Post Notes: - I recommend scraping the contact pads with a screwdriver, followed by cleaning them before applying the silver paste for the best chances - Matt IPS is not a fingerprint magnet (good for lensless faceplate build if you dare) - Sorry for the lack of uploads, this video took way too long to make during a busy time for me. - It was originally going to be 3 different videos but since so much of it overlap, it ended up being one. - The intro is way too fast I know : |

You are probably the best PSP YT content creator rn, the amount of effort you put into something so niche is insane, love it I got a PSP 3000 recently because I only ever had my childhood 2000 model, and yeah the interlacing issue is very bad in some games, I wonder if an IPS screen for it is even possible, since the original screen is so unique, I hope so. Also I didn't know it had a unique Color Space setting at first, thankfully some guy on KZbin told me about it, when I complained about how the colors didn't seem better than on 2000 :p

I really wanted to daily a PSP 3K on my commute to school, but when I tried, I quickly realised that the screen is basically useless in sunlight... i did the conversion just this day..(matt display) one thing to mention : the matt display is a little to small for the steel frame of the psp to hold it /doesn t sit tight like the old one. it is secured a bit by the buttons holder/frame. also i was fiddeling with the small cable of the ips display, and broke the secure latch of the connector housing. so be aware that these small latches are easy to break.(they re aged as well) i secured the cable with a tiny drop of screw secure glue. works like a charm

what a great video. learned way more about these replacement screens from this, than from any other video from bigger creators out there! great job. also i've got an intriguing question - do the IPS panels drain more energy than original displays? on one hand they are way brighter, so it kinda makes sense for them to drain more battery, but on other hand they're way more modern tech compared to the ancient original LCD's, so it also makes sense for them to be more energy efficient.

@thohillesland6 ай бұрын
This is a video i would have really needed half a year ago. Not because of the IPS display comparison, but this is one of the only good videoes i have seen going comparing the screen of the different PSP models that also includes the PSP Street! I got into the PSP a couple of years ago with the PSP 2000, however i didn't really like very much. Mostly because of the horrible Ghosting of the screen, and i wasn't much of a fan of the thin formfactor with the glossy finish. So when looking into the other options everyone pointed me to the 3000 model, however the intelacing of that model didn't seem ideal either, and it still had the exact same formfactor as the 2000. Then since i live in europe, i also looked into the PSP Street, however there are next to no reliable or good information about the PSP Street's screen anywhere, and especially no comparison videos. Because of the lack of info about this topic, what i ended up doing was getting both a PSP 3000 and a PSP Street, then i made a short comparison video myself that is up on my channel. Its nowhere near as detailed or well done as what you did in this video, but half a year ago there just wasn't anything going over this type of info. In the end i ended up keeping the PSP Street and sold off the 2000 and 3000. To me the PSP Street was just way more comfortable to hold and play on than the 2000 and 3000 models, and while the downwards viewing angle is not ideal, its still way better than dealing with the ghosting of the 2000 model.

Can you show how you soldered the two connectors instead of using the silver paint? I think the more permanent solution is more appealing to me. You said it was a small wire? You heated up the existing solder to connect this wire or did you add more? Can it be done with no wires just a big solder blob between the two?
@TotalKommandoАй бұрын
Doing it with a solder blog is extremely challenging since they are pretty far apart, could work if you used cheap solder but thats just asking for problems. You get a small thin wire, solder one end to the top of your wire I usually do the bottom one first. Then while holding the wire out, you solder the second point also to the wire but doesn't matter where, you just pull the wire upwards flat, where it lines up with the other connect, solder it, and once its all done, you can bend the wire back and forth till it comes off. You may or may not need a tiny bit of extra solder to make it easier, if you have flux it will be extremely helpful
@FrankDeMampАй бұрын
@TotalKommando i honest could not do it with a wire. Solder blob worked perfectly. Maybe the motherboard type i had was more appropriate for it. Now just waiting for a battery in the mail. Thanks

Thanks for the comparison. Unpopular opinion: I prefer 1000 stock. In terms of build quality, it has a premium look and feel. Regarding picture quality, it has more natural colors and a softer image. 3000 has the option to select between normal and wide color space in settings, which is good, but the picture looks a bit edgy and jaggy compared to 1000 for me. Never owned 2000, GO or Street models, so can't say anything about them.

I love all the videos on the psp and have watched them multiple times! I just wanted to say I think your missing the point of the matte display when you did the light reflection/visibilty test with the screens off. The matte display will beat all the other screens in reflection because it's not supposed to reflect light. This gives you better clarity when viewing in the sun or bright light with the screens on. This is also part of the reason the matte display appears ro be the brightest screen of the bunch.
@TotalKommando6 ай бұрын
Eyy, I used to like/prefer matte displays but since then I have switched, I could careless about reflections, been using a glossy oled tv as a screen for the past year and half, as well as recently upgrading my thinkpad x1 to a glossy 1440p ips display, and I can tell you, the loss of contrast, brightness, and color on the matte is no longer worth it for me. That being said, the PSP has a glossy lens ontop so it kinda defeats the purpose of a matte on a psp unless you run without one : ) And for matte brightness testing, if we remove the matte coating we would measure a slightly higher number not the other way around. Its brighter because its way brighter than the other models not because its matte.

Hey Total Kommando, great video though I had a question about the matt psp screen. I bought one of these screens via your provided link, and it was indeed the matt one that arrived, though I have to say that I was fairly disappointed with the brightness level compared to my adapted IPS screen. Either I got a faulty unit, or there might be something wrong with my brightness? For I did notice that I can only increase the brightness in 3 stages on the matt screen, and my adapted IPS allows for 4 stages of brightness settings. Could I ask, how many brightness stages does your matt IPS screen have? 3 or 4? Thanks in advance, and great videos, they have been SO helpful!
@TotalKommando6 ай бұрын
Hey, I'll let you know once I dig it out of my psp graveyard, I installed it on my Project Smokey PSP which is sitting on standby in parts. But from what I know, is that the 4th stage which is the full actual brightness only comes on when you have the PSP pluged into power. The stages can be modified, using a very handy plugin called "Brightness 1.6". www.mediafire.com/file/kf54xdf0x0609xe/Brightness_Control_v1.6.zip/file This should allow you to manually adjust brightness to max and see whats going on, in my testing it works best with the slim models, as I found for some reason it slightly reduces the brightness on the 1000 models, but you may not even notice the difference, I only knew when I measured it with a tool.

3000 is my favourite & overall the best 😊 I have two of them. I also have the PSP GO that's tied in 1st place. Street model is cool but I rather have the few extra features of the 3000, it's a step up from 1000/2000 but not worth the compromise when it comes to the 3000 model. Also it's a Reddit/forum overstated thing that got blown up proper mass hysteria regarding the interlacing. Barely noticeable or merely doesn't exist at all but see as the screens get older being older tech the supposed "interlacing" becomes more noticeable. It's not even interlacing it's something completely different but i won't bore you. It's been debunked long ago. I have two different models from different years & the screens are different in colour tone, one is warmer & the other cooler so must have been a little/subtle update in the screens. I know what you mean, I have old models that have horrible interlacing, and newer ones that have drastically reduced it. My 3000 MH Edition is amazing to look at, truly a fantastic screen. They all tend to get a warm tone eventually but not a big problem at all. Sony has updated the screens on the newer / final 3000 models released but not everyone has those.

thats why i didn't get the special edition oled deck, it was etched only.I have many oleds, including tv's laptop, other handhelds and one thing I know is the gloss on those displays is what allowed the colors to really pop. Some people say its not that bad, but to anyone used to oled for years its not great.If i really need reflection or matte i can use a matte or anti reflective screen protector temporarily. etched display ur just stuck

@TotalKommando8 ай бұрын
Epic : ) Sad to tell you that all 6 aftermarket 2000 screens I have purchased over the past several years have sucked horribly. Probably no one making proper ones, and probably coming from the same manufacturer. Dim, Dull, Lines, Defective, fragile absolutely not worth it if you want a solid 2000 experience, unless you just want it running and the screen is cheap enough then its worth it. My recommendation is if possible try your luck with a cheap as-is ebay psp from japan. Try to find a color that you can pull parts from to mix with your current psp for a 2 tone theme.

Its not impossible to do but hard to do perfectly, that layer is usually a polarizing filter, if you remove it, you will end up with a white screen that can only be viewed with that filter lined up correctly infront of it, so you would need to safely remove it first and cleanly install a perfectly cut glossy one : )

@TotalKommando8 ай бұрын
I would go with the 1000 model, the E1000 IPS is only good if you have an E1000 and or the E1000 is the only model available in your local market. The PSP Go although it has a nicer looking screen in terms of pixel density and colors, the controls are not good for long sessions. So 100% go with the PSP 1000 Model despite having lesser colors, its much brighter, and has much clearer and sharper motion : )

@TotalKommando4 ай бұрын
In the screen comparisons I tried to match the brightness to show the color differences. In the brightness measurements, I have done multiple units of the healthiest displays i have from each psp model, ensured they are at max brightness using a brightness plugin that lets me get full brightness as if I was connected to power. Yes the IPS Displays work normally with the brightness button, you can actually add more brightness levels or less using a brightness plugin that lets you customize everything, you can even get 80+ brightness levels

HI! if I put the piece of foam, when I close the shell, the display presses on the shell creating bright spots on the screen.. have you noticed this? (i have original shell) My matt display after 1 month of use has a slightly dark pixel on the side. Do you think I can get a refund on Aliexpress or can it happen and is it better to buy a pair and choose the best made one? It doesn't bother me much anyway but I want to have the perfect console.
@TotalKommando6 ай бұрын
The reason for the foam under the display is so it can push the display closer to the top and stop dust from getting in, as its thinner than the OG display. Combined with the foam ontop it makes it perfect without any extra pressure.. Out of the 5 IPS displays I got, non have any issues. I think the dark spot might be because of dead backlight led on that one side : | Yea I would contact them anyways, worse case you get another one :| Its most likely either a dead backlight led in that bottom corner or the solder contacts are weak, either way its hard to fix without damaging the display but you can try pressing the display corner between your fingers to see if it turns on the led while the faceplate is removed.
@w4gs2826 ай бұрын
@@TotalKommando Yes, exactly, the IPS display is thinner and flexes. This is precisely why putting the leftover foam under the display with the original shell presses too much. I don't know if you've only tried with the custom shell. Using scraps of paper I solved it but I wanted to understand why you don't have this problem!! I was also thinking of looking for a 1mm steel panel so the display can't flex.The pixel is very strange, when I tilt the display it looks normal. the phone camera also reshoots the pixel normally. Thanks !!!
@TotalKommando6 ай бұрын
It could be that your phone camera software is doing things that can mask the uneven lighting, could be by having longer exposure than our own eyes and masking the dim area. As for the OG vs Aftermarket, I have just tested 2 things for you, one Aftermarket shell with OG faceplate & OG Shell with OG Faceplate, and in both cases it works perfectly fine without any uneven pressure. The only thing I can think of is the following: kzbin.info/www/bejne/joe3Y4V-rqdketEsi=7Gh14LHnM8OTCudF&t=527 There is a little plastic point that needs to feed through the subframe, if its not seated properly it can cause unevenness, or its possible that your subframe is warped?
@w4gs2826 ай бұрын
@@TotalKommando Thanks so much for the reply. I checked, that piece of plastic is in the right place. The display when completely black at maximum brightness is very sensitive to any pressure on the edges. With the foam it presses too much, probably a matter of 0.1 mm. You can see a slightly lightened corner but this could depend on the thickness of the foam on the front of the display because it is elastic and therefore becomes less thick if you pull it before applying it, so I probably have one side of slightly thicker foam however it is not a problem I can solve this. Or I reassembled something badly but everything seems to be in place. I got another psp in better shape than mine for spare parts and faceplates so I can check if I've done something wrong when it arrives.
