Thank you SO much. This made my day. My 1430 quit on me today so I’m not only needing a new printer but a new rip app.

Any issues with printing ever? I have the uv black out ink/ refillable cartridges as well and sometimes I’ll get inconsistent prints. Faded areas. Typically at the top or bottom of the print even after thoroughly cleaning the heads.

@dalecooke6644 I had that more with the DMAX kit than I have with the current kit I got from filmdirectonline.com I also found that I get that sometimes when then ink gets low too so refilling them has helped me

I've been looking all over for some suggestions for a cheapish printer that will handle transparencies gracefully. My needs are a bit different--I make cyanotypes and do a bit of alternative photography techniques, so I suspect fully UV opaque inks wouldn't work as well for me. I also would like it do mid-tier photo printing. It looks like, for the price, this is the perfect printer for me (aside: when I was little, my dad had his own print shop and did a lot of screen printing. I was probably the only 5-year-old who knew the word squeegee. I miss it sometimes, but for now, I have too many hobbies as it is)

Do you need to do double layer printing with this printer to block UV light? Thanks.
@startupscreenprinting
@startupscreenprinting 2 ай бұрын
actually since this printer is a high quality photo printer, you don't actually HAVE to have uv ink to get a pretty great film positive, but it helps to use a rich black color in photoshop/illustrator when printing the films. I do, however, have the black dye conversion kit that i discussed in the video and it works even better than regular ink and it has the UV blocking properties. But even without it, you can typically get by with just a single film and rarely, if ever, need to double layer with this type of printer.

@@startupscreenprinting Interesting thanks for the reply. I guess I should use this printer. I do know I have canon pixma IPX which I bought 8 years ago. So just to confirm, with the Epson printer you first started out, if you used high quality UV blocking inks, was it able to block UV light with just one film print and not requiring to use double layers?
@startupscreenprinting
@startupscreenprinting 2 ай бұрын
@ShopperPlug if you use a printer that’s capable of running UV blocking dye, then you shouldn’t have to double layer. Even with regular ink if the printer is a high quality photo printer you shouldn’t have to double layer on most things.

@@startupscreenprinting Thanks for the reply. Understood. For the Epson printer, which uv blocking inks would you recommend that is the best? Dmax or from Fill Direct or something else?
@startupscreenprinting
@startupscreenprinting 2 ай бұрын
@ShopperPlug from my experience I’ve actually had better results with the dye from film direct than the dmax. I found that the dmax didn’t block as much and it clogged the heads more often.

You replace all colors with all black ink and has to be the new cartridges. Then you just refill them as needed

@@startupscreenprinting Thanks for the response man! I have a few more questions if you don't mind. If I wanted to switch back & forth between colored cartridges & the black cartridges, is it possible? what would the maintenance look like for that?
@startupscreenprinting
@startupscreenprinting 5 ай бұрын
@avoidclothingco theoretically you could. But the concern would be that the ink leaks out of the cartridges pretty easily when they’re out of the printer after you’ve already installed them so, I think it could be a bit messy if you were switching back and forth. Aside from that, I’m not sure what the repercussions would be for running the different types of ink through the print heads occasionally, I could imagine there would be some leftover once you switched back to color in the cartridge or in the print head so that your colors would be somewhat skewed for the first several prints. Does that make sense? Hope that’s helpful.
@avoidclothingco
@avoidclothingco 5 ай бұрын
@@startupscreenprinting Very helpful! I assume the print heads would need to be cleaned externally and through the printer settings every time the cartridges are being switched out. 🤔

For some reason the films just feed through the printer without printing.. Any idea why I'm getting this issue?
@startupscreenprinting
@startupscreenprinting 5 ай бұрын
Hmm without knowing your settings and such it’s hard to say. Make sure the correct paper type and size is selected and that the print software is installed and RIP installed if you’re using one. Not sure what else could be going on but I’d start there
@rmw603

I have the same issue. Sometimes 3 or 4 sheets will go through at a time.
@startupscreenprinting
@startupscreenprinting 5 ай бұрын
@rmw603 I would only load 1 sheet at a time. These types of printers don’t do well at separating film sheets and only pulling one in at a time, so I only put 1 in there, then when it starts printing, I add a second one if I’m printing multiple films.
