much better imo. Not sure if it was intentional but over your shoulder was written ATA, and as you alluded towards the end, they are slowly becoming the most commonly recommended gun for first time game and sporting shooters.

My S.55 Silver Snipe is nothing fancy, but always seems to be a conversation starter, mostly due to not having a top rib, just a front blade sight. Beretta is definitely one of my favorite makers.

Years ago I was given one. Obviously a very strong design but I rarely use it because the stock is far too straight. Guns with more drop at comb and heel are much more comfortable to handle. This is something that our shooting ancestors knew very well.

My first shot gun was a LC smith 12 bore side by side great gun. Years have past now I've bought a SP -1 sporter 12 bore 30" barrels extend chockes with color bands on them the sporter is very balance gun I have little weight in the rear to get my barrel rise up for balance at the hinge pin. Wow what a gun Love it.

Love the channel! I have two Beretta over-under shotguns I did not hear mentioned, or at least not by the names I know them by and what is marked on them: 1. A 20 "bore" as you would say Silver Snipe with a plain barrel which my father bought in 1961, 2. A 12 bore S 685 with a ribbed barrel that I believe he bought in the 1980s. The Silver Snipe has one of the most beautiful stocks I have ever seen. The wood on the S 685 is rather plain, but it is feather light and shoots great. I find almost nothing about the 685 on the Internet- it is as though it never existed. I would appreciate more information on these fine Berettas! Thanks Johnny - I really enjoy watching your videos - entertaining and informative! Scott

What are your thoughts on the modern Beretta shotgun range that are supposedly built a bit poorly? I quite fancied a 690 Black but have seen and heard of various Beretta stock/action failures where the gun has ended up falling into two pieces so I'm reluctant to chance it on one.

I bought my first Beretta, an AL-2 bird gun @ age 14, some 48 years ago. Well, my father actually bought it but it was with my money (I began working at age 12) It was about a pound lighter than Dad's Rem 1100 and for years he kept trying to trade me for it. I still have it, along with a 1201FP and a 92F. I love them all and plan on having them all buried with me.

I have been interested in Buying a 686 for a few years now. I fight the same battle as most people where I have money for one gun with which I would like to shoot game and clays. I have long thought a game model with 30 inch barrels would suffice. Slightly better swing than the standard 28s while still sitting in a lighter game stock. My question is if there would be a balance issue making the gun front heavy and more work to carry in the field. I would appreciate any replies. Thanks

I've heard all kinds of BS about Beretta's being made in Turkey. One person told me the barrels are made in Turkey. Another said the whole gun is made in Turkey and then assembled in Italy. I've even been told that Beretta owns many of the Turkish companies. I think someone just read that the wood is Turkish Walnut and then assumed the gun is made in Turkey. Besides.... If Beretta actually changes them to be made in Turkey they will probably change the name to the Silver Turkey..... Call the black edition the Roasted Turkey.
@john-paulsilke893
@john-paulsilke893 5 жыл бұрын
Jake Burma nothing wrong with a Turkish gun but they most certainly don’t match the higher quality Beretta guns. On a budget by all means get yourself a decent Turkish gun but honestly you are gonna pay a premium for the Beretta and for the same quality you are gonna pay at least 1.5 times. However their higher end guns are nearly without compare. I am no gentleman so I have an M4 and Montefeltro, (I prefer the former since I can beat it all to Hell and have never cleaned it and never intend to).

I watch your videos fairly often and I wonder why you always seem to only talk about Over/Unders ? Me personally, I think most people only buy OU because they look cool. A semi-auto is much more practical in my opinion. I'd love to see what you think of a Beretta A400 vs. Benelli Supersport ... I've only shot a Silver Pigeon for 1 day and besides that I've always used a Benelli ... so maybe I'm a bit biased but, after shooting the Beretta, it made me appreciate the Benelli much more.

I bought a 686 silver pigeon 2 years ago. I only shoot enough trap to get tuned up for grouse every year. Last year, mid season, I saw that there was rust forming from under the bluing. The bluing actually lifted and flaked off the rib. When I looked alot closer I saw pitting in the receiver end of the barrel steel. Very poor quality materials and finish. I've have my 1100s for 50 years and never had problems like this. Beretta QC was asleep when this gun was made. I'll never buy another Beretta gun of any kind. I just bought a Citori Hunter. We'll see...

Try oil dried very hard and doesn’t absorb well, so use it very sparingly. You can start as soon as you get home. Always wait until it is dry before adding the next layer, and when you achieve a finish you are happy with - stop and only apply more as it wears.

If I were going to spend a lot of money on a modern gun (which I wouldn't), I would expect chopper lump barrels not monobloc. Even rotoforged (cold forged) barrels would be more appealing. I would also expect absolutely perfect wood-to-metal fit, which these seem not to have.

There are some models you forgot. And , your talking points on modern manufacturing vs. cost? They should be cheaper ,not more expensive. Your attitude towards a well hand fitted gun compared to a cookie cutter manufactured gun is as well not all that true either. It may help in parts duplication , but we are not talking about the early 19th or 20th century here. I repair guns of all types and age classes and most parts are available to fit. Quality is everything, if modern technology was the benchmark for firearm quality, then Turkish or even China made guns would be all you need.

I have no problem with a modern gun that's machine made/finished, however I keep reading about problems with the action on the 690 series, whereas the 686 series is considered bullet proof...
