Since you have the same breed, I was wondering, how manageable is the exercise? Because some people say it’s constant exercise whereas others say it’s not too bad?

It’s manageable, however i have a large yard. If you have a yard, not a problem. If you don’t, this might not be the breed for you if you aren’t willing to play or take them on walks constantly. I put mine outside unsupervised, keeping an occasional eye on her, and she will stay out there for hours.

Watching this video now while my new 9 week old Mini Aussie is chewing below the desk. TOTALLY relate to the story about the beginning of crate training. Understand that researching the good and the bad about this breed is essential. Aussies are returned to breeders often because folks just really don't know what they are getting into. My experience with multiple Aussies is that they take at least two years to really calm the heck down. To establish a Frankie to the Moon relationship will require a tremendous, tremendous amount of time and patience on your part.

@FrankieToTheMoon3 жыл бұрын
If Frankie did that, I would walk in front of him to separate the connection and show him that there is nothing to be worried about and I can handle my own and we are safe. So by standing in front and not just yelling at him, it shows that the situation is okay. body language is way more powerful than words
@brittanylockwood60853 жыл бұрын
Mine used to have this issue too, but mainly larger breeds. She does it with people too. Aussies love their families and are very protective of who their family is. So your Aussie is anxious and viewing others as a threat to you and their family. Blocking eyesight and reverting attention helps. It worked with mine, but she still did it sometimes. We got her into obedience training and she really got better. She still has issues with certain dogs. My neighbor has a golden doodle and they are not good at respecting boundaries. She’s still not good with him, but she does much better in general. I think the most important part is getting your dog out of eyeline of the people and other dogs.

I have one with a three year old and a baby (6 months now) She is so good with them. When she gets really excited she’ll try and nip their heels (trying to herd) but once you tell her no, she’s completely fine. The three year old is super energetic, so I find her to be a good companion dog for her. She’ll bring her ball to them to throw or her toys. I actually have a video of her bark (talking) as a puppy to the three year old. They are amazing family dogs and as long as you can split time between the kids and your puppy, they will be fine.

The AKC only recognizes a standard Australian Shepherd as an Aussie. Minis and toys are recognized as American shepherds. It’s an AKC registration thing. Minis and toys are not recognized as Australian shepherds per their standards. But it’s the same dog breed. Just the sizing is the determining factor.

I have found that when they are young puppies (a few months old) they tend to bite and chew. But I found trying to circumvent that with bones and toys helped. Now she’s over a year and doesn’t bite people or animals. She does nip, but that’s her ingrained herding instinct. You can’t get rid of that, but you can try to help modify the behaviors.

You see so positive ahha i would hate to break it to you but you're wrong
@brittanylockwood60853 жыл бұрын
Not necessarily true. There are technically three versions. (Although a different distinction from the AKC). You have the toy which usually maxes at around 14 inches high and approximately 20lbs (big weight). You have the mini which can get up to around 20 inches height and about 40lbs. Then you have the standard Aussie which is about 24 inches height and approximately 40-60lbs. He might look a bit taller than normal minis, but it happens. Genetics and what dogs are being bred. If they’re both minis or not. Minis can be bred with a standard and produce a larger than normal mini, but it’s still classified as a mini.
