i cannot begin to explain how awesome this video is! Thanks man! I've been playing RCT2 for 20 years now off of the same CD. My new pc doesnt have a CD player in it so i had to buy the game off of steam but the steam version lacks some of the features my original CD had. Getting this Open version has been incredible. All of the old features and plenty more! really appreciate this tutorial man, thank you

If you’re installing custom content, the easiest way to find the folder (because its location can vary between operating systems), would be to click the red toolbox in the title screen and then pick "Open custom content folder". That will always open the right folder and might save some hassle.

Thanks dude you really did cover all bases here I was deciding on what to buy RCT 1 or 2 and i saw reviews on steam that you need openRCT2 to run without crashes. I was gonna go with RCT classic and hope for the best but decided to look up openRCT2 and now ill save 4 bucks with the deluxe and get both games combined. Thanks!

10:22 This is what really made it clear to me how impatient I have become over the years. For several minutes after launching OpenRCT2, I thought there were no tooltips because I couldn't stand hovering over a button for more than half a second. I was almost sure it was either instantaneous or way faster in the original, but I'm probably misremembering it. Still, I figured it out on my own, without watching your video to this point, so I guess it's not _as_ bad as it could've been. 😅

What specfially peaked my interest was your mentioning off the plug-ins and the costum scenery items. Thos are two things worth exploring. @@TubeCody I must be late to the party, I didn't even know this game existed until I was having an issue with Classic on steam this last week and someone in the steam forums commented that he didnt play classic much anymore since OPENRCT2 is that much better. I was like WTF is OPENRCT2 and then boom I find your video and their website and I am like a kid in a candy store. I am a senior I.T. technician with my own computer repair shop with over 20yrs experience in this field and also have a passion for classic gaming. So seeing all the fixes in the change log got me all excited to see devs working on this! The built in trainer is awesome! Virtual floor is when you're using scenery and you lift it off the ground, glassy is the best one imo Always use system file browser is to toggle between the save GUI OpenRCT2 has or the save file browser that is used in normal RCT2 I would also like to mention that there's workbenches available, it's basically an empty park with specific custom objects

I think something thats an amazing feature that you didn’t mention is the ability to import height maps. You can get a height map of any place in the world, so you can get real accurate terrain data from any real theme park and load it into the game. I think the hardest part of the game is making realistic landscapes and height maps do all the work for you.

@@TubeCody Hello there. Yes, I've installed it, and started to test it. It's amazing! We can even change the hotkeys on the fly which is very practical for me coz I'm left handed. There's only one little thing they should change in this mod, and that's the scaling system. It's great that we can increase and the decrease the scale of the game so easily BUT both the game, and the user interface are merged together. For 4K resolution, it would be great if we could keep the game in X1, and keep the UI scale in X2 all together. Other than that it's super awesome. Thanks so much for that tutorial

Moin Cody, well I am from Luebeck in northern Germany and I enjoyed watching yozr video about of open rct2...well I still have the old CDs of rct 2 with two extra CDs of some extra stuff but after downloading open rct2 the software asks me to put files into the folders bur where to find the old files I allrwady have on my Laptop? Some sound files are not working like expected, what can I do? It seems that me maybe a little stupid wth that stuff or maybe my computer equipment is too old? I was disconnected by internet the last ten years and I use windows 7 home edition onto my old acer laptop. Yes, I am 54 years old and like playing rct2 as well as possible. Hi Ingo! Thanks for watching and for commenting :) have you tried to uninstall and reinstall the games first? That might fix the sound issue and it would give you the chance to see where it is installed so you can grab the file path. Hope this helps!

about the desktop shortcuts Steam creates, you're aware they don't actually point to the game, right? it's an ''internet'' shortcut that points to the Steam client and tells it to launch an AppID (incase of RCT2, that is ''285330'') the shortcut Steam creates does not point directly to wherever Steam installed the game, it literally just tells the Steam background service to launch the game by giving it the AppID.

BUT i wasn't asking about how you can find the game files and i know you pointed out how you could easily let Steam point WIndows Explorer to the location of the games data folder without having to navigate to it manually. I was talking about how it's not needed (or helpful for finding the files) to let Steam create a desktop and/or start menu shortcut, as thats not needed for the feature to work and (as i said in my comment) only tells Steam to launch a game using it's specific AppID. That's what my reasoning for posting this comment was. maybe read it a bit more carefully, cause i wasn't asking about where to find the game files, just pointing out that creating a shortcut is not needed. (only good reason for a Steam shortcut is having a quicker way to launch a certain game quicker on the desktop without having to go into the Steam client first)

@TubeCody it does not help with finding the files, though. Do some research on how Steam shortcuts work before you claim that it's "needed" in your video. It's literally only helpful for launching if you have hundreds of Steam games installed, but only play a select few often, and you don't wanna open up the client just to launch the game. The shortcut can't point you to the games location itself, as Windows sees it as an internet shortcut because of how it works (and the protocol it calls)

I did it with winlator and gog offline installers. But you need to install it in d drive where the phone downloads are use the guide for android install. I did it without a pc.

And i also used file manager plus to add the correct adress to where the game is in openrct user config. The controls aren't good though ingame left click is one tap two taps are right click and you can either change prices with plus or minus or push the window of price and change it to your value. No way to use shift to stack scenery i think

Hi Cody. Thanks for your videos. They're super helpful! I'd recently downloaded OpenRCT2. It's on my Desktop as an .exe file. I also have Steam with every RCT on it. For some reason, it won't let me integrate OpenRCT2 to Steam. Do I have to delete all my RCT games and start over to get OpenRCT2 on Steam? If I do that, I'll probably have to pay for them again. I can play just fine with the .exe file, but I feel like I'm missing out on things. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated 👍. BTW, I had given this game to my son in the 90's on a CD Rom. Years later, he'd given it back and I played it from time to time. When I found OpenRCT2, I was so excited!!!

This is so cool!! I hope you and your son can play together!! As far as the issue you’re seeing- what exactly happens when you are prompted to choose the file directory where rollercoaster tycoon 2 is installed on your computer?

​I get to the part in Steam where the "scary box" is supposed to pop up, but it doesn't pop up for me. It just goes directly to OpenRCT2 (the game itself). It doesn't ask for the file name. Maybe my exe file on my desktop is causing an issue?

Cody- I'd gotten OpenRCT2 into Steam....YAY! . I had to go about it in a different way. Why? Um...I don't know! Anyway, I had to go to Steam then "Games" then "Add a non Steam game to my library." And, presto, it was there! I'm so excited considering how technically-challenged I am LOL ;-) Thanks Again!!!

Just asking this in case I fail with the “watch this as I go” process. I got a steam deck, I want rct on it. Assuming openect2 is my best bet. I have rct classic on my iPad app. I know how to copy the files on the app to get it on the Mac (make sure I have Mojave, iTunes…grab it there etc, went through that but want it portable now on the steam deck) my question is: can I make the transfer from the Mac onto my steam deck? It would be on a steam account in Mojave (I actually don’t know if I need Mojave this time around since it’s not about playability on the Mac but whatever) Any and all solutions/guesses are welcomed. Also if you answer it in this video I apologize in advance lol

Hello, just getting back into RCT. I have OpenRCT2. But I have enabled everything you have and for some reason the Object selection, Inventions list and objective selection is greyed out for me. Does anyone here know what to do to fix this?

Do you have “cheats” enabled? I think that might be why

Installed the games and OpenRCT2 installer on windows and that’s where the pop up doesn’t show up for me to paste the maps. 😂

Can you use Open RCT2 with RCT Classic? Or does it have to be used with RCT Deluxe and RCT 2 Triple Thrill Pack only? I think I heard somewhere that you can use Open RCT2 with RCT Classic and that it has both games somewhat updated for modern hardware but not sure if that’s true or not though. PS. Made it to the end! ;P

Yes, you can use RCT Classic instead of RCT2. I don't think it makes any difference which you use.
