Everything You Need To Know About BMW's M54 Engine

I will be honest I thought you were going to do like a pros and cons vid. Nothing is wrong with the video but this is more of like a “BMW M54 Engine spec review”. Although I am now on my second E46 (probably gonna get a third) I enjoy watching videos on people speaking about “common issues” they’ve had with the M54. Mainly the M54B30 since I’ve only owned bimmers with that engine. Either way this is defo a good vid for someone who is curious on the M54 engine specs.

Thanks for the comment brother. I have the M54 in E60 myself and now it has over 300k kilometers. No issues whatsoever, couple of oil drips on the gaskets, just top up the oil and it's good to go.

Definitely one of BMWs best engines ever made. Mines on 263k never been opened original chain etc still running and driving perfectly. As long as you keep oil and coolant in them they serve you well.

@@HarisCars what’s your oil consumption like? I’m using a litre every 1000 miles which isn’t bad considering the mileage. I don’t get any smoke at all it just slowly consumes it

@@dexietyy7922 Basically the same! I always keep an extra bottle of oil in the car and put in a bit every now and then.

@@HarisCars yes me too I only check it every 2 weeks it mainly uses it if I sit right up at the redline if you keep it below 5k it’s fine very good reliable engines on these you just can’t beat them and the sound too!

The S54 has so little in relation to the M54 that I wouldn’t call it a variant.

@@HarisCars It’s not an opinion. Your video even says that the S54 is an evolution of the S50 and not actually a variant. People falsely believe that there are similarities when their actually isn’t. For one, the S54 has a cast iron block. Head doesn’t even bolt on. Wiring/routing all different. Only the engine mounts are interchangeable.
