I've been hearing this ringing noise in my ears since the last 3 months it started back in december and it started after i used earphones with high volume for a music project i was doing since then 'til now the sound is still there and i have no hearing problem and i can't also hear this noise when i'm not focusing on it i can only hear it when i lay my head down on a pillow or when it's completely silent..i also saw an ent and he told me i have a bit of earwax and long term use of headphones and other loud devices can cause this but he didn't tell me if it would go away..what should i do?

Sometimes ENT's don't give you the full understanding of what's happening. They are surgeons and that's their job. You need to talk to an Audiologist. We are in Tulsa. Do you want to come see us?

Good post. The last I heard is 50m Americans have Tinnitus. Up to a billion world wide. Then sub groups. Anxiety and depression certainly exacerbates it. Diet can but cannot too. Everyone is different. It's your emotional response to it. Try not to accommodate it. Yes sleep is the worst or quiet rooms. Hyperacusis is evil too.

Dr, I would like to ask if a tinnitus caused by using earphone in only one instance can be permanent or temporary? Last 5days ago, it so happen that I use the ear phone upon answering a call from a friend for 40minutes, and it's raining, so unconsciously and didn't realize that I raise up the volume so I can hear . After 3 hours, tinnitus started. For 2 days, it is so loud and continuous and it's like there is a whistle bomb inside my left ear. On the third day, ear pain and pressure started, and the volume of the tinnitus decreases, but still it is continuous... Is there a possibility that my tinnitus is just temporary? Thank you...

If Tinnitus doesn't go away in a few hours (about 12), then it may be permanent. You need an evaluation by an Audiologist! Sorry.

I have tinnitus way before I really discovered I had it ,because I been hearing this same ringing years before long years ago ,I thought it was some type of frequency coming from the wall ,but the last 2 years after I when to a studio that night it was so loud I ask my wife if she heard that ringing her reply what ringing I don’t hear anything then I cover my ears I heard it in my right ear only ,been dealing with it ,this is the worst thing ever I wish this on not even my worst enemy,at first I cry ,cry feel like I was dying I when to the ,ears,nose ,and throat doctor did a MRI say nothing wrong inside my ears,now I watch this video I think I know what cause my tinnitus because one of my jaw bone is bigger than the other from I was a baby until now my face got a little twist to it ,.so probably that’s the cause my own get so loud when I eat salty stuff or certain foods,I learn how to cope with it but it’s really sucks when it mess with my sleep.

Brought this up with pcp.she hardly addressed it. Very frustrating. I went to hearing doctor they said its nerve damage in the ears. And the ringing cannot be helped.. Hearing aids may be only way
