I just did the swap on my 2015 q50 3.7 premium, the stock drive shaft is to long but fits by lowering the diff but there is no play and caused a loud rattle. I’m in the process of finding a solution. the shifter also needs to be modified as it doesn’t fully go into park and needs to be turned on in neutral (key system error)

So what up with all these forums saying the vr30 tcm would not work if you use it on a g37/g35/370z because their ECU(vq) won’t recognize the TCM Can’t the dealer just put a g37 tcm program on the vr30 TCM like they normally do when updating the tcm software

Appreciate you putting this info out there. I too was under the impression you had to swap the TCM over from the original trans. When keeping the VR TCM did you have to reprogram it to the car? Or was it really just the bellhousing that needs modified, and using everything else from the VR? Looking at doing this swap soon so any insight is appreciated.

No programming needed for the vr valve body it’s plug and play. Just the bell housing needed to modified.

It’s normal it’s the cats rattling the vr30 doesn’t support the cats like the VHR trans. The Vr30 shifts faster than the VHR you just gotta get used to it

It’s an automatic transmission with real gears as opposed to a CVT with a belt, drums and teeth, so even though they’re both “automatic” they operate completely differently and the CVT is notorious for being a bomb under power.

Ngl not tryna call you a lair but I tried to do the same thing n it didn’t fit bc the bell housing didn’t have a cut for the crank sensor n the bolts pattern didn’t line up they where off by a couple centimeters and the torque converter isn’t the same bc the 3.7 is NA so it’s a low stall n the 3.0 is a boasted ( obviously ) n it’s a mid stall and acouple more things didn’t align,, that’s the reason they changed problem 3k bc they didn’t tell you all the things they had to do maybe idk but I tired n failed

Not all car people want to kick a clutch. And then think about actually doing it while it also is your first time driving a manual transmission car in general. The whole process of teaching yourself how to drive a manual car, on top of applying and adapting it into your day to day life is going to take some time depending on how quick you learn how to do it. I have an 04 g35 coupe with a vq35hr and a manual swap. And I was used to driving my gs300, and the g with autos.

I’ve driven manual enough that in traffic as long as you know what you’re doing everything is all good. I just plan my route ahead of time to avoid traffic as much as possible

Swapping from a troublesome CVT to a traditional automatic makes plenty sense to me
