Apocalypse has already left the astral plane, he is free. He took the body of Fabian Cortez at the end of Season 5 episode 5: The 5th Horseman.

It should be on "The Fifth Horseman" episode. Final Season. Fabian Cortez started the ceremony with Jubilee as the sacrifice but he was saved by Beast with Caliban's help and escaped. The ceremony continued with Fabian Cortez, apologizing to Apocalypse that he has no vessel for him. But Apocalypse said there is, and he merged with Fabian Cortez as his vessel.

In Season 5, Apocalypse returned by taking Fabian Cortez's body (Season 5, Episode 9 or 10). This transpired in the 90's cartoon, I'm not sure how Apocalypse returns in the comics, but it's probably the same way.

Here's my X-Men checklist as preparation for X-Men 97: X-Men shirt: ✔️ X-Men comics: ✔️ X-Men Marvel Legends figures: ✔️ Only thing not checked: X-Men Epic Collections and Collected Edition Volumes Also, I'm excited to see what's going to happen in X-Men 97 especially since Madelyne Pryor is going to be one of the villains in the show alongside Mr. Sinister. I hope they'll adapt the story arcs from the X-Men comics such as Inferno, Mutant Massacre, Fall of the Mutants, Fatal Attractions, and Project Zero Tolerance. And Remember: Apocalypse did escape the astra plane by possessing the body of Fabian Cortez.

I was a teenager and a huge X-Men fan when this cartoon came out. My friends and I absolutely hated Morph since he was created for the cartoon, and he felt shoehorned into the story. We felt that since they were doing comic stories where Morph never existed, they didn't need to create any new characters. I know a lot of fans like him.
