I disagree that Hammer fans only watch one a week. I think many of his followers watch every episode for at least 20 minutes, and depending on the guest may or may not finish. Hammer audits are definitely a routine on my algorithm and I click and watch every one

As a licensed professional counselor, I often find people come to counseling so that they can be validated in their bad choices and excuses to continue in their bad behavior, because of their past trauma. I always validate their trauma, but I refuse to excuse their bad behaviors and let them continue in them. Yes, this terrible thing happened to you and you need to acknowledge it and heal from it, but it does not excuse you to continue in your bad behavior. It’s your responsibility to take the steps to heal and make better choices for your life regardless of past traumas.

That makes so much sense when I try to hold people accountable to their bad behavior and they'll make excuses about it, but when I'm venting about my issues, they weaponize therapy and tell me my therapist is doing a bad job. I think it’s a grief process. It’s like, they’re in the denial stage. First you’re angry because you didn’t deserve it and you shouldn’t have to deal with the consequences of what someone else did to you. Then you’re in denial that you have to do the work. Then acceptance. Then you do the work. Idk the stages of grief. I do know anger and denial and acceptance are in there.

I have a great work life balance and get to spend a lot of time with my wife and focus on my hobbies. I found the topic of financial anxiety SO INTERESTING between you three. It’s crazy to me that you could make an average American salary and feel financially insecure, and that insecurity doesn’t necessarily subside once you jump through the tax brackets. Doesn’t matter if your household income is $100k or $100 mil, you will always find something to worry about if you are predisposed to anxiety.
@Draggonny
@Draggonny 3 ай бұрын
The goals shift as you make more money. I've been there. My husband and I have gone from being a single income household to a two income household. Our income is higher than ever. We've gone from struggling to afford food and heat to worrying about car maintenance and home maintenance, to worrying about retirement. We have less to worry about so you go from worrying about the surprise bill that has just hit, to the one that might hit, to what's going to happen if you get sick or when you get old. It goes from the right now to the distant future and hypotheticals. It's a useful anxiety because it means we save for retirement and build an emergency fund. We can survive a temporary unemployment or an unexpected bill and hopefully that won't change when we can no longer work. If you don't prepare for what might happen, if it does happen you'll be massively set back financially. Low level anxiety exists for a reason, but if it's crippling anxiety you go get medical help.

I love this convo, and as far as how people are comfortable with 100's of thousands of debt, I truly dont think they can fathom that amount of money. If you offer someone 100k they would probably feel rich but that same person being told they owe 100k they may not even sweat it. I like putting my spending into the perspective of my income. 100k may not sound like much to some people but say they make 40k annually. Thats 2.5 years of straight income; no taxes, no bills, no food, no basic life needs. If you are saving 1/4 of your income thats 10 years of no saving just paying on debt. I feel like putting things in those terms really helps me understand the gravity of the debt.

Also, Caleb - you probably won't read this, but you really don't need to bother with your own 10 step program. The Money Guys FOO aligns really well with your style, and I think it's the best one out there. Much better than Ramsey's baby steps.

What helped me start making big changes was to just look at activities as what they mean and not a load of work. Instead of saying "Im going to the gym and doing long sessions of uncomfortable work" I know say to myself "I am going to a place to improve my health, my physical aesthetic". I was looking at work activities as work, something difficult and uncomfortable instead of appreciating the activity and that it is the path to my sucesses

I'm glad you talked about how people are trying to use mental health as an excuse for their poor spending habits. Yes, I'm sure it plays a good part, but they can't just keep falling on that and not do anything to improve it.

I watched the solar sales video. I was looking forward to it since it was teased on the podcast. I liked it, maybe it didn't do well because of the title, when I did door to door for internet sales. All of the door to door videos I searched for had little to no views. I think it was cool to see you out of the studio. great video.

I'm so happy others have said the same things. First, I absolutely LOVE these crossovers, it's really refreshing to hear a conversation amongst financially sound folks talking advice and feedback, it's overall a really good episode everytime. Second, I agree Caleb posting 3x a week is a good amount, no need to post less. I went on a binge and watched all of Caleb's episodes in roughly a month or two so I look forward to the new episodes every week, the different personas and different financial situations give a good mind opening experience. Overall whatever is decided I support but I am one of the ones who would still watch 3 different hour long episodes every week! 😊
