To everyone reading this and is also taking the exam on May 7 (like me), first of all, I would like to wish everyone here the best of luck in the exam. Now I would also like to thank those who have shared the coverage of the exam (assuming it is true xD), it being Math, English, Science, and Abstract Reasoning. To give back, I would like to give tips on these subjects based on my experience. To give background, I was a former high school student under the DOST STE program (specifically from Parañaque NHS - Main) and as part of the requirements, I also took an exam covering the same subjects mentioned above. Now if we were to go by my experience from it, there are a few tips I can give to help leverage our chances of passing the exam, or at the very least, give motivation or reduce anxiety. 1. First, a general tip: Do not stress much about the coverage of the exam. What we only have for now are the subjects but that alone should be plenty. When I took our Grade 7 exam, I do remember the exam only covering the basics of a subject from elementary, thus my advice is to focus on the basics of the subjects because these have a higher chance of appearing on the exam. So skim a little bit on the basics of a subject and focus on reviewing those. If the exam does cover the majority of the basics and some deeper, specific topics, you would at least be confident in answering the basic parts, as guessing what said specific topics the exam would cover would be highly unlikely, and even if you do guess it correctly, retaining it for the exam is harder compared to equipping yourself with the basics. - now that is not to say you should not review complex topics of the subjects. If either you are done covering the basics or are already confident about your knowledge of them, then it won't hurt to review more complex topics that you genuinely think may appear on the exam, such as topics like quadratic equation, cell division, english grammar exceptions, etc. 2. Math: Now let's start being more specific and tackle each subject, starting with the most tricky part: Math. To be perfectly honest, math has been my strongest expertise. I've always been known as the math guy in our class. That said, I still know why some struggle when doing math. The main problem I find with most of them is "not understanding the basics of math". What I mean by that is, they struggle learning the current lesson like say the "SOH CAH TOA Trigonometric functions" when in fact the main issue is forgetting how to do fractions (taught in elementary). My advice, again, is to first understand the basics of math. Such are the properties of each operation (from addition to division), LCD, GCF, how to add/subtract/multiply/divide fractions, ratios, the basics of algebra, how to transpose equations, and the basics you've learned from grade 7 or 8. If for example you do not know how to do simple fraction multiplication, you will also struggle to do algebraic fractions. You will definitely forget lessons from your previous grades and that's okay, BUT if there is one subject you must never forget, at the very least the basics, that will be "MATH". The basics of Math will ALWAYS be used until college so definitely try not to forget them. 3. Science: Science is a tricky subject to review. Not only are there more scopes to cover, but it is also very hard to define what the basics are in this subject. To be brutally honest, I have no idea what a good tip would be here. If there is one, I guess try to remember and recall science topics on the top of your head and search up each of them, reading up and replenishing your stock knowledge. Doing so may help you remember more topics to search up. Just do some more reading because unlike math, science would probably be less practice and more reading on the net. 4. English: Not to brag (but also kinda), but reading my guide up until here, you may notice my proficiency in english. Yes, English is also one of my strengths. My exposure on english media from my childhood such as PSP games, english movies, and general english watching/gaming has subconsciously helped me improve my english making me skilled enough to also practice my accent. My advice here is to also search up the basics of english grammar. A good example I found is the "12 Rules of Grammar | (Grammar Basic Rules with examples)" from englishtopper(.)com (remove the parentheses on the dot). Read and carefully analyze the topic for this will teach the absolute basics of english grammar accompanied by excellent examples of correct and incorrect sentences. A weird but probably otherwise effective tip is to reread this guide of mine and try to analyze my sentences as well. Not sure if there's something worthy of learning from my way of writing but hey, better than nothing. 5. Abstract Reasoning. Listen up: THIS IS ARGUABLY THE MOST IMPORTANT SUBJECT TO LEARN FOR THE EXAM. If there's one subject that I scored 49/50 and helped me shoot up my ranking on our DOST-STE exam to "Top 10", that's "Abstract Reasoning". Abstract for short, is a type of exam that tests your comprehension to notice and understand patterns and "reason" with them. Starting with a tip: SEARCH IT UP ASAP! Simply searching it up is enough to master 70% of the subject so I cannot stress enough how important it is for you to search it up if you do not know what Abstract is. Search it up first to get an idea of what I'm about to talk about or you probably will not understand the next upcoming tips. Good? Good. The main goal is to analyze each box or item given and try to guess the next outcome of the pattern. Some questions will be easy to pick up the patterns while others will definitely be tricky. It will involve shapes moving from one place to another in a sequential pattern. My best advice here is to first analyze how many objects are involved in an item. After that, pick one object and try to follow its pattern. Repeat this on each object until you understand the whole pattern and look for the outcome from the choices. It is important to be patient and calm when analyzing the pattern. Abstract will definitely pull tricks like a dot teleporting from top to bottom or skipping 2 spots. You can try out tests from the net by searching "abstract reasoning tests". The first result would probably be from "123test(.)com". Try this 10-item test and see how many correct answers you get. After submitting your answers, each item will provide an explanation on how that outcome is the correct answer for the pattern. READ them and try to understand all 10 items. Once you do, know that the exam will probably use questions similar to this practice test so it is important to encounter them first outside the exam. They will change up the shapes and objects but the pattern may still be similar. Abstract does not require reviewing, but rather needs proper understanding and comprehension so practice is important. That's probably all I can give. I may or may not edit this to add more tips if I remember more. If there's one more tip I can give, that is to know: "whatever happens, happens". Don't stress out too much. Be patient and calm. Panicking especially on the exam will not help. Skip questions you do not know and come back to them later. Answer as many questions as you can correctly. If you cannot answer a question, accept it and move on. There's no use lamenting about it and having regrets. Just... do your best. Good luck to us on the exam!

May tanong po ako Maam Jane, if yung tuition fee po ba sadyang full nila mababayaran? Or meron po silang standard amount na tuition fee na ibibigay? Kasi ang school po na napili ko ay private school yun lang po kasi ang pinakamalapit na college university dito sa amin then naworry po ako if baka hindi lahat tuition fee babayaran ng SM kapag maging scholar kana kasi medyo mahal talaga sguro ang tuition doon kasi private.
