Let's talk about Genghis Khan. Finally. One of the most feared and famous men in history, which... I guess would make him the most infamous man in history. Genghis Khan established the Mongol Empire, which, at its peak - which notably came after Genghis Khan's time - was bigger than the Roman Empire ever was. Way bigger. So if you're thinking about Rome a couple times a day, maybe it's time to sprinkle some Genghis Khan and Mongol Empire in there. Genghis Khan has some feats to his name, that sound like they are entirely out of an anime, but that's exactly what makes him one of history's most unique people to ever exist. Was Genghis Khan evil? Was Genghis Khan good? I lean towards evil, but ultimately, that's not for me to decide - and I'm about 800 years late to that discussion anyway. Still, this video will shine a light on both sides of the man born as Temüjin and also known Chinggis Khan. From Temüjin's birth, to Genghis Khan's death... I cover it all in this video on the father of the Mongol Empire:
Episode 2 of 'Blood - The Period(s) Of Conquerors: Genghis Khan'
Subscribe For New Episodes Every Saturday
Notes:
If you follow my channel, you know I currently cover both history and mythology. With mythology, these videos are often a puzzle to piece together, because sources are scattered, and often unreliable. With history, this changes drastically: A lot of sources are ironclad. But... Genghis Khan is kind of the exception to the rule, because the man was notoriously private. That means we don't know much about his personal life, and we don't even really know what the man looks like. Due to that, many people default to Genghis Khan having dark hair and a dark beard, but most accounts of his depiction are very biased or flat out propaganda. The only non-biased piece of description of Genghis Khan's appearance that is unbiased and purely written for the sake of describing what he looks like to a messenger... that account actually states that Genghis Khan had red hair and green eyes. Thus, this is the look I went with for this video. Of course, this can not be confirmed, so you are free to draw your own conclusions. Also keep in mind that history is written by the winners, and rewritten by sore losers, so with a conqueror such as Genghis Khan was... a lot of the facts are forever lost to the time. And if you want to know more about Genghis Khan's mysterious grave, then let me know. Maybe we'll do a special. Maybe I'll even try to find it and take you on the journey with me... who knows.

One of my favorite retelling of his invasion of Persia was a comparison to a boxing match between two new prodigies. Two growing empires, led by what was perceived as the two most prolific leaders and generals of their era, going head to head for the first time. And before the match, both sides are seen as having a chance of getting away with the W. Until the fight starts, and one fighter proves himself to be in a completely different category.

@@Briefed_Mythology Not only was that account from Persia came 300 years later, it was highly mistranslated. In the original text it didn't mention him having red hair at all, it actually mean his skin being red (from all that sunlight exposure). There's also a portrait made by his own grandson Kublai Khan who saw him when he was kid and there's no red hair or blue eyes. People who ignore that portrait and keep repeating the mistranslation are either very ignorant or just white supremacists.

The Chinese have written records from during the Mongol occupation of Mongol’s bringing in people with different colored eyes from other parts of the empire to China, so it seems they definitely would have made note of Chinggus having unusual colored eyes as well if this were a known fact. The Chinese would have no reason to leave that bit out considering they saw the Mongols as foreign invaders anyway.

Mongols are decendants from the same Aryan empire so makes sense. Given they are very culturally and racially distant. It wasn't until after sacking China they genetically changed due to how many women they took. Just so you're aware the Aryans came from central Asia between the Urals and Altai. Red hair is native to the Urals and travelled west. So hope this helps.

@@hez859 🤔 right so the chinese source making him look and be Chinese is more accurate? You do realize his father's tribe was know for having grey eyes right? Everyone wants to claim the Mongols to be something other than a step people native to the Altai mountains. Explain to me why is it Scythians, Tocharians, Huns, Pecheneges, Avars, Turks, and Bulgars all have these features but some how the Mongols don't? They are all decendants of the same tribes of people. Did you know Uyghur descend from the same stock to? Central asians are diffrent from Chinese and other eastern asians as they descend from diffrent tribes of people in the neolithic. Did Ghengis Khan have red hair and green eyes? Possibly but the only direct characteristic ascribed to him is being tall, burly, with wavy hair and a thick beard.

I believe to be truly great in this world you have to be open minded. Yet as Jordan Peterson said "you must also be a monster." And maybe this world wouldn't be in such a tragic tragic state if we just took a couple more lessons from this guy. It seemed that respect honor and loyalty mattered more than anything else, and today those are some of the rarest qualities we see in humans, everybody's always trying to f*** over the next person cut the next person's throat do anything they can to cut one person out and in reality if we stood next to each other loyal and honest the world would not be in shambles with idiots and horrible evil people running the world, into the ground. Much like Khan everybody is so quick to demonize people rather than learn from them. Genghis Khan never attacked anyone unprovoked. One might argue that he answered these provocations disproportionately, but he never just attacked anyone strictly for his own gain. It was always in response to a perceived dis. He also valued power over wealth, because, based on his observations, with power, one could always acquire wealth, but wealth could not buy you power (ah, the good old days…). Thusly, he left most of the plunder to his army, which made them happy, & loyal. LEGEND. ✌🏼

Those were some cold lines. "If you conquer from West to East, you're great like Alexander. If you conquer from East to West you're a barbarian like Genghis Khan" but so true in a Western historical standpoint.

The reason Ghengis Khan doesn’t have a moniker like, “the Great”, or “the Conquerer” is the same reason why Augustus Caesar, Napoleon Bonaparte don’t - and the same reason Alexander and Kang do. Last names. Not surnames, but a second name that both distinguishes them and makes them sound distinguished. It has nothing to do with “White Washing”. For further evidence, I point to 14:15 in your own video. Ghengis Khan comes with a cool moniker included.

@@temujin5743 It actually does refer to him, Genghis Khan, the thing is that the study that originated this rumor (as it is not proven with certanty yet) was conducted it the late 90's. However, the study does link a great population of modern men to a single ancestor that lived about approximately 1000 years ago in what we recognize today as territory that was part of the mongolian empire, like todays Mongolia, Pakistan, China, Russia, among other modern countries. So yes, even if it wasn't Genghis Khan, it was definitely one man, and that on itself is cazy af.

You know any tall green eyes red hair Asians with a Christian wife? Even to this day, I NEVER seen a green eye Asian with red hair, that only means one thing… What nation has the largest population of green eyes and red hair? Its a REALLY white nation that has those traits

I always understood The Great Khan to have Turkic ancestry... To get a description of Ghengis Khan, look at the Tarim Basin Mummies. They all have red/blond hair with green/blue eyes. Same with the Ainu of Japan. This doesn't mean they are "white" in the western sense, but definitely have similar ancient ancestors such as the Yamnaya or the Andronova culture. You have to take into account the historical records have been altered during Russian and Chinese Communist revolutions. So its not all "whitewashing" as you say. The Uyghurs are descendants of The Great Khan. Look how they are treated today in China.

My guy, the whole red hair/green eyes thing is something not entirely uncommon to claim by asian rulers to seem 'unique' or 'otherwordly' and more worthy of being the ruler. For example, the chinese emperor of Wu, Sun Quan, was described to have a purple beard and green/blue eyes.

Thracians. Mercenaries . Used by Greeks, Egyptians, Assyrians, Babylonians, they had no loyalty to any nation, could be on Assyrian side , and then Babylonian side - but always Mercenaries - Red haired and Green Eyed,, alot became rulers, Kings, Queens,, Boodica for instance,, Sythians .. They never themselves became an Empire, but colonised in every land.

Mongolia borders Russia, the border being effectively a melting-pot in the past, so I don't doubt that some Mongols had red or probably Auburn hair, and eyes colored other than brown, just as many otherwise "white" Slavs of Russia, have wide Asiatic cheekbones even though blonde and blue eyed.
