I picked up the graded readers for Japanese schoolchildren and find them challenging enough. What I also did: I purchased Sailormoon in Japanese and read it with my German version as a "dictionary". I still struggle with the vocab in Japanese but having the German back-up is amazing and soothing. I can always fall back in case of uncertainty.

I've been self studying Japanese for 19mos. Mostly thru reading and watching native shows. The only thing that I'm still struggling when reading and listening is katana words. It's keep breaking my momentum and most of the time the sound doesn't make sense and difficult to guess😅 The key is consistency. You need to read everyday so you won't forget the reading and meaning of kanji. Eventually, you'll start to hear those words when watching native contents.

I loved it. I've been feeling that I need to read in Japanese more, but had no idea where to start in other ways than reading texts directed at native Japanese speakers. Your video filled some gaps in an organized way and I'll check out your recommendations. Take care! 🌸

Thank you so much for your information on reading Japanese books. I’m using Duolingo and I love the game and repetition it gives me to learn the language and getiting used to Kana and now Kanji. From a far, I always thought the language was difficult but like all things if you start small iand stay consistent, learning the language feels fun thanks to the 'game nature’ Duolingo provides the learner. Your information is sooo useful and I can’t wait to read all the books I’ve collected over the years and the ones I have no idea about, yet!! Thanks for the video and keep them coming!!

Awesome video! This maybe a little bit controversial, but Google translate (photo function) is actually pretty awesome for a quick translation. Sometimes I just don't have energy to search 'compound kanji words' individually, especially if I do not know furigana. Furthermore, I am not sure if this counts as reading, but visual novels are also neat source of reading practice. It is way easier with voice acting and visual images to accompany the text. Recently finished Starry Sky and I feel huge jump in my vocab and overall comprehension.
@arinoyumeАй бұрын
No no it’s not controversial I think! Google translate can be good to understand a text but not to learn how to read, unless you’re using it to check your understanding of a text 🤗 and as for visual novels, they definitely count as reading!! However since those usually contain spoken Japanese (which is not exactly grammatically correct and contains lots of idioms) they do not tend to be recommend to beginners ✨🤗 this is a generalisation however and you can definitely find things that are more literal and easier to understand (especially with the help of the images like you said ☺️)

@arinoyumeАй бұрын
This is the vocabulary book 15歳までに知っておきたい言葉1800! this is a book for Japanese teenagers (between 13 and 17) with lots of vocab around N1 and N1+ level! This was only for illustration that I inserted this b-roll in this video because it is not a book for beginners 🤗

do you use ereaders like a kindle when reading Japanese books? I wanted to know if there’s a sort of middle ground from satori reader to a physical book where I can still use a dictionary but without the amount of help satori reader gives 😖

Yes I use the kindle app connected to the Japan Amazon bookstore!
