I uses to ride western and we used sports medicine boots (professional choice brand). When the weather got cold I thought my horse should wear smbs. My trainer agrees with you and my horse is bootlegs and doing fine. Thanks for the video.

Very simple, concise and informative video. I feel like a lot of the boots/bandages are just good marketing and not really necessary for most horses. Thank you again x

I'll be adding to tendon boots as soon as my gelding starts to do a bit more work. Good information to know.

Interesting! I use open front jumping boots but often wondered if brushing boots would provide better or different protection. Thanks for this!

I too hate the fur lined brushing boots. So glad I'm not alone, thanks x

I've got 3 brand new sets of bandages that I've never used. Definitely selling on now!

Wow what useful information, I’ve always known the damage bandaging can potentially cause, especially if not applied correctly too but didn’t know how vital it was to cool straight after removal😳 scary how easy they are to purchase with little advice or knowledge shared - thank you🙌

So i have those lemiuex boots and i have found they make my horses leg hotter than the polo wraps (even thought they have all those vents)

I know why you have those boots that you wonder why you have them still... so you can show the rest of us exactly what boots we shouldn't have on our shelves!! Thank you for saving us money and keeping our horses safer.

Anything that insulates or keeps the legs warmer then they would be without a wrap. Heat within tendons can damage and kill tendon cells, leading to inflammation. Inflammation in turn leads to damage and weakening of the tendon. Over time this weakens the tendon eventually leading to failure and a tear or rupture. During work, the temperature within the core of large tendons can be similar to those within the muscles (44°C or more). Tendons have a very poor blood supply. Combined with a low number of live tendon cells, this is partly why tendon injuries are often slow and poor to heal. Keeping them as cool as possible keeps them in the optimal state for regeneration

I can’t find the video on halfpads! Could you make a video about halfpads or in general what pads you use with young horses

Thanks for the content, do any of thoes options aid a horse that has has a mild suspensory ligament injury?
@KathyS19 Жыл бұрын
My horse had a strained check ligament. I only use Eskadron combi wrap on his front legs for compression. He has mesh splint boots for all 4 legs for jumping. Keep it simple; I like that the eskadron climatex cotton lining absorbs sweat. With any wraps, make sure someone experienced helps you learn.

Hi - this is an amazing question. No they don't - any horse that has had any sort of a suspensory ligament injury, regardless of whether it is big or small, the horse will never heal until you give them complete rest. So with a suspensory ligament you need to give them complete rest until it scans up completely clear, otherwise the horse will never be able to recover.

Is the overheating a problem because it makes the tendons stretch more than normal?

my sixteen year old anglo arab has torn tendons on his front legs and i use fleece bandages with the perforated pads underneath so that he has protection fr on m knocks and support to help him avoid tweaking the. previous injuries because it doesnt take much . I avoid riding if its very wet and try to keep the arena as level as possible . my magnetic rug and leg wraps might be helpful. before riding and I also use overeach boots all round when he is turned out .He is the most stupid horse always racing around like a yearling and never seems to have any sign of slowing down .He doesnt think hes a veteran guys .
@krisstina7695 Жыл бұрын
It's simply untrue that bandages r boots provide any support. There is way too much force on a horses leg for bandages to provide any support. Also, the heat factor is there for anything you wrap around the legs, not just bandages. And tendon boots, I.e. the boots that close around the tendon on the bottom, are really terrible for your horse.
@KathyS19 Жыл бұрын
Agreed. However, I did use a combi bandage on My horse's front legs after a ligament strain. Think of it like a sore knee or ankle sprain, im interested in compression. I only put boots on for jumping and off right after.

I love hearing new information! Can you pop the link to the clinical trial that has been conducted to prove this? I always base everything I do off science. I can't wait to read it! ❤

@@YourRidingSuccess to what? To the fact that bandages cannot Support? That is evident - you cannot put a cast on a horses leg, because it will break, so obviously a bandage won't do much for support. Not saying that they do not have their use, but it's not support. Even for pressure you'd have to put so much pressure on them that it would damage your horses lymph system. That's why we are taught to leave room for at least one finger, which is BTW the same if a vet bandages a horse if it's injured. As for the overheating - there are numerous studies on these. Just Google it, you will find numerous studies. I only have access to German studies, sorry, but I will try to find something. But this is really common knowledge among riders in Germany and it had been for, I'd say at least 20 years. The old saying was "Bandagen stützen, Gamaschen schützen", which I am sure you can translate online, and I distinctly remember I was taught that this was outdated and untrue when I did my first Reiterpass, and that was 30 years ago.
