@videocruzer the entire sim as whole needs all the servers working. It's not like 2020.. that will still work if you're offline. The sim literally will not run as most of the core files are online.

@@jeremycovelli the servers that hold the client are not the servers that hold the cloud data that you need to play the game. One of those is a 30gb file needed by EVERYONE. the other is a 7.7 petabyte array needed in smaller amounts in various different size chunks. Very different server architecture and hardware, if the download servers go down, you will still be able to play.

Mostly looking forward to the new ground detail and water physics. For an avid bush flyer who flies low and slow a lot and likes to do a ton of off airport landings FS2020 was always a bit lacking in that department, with the pixelated and half transparend 2D sprite trees and the blurry/wonky edges of rivers. That should be a MAJOR step up.

I'm currently very happy with msfs2020 in VR using my QPro/i913900k/rtx4090/32Gb 6400 ram with the official link cable connected to my z790mb usb3.2 gen2 type-c port at 650mbps encoding bitrate. I'm sure I'll upgrade to 2024 in the near future but I'm going to hold off until I see if my current favorite sceneries can be used and/or upgraded to ok. For 2020 I went with Premium Deluxe, but this time I may go for standard then upgrade to Premium Deluxe. Does anyone know what the pricing is for upgrades from Standard. It would be nice to see how much more I would end up paying for upgrading to each version from Standard. Sort of a way to pay in two or three payments.

I am going to hold off on the purchase, I remember MSFS2020 and the dial up download speeds and the months no years of bugs The main thing for me is VR performance, if its not supported or not as good the the current version no way I will be downloading. There is no preload yet, and no one knows if there will be. All you can do is download the launcher/installer that will enable you to download the sim later on.

May I ask a silly question, Niroop, since I've been 'out of the loop' for a while? When I preordered FS2024, I was required to set up an Xbox account. This worried me a bit because I was trying to buy the PC version, not the Xbox version. But now you are talking about having an Xbox app on our PCs. Can you explain what is going on here, please? I don't even have (or want) an Xbox.

I had this experience too. They have you by the short hairs as the xBox acct. is necessary. Bite the bullet and make an account. I banged my head on the wall for 3 days trying to avoid it for MSFS 2020.

No worries Marianne, it's not a silly question at all! 😊 So when you preordered FS2024 and were asked to set up an Xbox account, it was because Microsoft has integrated their gaming services across both Xbox consoles and PCs. Even though you’re getting the PC version, setting up an Xbox account is required to access the game via the Microsoft Store, which is where FS2024 is being sold. The Xbox app on PC is a platform that helps you manage and launch your games on Windows. You don’t need an actual Xbox console to use it! So, to clarify, you can still enjoy the PC version of FS2024 without owning an Xbox. The Xbox account and app just help manage the purchase and installation, and they offer additional features like tracking achievements and connecting with other gamers. Hope that clears things up! 😊

No reason why it shoudn't. FS2024 will use a Community folder, just like FS2020 does. All that AddOn Linker does is comfortably create and delete folder shortcuts for you that point to another folder on your drives. That is something that you can also do manually without Addon Linker, if need be.

No, I wouldn't delete MSFS2020 prior to installing MSFS2024. I'd recommend keeping 2020 installed until the new marketplace is up and the new sim is proven to be stable enough for you.

No one can preinstall the game at this time. It's just the launcher/installer that you can download right now. No idea if you can do that on Steam, but I wouldn't bother right now.

What are you talking about? All the previous World Updates are part of the default scenery in FS2024 and will be streamed by demand like the rest of the game world. It's all still there, just without the need to install hundreds of gigabytes locally without actively using them.

I‘m ready to get disappointed again. MSFS 2020 was the worst flight „sim“ in terms of physics. And also the worst performance in VR. Lets see how they will perform this time. Half the video was about the necessity to "pre-install" a placeholder file onto your harddisk if your internet speed was slow, WTF dude 🤣! A couple of good points, though the My Library will show access to all existing content and allow you to download to your local disk and the Game as a Service GaaS means issues from launch day will continue to be addressed. I'm expecting at least a monthly cadance of SIM Update patches although the holiday period could updset this intially - be suprised if there wasn't a patch before the years out though as there will be issues.

Non existent damage model. No popped tires or bent landing gear, etc. No danger when landing, taking off since planes and ground vehicles go right through you. Why even bother looking around. Argument that Airplane manufacturers don't want scratches on their planes does not hold water. Forza, Gran Turismo all have visual damage models. F-18, F-14 and other military planes, you can blow them up in DCS World. Boeing and Lockheed Martin don't seem to have a problem with it. Microsoft focused on character creation and fashion to wear. Physics and damage models are significantly lacking in comparison to DCS World and X Plane 12. This one is a glorified Google Earth Simulator with Sims elements thrown in for good measure.
