I had another question about timing of taking down the electric fence. I take down the electric fence when I want deer to start using that plot. For example, I have two 1.5 acre plots of beans and corn at my cabin farm. One plot I release in late summer when I plant my fall green plots, the other I release in early December. This way I have grains available all fall and into winter covering all of my seasons.

I had a question earlier about when and what I overseed into my beans. I have only had consistent luck with overseeding winter rye into my soybeans and I do it right when the beans start to yellow.

Doesn't planting a longer maturing variety make it harder to overseed rye because they stay green longer?

Yes it does. I don't plant beans for the green, I plant them for grain. I have other plots that function as my green sources. I overseed for cover cropping purposes, nutrient scavenging, weed control for next year, etc. Make sense?

Local co-op, feed store, etc. That's why I stress just get it close because it's not always easy to find what you want.

100 lbs is what I've used. Poorer soil, 150 lbs.
