as you know the Indonesian Archipelago consists of more than 17000 islands, there are more than 700 regional languages, 300 ethnic groups, where each region is different from each other both in language, customs, regional clothing, cultural traditions, regional food, even in physical appearance in some different regions, but all ethnic groups in Indonesia speak Indonesian for communication between different ethnic groups, that is the motto of the Indonesian nation is BHINEKA TUNGGAL IKA which means Divers in Unity, ... currently the population of Indonesia is 280 million people which is the 4th most populous after India, China and the USA, and 65% of the population of Indonesia, live on the island of Java, and the population of Indonesia is 85% Muslim except in Bali the population is 90% Hindu .... so Indonesia is very diverse, it can be said to be unique, you can find from traditional natural beauty to high end modern in Indonesia

It's simple, just enjoy our country, very safe for everyone to travel around Indonesia, if you feel lost just ask people you met then they are mostly willing to help.. as simple as that!

All Indonesian can speak and understand Bahasa Indonesia and also commonly spoken, as it's serves as our lingua franca. A bit of context about Sundanese and Javanese: We have regions with hundreds of different tribes, each with its own unique local language (not just dialects, as they are mutually unintelligible, such as Minang, Batak, Dayak, Makassar, Balinese, etc). Sunda and Java happen to be two of the largest tribes in terms of population originating from Java Island, which is why you are most likely to encounter these spoken languages, but they are not the typical second languages that the rest of Indonesians speak.
