Have you tried crimping your beans. That's our method this year in South MO. Broadcast fall blend in, then crimp the beans. Allows for great light to get in and good seed to soil contact!

We don’t even try beans anymore. It’s cowpeas for us. Best decision we ever made because of the high deer density we have.

Well I'm definitely a firm beleaver in u,the barriers made the deer have to come into the plot to see what was there & between that food plot & the others I saw we watched so many deer feeding on the greens i would say was unbelievable but I had privalage of seeing it first hand & it was totally awsome just outa this world, that is the most deer I've ever got to watch feed while hunting ever & I'm defanately gonna plant some greens,I dont have an area that big but I've got several small areas close to each other I can plant & I intend on doing that very soon too, thanks again for the most exciting hunt I've ever been on what a blast!!!!! & I look forward to more of ur videos on planting & hunting, happy huntin to u & be safe

Great video Steve. I always like doing rolls in standing corn or beans give the deer sense of cover and allows you to get away with little more.

I was also thinking about overseeding a fall blend last fall in my beans as they started to "yellow" but it was getting way to late in the season to plant anything else (just before frost in mid October in west Ky). Perhaps if beans are put out really early they might "yellow" by early September, but sometimes its early to mid June before I can plant beans. I'm really starting to think the advice on this video is the solution and the best answer. Great job!!

I live in Breckinridge Co and tried cereal rye this past fall. I planted in mid October and it came up great and has stayed green all winter. I was very impressed. The deer have kept in looking like the greens of a golf course.

We plant forage soybeans for spring-summer forage then no till drill a mix of clovers, brassicas, rye and wheat into it 45 days before first frost. The no till drill does terminate all the soybeans, but gets that seed into the soil. We have unreal results doing this. There is not a better spring- summer forage than forage soybeans in my opinion.

Great video love the pro con. PA here so a bit north of you. Would love input for a property I'm managing. Small 22 acres but it has serious potential. Creek 3 fields and woods. Surrounded by woods. I cant hold the deer with the acreage but I would like to make it the best that I can to draw them in.

Honestly food plots are great but they are a bonus. Check put some of my timber management videos. At the end of the video I have my link for how to grow deer videos. Edge feathering and some tsi will go a long ways on holding deer and providing a ton of food and cover

Yes great Food plots you have and Soybeans is a very good planting seed but it may not be the best thing but they have been working great for you and mixing in some other seeds makes it happen also on your food plot Truly a great layout keep up the great work! really appreciate all the great info and sharing this great video God bless!

Love seeing the pros and cons. Just a question for ya. Have you ever tried broadcasting your greens into yellow beans? I know time is of the essence late summer for the greens and planting beans depends on the weather early summer. So the timing depends on Mother Nature, Year to year it varies. Has there been a difference if you if you have? I’m just trying to figure this out for myself. Thank you for all the great videos.

Soybeans are a bad fit for most properties. Unless you have lots of acreage it usually gets over browsed. Even with a fence. Imo One or two acres of beans doesn’t give you the return on your investment even if things go perfectly. In my situation I either have corn or soybean Ag close by so I never plant either forage. I never understand why guys waste time planting what is available already on a large scale. People want the flashy crop they see on TV with 200 inch deer walking around in broad daylight. Most would be way further ahead to just plant a work horse like cereal grain rye. Just spray and plant, grows anywhere. Doesn’t get over browsed and is there when everything else is gone. Bonus is it’s the first thing to green up when deer need greens the most after a hard winter. It’s ready to go long before perennial clover.

If you plant in strips with beans suggest a electric fence around it or you won’t have any beans left in those strips might be better off and continue like you did last year and cut the strips once the beans are established. You know deer are lazy just like people and you give them lanes to walk down they are going to use those and walk down and turn your strips into nothing at all before they have a chance to grow.

Good suggestion Josh. Strips of beans sure would be easy pickins for the deer in that layout and the cool season strips would be mostly idle until August/September. I'll take your thoughts into consideration. (Does Kapper Outdoors know you are commenting on here?) lol

clark wheeler LOL. Hope he knows. I’ll still have to show him how to operate an electric fence though. Seemed he had quite the issues LOL
