What a helpful video! Thank you for all the great information. I am brand new at this. When I color, I get bleeding along the black line and feathering beyond it. I’m using memento black ink which is supposed to be good for alcohol markers. I’ve used Bristol smooth paper or Ninah’s 100 pound. What am I doing wrong? Thanks so much!

Happy it's helpful! That's a great question! I'll definitely have to do a video on this and experiment, because I've hit this issue as well. Personally, when I use india ink it seems to create enough of a bleed barrier. You could also try switcing up your paper to something that is specifically designed for markers. Anybody got any thoughts?

Me, a broke beginner artist who does way more digital art than traditional: *this is useful information right here*

"broke" Markers and paper are a lot cheaper than a tablet and software my buddy. Well off people love to make themselves seem destitute for some reason.
@Soogelle10 ай бұрын
@soupyschitz secondhand wacom intuos prices: hover about £10 - £30 softwares range a lot but there's lots of free software and a popular software (clip studio) i got for a one off purchase of £25 on sale and its £20 a year on another device copic markers cost my dad £100+ when he got a set for me on my birthday some time ago. Idk how copic prices are now but there are many ways to be a cheap digital artist too, ur making this a massive non issue

I’ve got a couple of questions. 1.what paper do you use/recommend? 2.what do you do your line art with and do you let it dry and for how long? 3. When you blend do the darker colours get on the lighter markers?(like you said some people make them kiss or something and does that ever come out?)
@shinigamikouryu2 жыл бұрын
Not sure if you still wondering or not. But I personally like - Bristols papers (they are thick and smooth!) - X-Press It Blending card is another good one (not every store have them, so best bet is Amazon) - Kent Papers (good for beginners, Daiso one is good and cheap!) - Sketchbook papers (Personally love maruman, but there’s many other good ones too) - Watercolour paper (not cheap and it drains your ink faster and not the best for your markers tip, but i like the finished look, as it has some texture to it too) P.S: Always put a paper or something on the back of the page you are colouring just in case they bleed through! 2. Depends on what you use, as well as the paper. But i normally left it overnight or 30+ minutes. (Watercolour need longer time) There’s many lineart pen like micron, copic, staedtler, etc. Do try a bunch and see which one you like! (I use copic as I feel the micron tips easily bend if you are the type to push hard on the tip, staedler is okay, but not that much variation) 3. Some darker colour like dark grey do “stain” the light (mainly pastel) colour tip if you use the light colour on top or to blend the dark colour. But no worries, just use the tip on some papers and they will be gone after a few stroke (even if the tip is still darkish) Copic also sell replacement nibs if needed!

What paper do you use? I imagine typical copy paper, for instance, would just get torn up. Was that bristol? Thanks so much!
@marydoodles4 жыл бұрын
D'OH!!! I NEVER MENTIONED PAPER! In this video I am using a 100lb drawing paper. I also like to use Bristol board, vellum and marker paper. With marker paper there is usually more of a smooth finish to the surface and so the pigments take longer to settle. This gives you more unique blending opportunities. Marker paper also will not drink up as much of the ink so your final colors are usually more vibrant.
@Alaylaria4 жыл бұрын
Alcohol markers also don't chew up the paper like water-based markers do! I've used copics (and other alcohol markers too) on copy paper with no issue. It doesn't seem to blend quite as nicely and bleeds like crazy, but you -can- do it. Just be sure to put something behind it to catch the inevitable bleeding. On that note, I'm also pretty sure you can clean up ink on your desk and such with rubbing alcohol if it's not too rough of a surface, but that depends a lot on what you're trying to clean exactly.

I have some knock-off Copic markers (which I realize are not as good as the brand name), but my son is very into art and I want to support his habit as much as possible. Well, I'm not as familiar with tombow. the only one I've used was a liner pen that was quite nice. Copic markers are an alcohol based marker, and allows you some wiggle room to blend. I'll have to investigate Tombow. As I said, I really liked their liner pen.

There are cons for copic markers like the initial investment is so much that its not worth it for people who do art as a hobby.Another major thing is that u have to use a specific kind of paper for this to show it's true nature or else if u use just a generic sketchbook the colours seperate alot and it bleeds alot as well.Considering the price u would think it should be more versatile
