I rented the lens with an interest in the photography side of this. My struggles were: (1) you can take JPEG + RAW. However, the VR software... from Canon... does not support the CR3 raw files-only the JPEG. In either case, you can not make edits using Lightroom, then bring it into the VR software and convert the image to an equirectangular format. A LightRoom plugin would be nice for the export. I could convert the JPEG to equirectangular then edit in LightRoom or Photoshop. Unfortunately, then you can not make edits to the lower areas with the monopod/tripod base. And its a JPEG which is limiting the editing. If you get a perfect exposure, this isn't a huge issue; the jpeg image quality well surpasses a Ricoh Theta z1 or X cameras touted for their image quality. The Canon 180 provides a much higher quality result with the DSLR equipment - no surprise. (2) The EOS VR software is a beta-version, in my opinion. It really does the basic task and no option to batch process images, to my knowledge. Its slow to load images even with the iMac i9 processor, 1TB SSD drive, and 64GB of RAM installed. So my hopes are Canon will quickly get behind this with more efficient software development or at least share the technology so others can build faster workflow solutions. (3) The next challenge is finding a hosting platform that recognizes or allows the 180 format and/or limits the horizontal and vertical panning. Otherwise, your viewer may feel like they are in the meta verse viewing two versions of the same world plastered up next to each other but no difference. For me. It's the posting and sharing that can be viewed without oculus or google cardboard viewers. I want to see the single image that can pan horizontal and vertical for 180.

The software is revised; it now fully supports the m1 processor in Apple computers, which significantly speeds up the workflow. Most of the other updates are for video, including 8K RAW editing. You can shoot raw stiils, transform them to jpeg in your favorite editor and the Canon utility will work with your jpegs if you retain the same resolution and don't alter fisheye shapes.

I’m intrigued, I would like to know if there’s a photo option usage out of this lens? Does it shoot stereoscopic? That would be the deal breaker for me

I posted my experience with the lens for photography. Quite incredible quality of images but the workflow and sharing images is the struggle.

If I understand correctly, it uses half of the sensor for each side. I would have liked to see rather they captured video in 120p with alternating frames being left and right. That would give you a full sensor use at 60fps

I have been shooting 3D pictures and movies using FinePix REAL 3D W3. What is the advantage with the present Canon Fisheye dual lens? Are the images are saved MPO format or JPG/RAW format or both formats are available. Can the stereo images from Canon can be used in SPM or STVM softwares?
@markr041 Жыл бұрын
You can transform the still images to be anyway you want in SPM. SPM even describes the workflow. Easiest is to go from the dual fisheyes to equirectangular in the free Canon VR utility and the use SPM to make MPO's or sidebyside or whatever from the transformed images.

Can the Canon RF 5.2 f/2.8 L Dual fisheye lens can be used in other R mount Canon camera for still image or it only works in R5 Camera only?
@seriouzfilmz93972 жыл бұрын
Please someone answer this
@videomaker2 жыл бұрын
We believe its just for the R5. it requires a high resolution sensor to work as designed.

Some have attempted to use the R6 and said it worked, however, the warning pops up that the camera does not support the lens. It will produce the dual fisheye image in JPEG and RAW. Unfortunately, the EOS VR software does not recognize the image because the metadata was not encoded into the JPG file. Other software will not recognize it either.
