If you know anything about Heimdall, it's either because you're already a Norse Mythology fan or because you know him from the Marvel movies - aka you've seen Idris Elba portray him. Well... there is a lot of truth contained within Marvel's Heimdall, but it only scratches the surface of the mighty god. What the MCU does get right though is Heimdall's importance: This guy is the guardian of Asgard, watcher of the Bifröst, and... watcher of all things to be quite honest.
Norse Mythology's Heimdall also plays a major role in Ragnarök, has a forever feud with Loki, and also... had 9 mothers. No, not in the spiritual sense... literally 9 women gave birth to him, because his father Odin was on one. It's as confusing as it sounds, and it's a good way to kick of this episode on Heimdall The Watcher, Norse Mythology's sentinel, who has all the tools any passionate stalker would envy him for:
Episode 6 Of Keeping Up With The Norse Gods: A Stalker's Wet Dream - Heimdall
Subscribe For New Episodes Every Saturday & Wednesday
Notes:
Oh, Norse Mythology: How scattered you are. It's not only that the ancient Northmen (or is it Norsemen?) weren't exactly huge on documenting everything, it's also the fact that time wastes all, and Christians don't exactly like competition when it comes to beliefs... so over the many many centuries, Norse Mythology has become a collection of scattered texts that have been re-told and re-written over and over. With every god, there are many different versions that were told in various regions over various eras. For the sake of this video - and all my videos - I try to streamline these stories as much as possible and leave out some details, this might bother some, but it makes these videos more fun to watch. I don't want to get caught up in the details and lose sight of the bigger picture.
So... is this accurate and well researched? Absolutely, 100%. Is this the only interpretation or way of recounting the tales of Heimdall The Watcher? No, but subjectively speaking… it’s the way I like it the most.
Get All My Artwork & Support The Channel:
I get a lot of questions about my artwork and where it’s from or rather who draws it. Well the answer is that I create it - I don’t draw it. I use AI to create the artwork, using specific prompts, specific style influences from 18th and 19th century artists, and I spend about 6 hours per video just on the artwork. Each video has roughly double the artwork of what you actually see in the video, so a lot of it is unused. The good news here though is that you can get all that artwork on my Patreon - the artwork I do use, and the artwork I don’t use. Plus, by subscribing to my Patreon you are making a major contribution to Briefed and helping me to keep this channel going, because this is my full time job and the survival of the channel and quality of the videos greatly depends on said support. In return for supporting, you get more than the artwork though - you also get exclusive videos and producer credit, as well as access to a producer group that gets to vote on thumbnails, gets behind the scenes etc.
If you choose to become a Patron - thank you. I do not take it for granted.

Sources:
A lot of people ask me about my sources, and… to be honest, they are a mixed bag. One major source is my lifelong interest in storytelling and mythology. Another is the beautiful endless library that is the internet, and, third, I read the occasional book from time to time, which I’m happy to recommend to you, but also… I’m planning to write my own book on mythology, so, in due time the answer will be…:
Source? Me. Yay.

When Norse Mythology suddenly steps into the weirder creepier Greek Mythos. I mean if we take away Loki's mating choices and strategies and the children he sires. But Loki is the personification of Mischief and veers of off from the overly structured Aesir way of life so he gets a free pass.

The saddest part was realizing that today's weed is nowhere near as strong as the Norse had to make up a god with one father and 9 mothers. Lmao. Gotta love mythologies. The word/acronym Poc is really dehuminising to basically everyone, people are people. And giving people the title Poc just reduce humans to their skin colour..who else does this,...oh racist , when you say POC what your saying is white people dont have a colour, but we do, all you do using that term is promoting hate, and it will someday bite your in the ass.

It should be noted about the speculation towards the end that rather than destroy or “mess with other religions”. Christians such as monks often preserved Greco-Roman and Norse mythology as well as history. Tolkien was a devout Roman Catholic who was very well versed in Norse Mythology and could even speak Old Norse.

@@Toxicflash26 debatable, It all depends on who's gathering the info and telling the story. I believe that's one of the reasons we're on this particular page and not on the others. I read a little bit about the Nigerian myths, watched some poorly adapted stories based on other African deities and I feel like they all have a strong connection to the Egyptian mythologies. I've always been fascinated by these stories and how true they might be, how they all may give the same hints to the true origin of this world we strive through.

Another excellent video! One note about Heimdall being "The Whitest of The Gods"(Hvitastr Asa in Old Norse) White was actually a term to describe nobility and physical attractiveness. They didn't use White/Black the way we use it today. They more concerned with Class and Beauty than ethnicity. If you were pale and fair it was a status symbol that you didn't have to work outside like the lower classes. So MCU Heimdall is accurate representation in that he's being played by Idris Elba, a very handsome man. Thank you for coming to my TedTalk
