Wow I didn't realize Shane had a tumor removed and it was that size, man that would be like carrying big triplets and then some ! You are doing everything you can for help, not to many would even bother now. Cat parts in the sinks minor, try smuggling a diesel tractor flywheel in the freezer in a black garbage bag. I was trying to shrink it some, so when I heated the new ring gear it slipped on a bit easier. Apparently women are smart enough to know it wasn't a 16" pizza, and I didn't dare try to put the ring gear in the oven and get caught after that !. Thanks for the update on Shane and all you are doing for him and the video's for us, Take care .

Good "how to" / upgrade video on the hydraulic rams / cylinders, Jeff ! Always good to spend the extra time & money to do the job correctly. I've done similar grease fitting / bearing installs on the equipment I work on, that the factory conveniently left out, where there should have been the ability to lube the parts. Also the seal upgrades are again always a good idea in trying to build in some redundancy & longevity. Thanks for your time, effort & for sharing ! Hope the judge makes the correct & compassionate decision in Shane's case. You have really gone the extra mile for Shane !! Really enjoyed the video !!

45 years for those hoses is damn good, the cheap ones that you get today will never last that long. I run a 1972 950 CAT loader that still has half of the original cat hoses on it. That 950 has turned out to be bulletproof!!!

I got 15 yrs Hydr Cyl. Repair, Wanted to give you (maybe) some helpful thoughts. about 16:30 had to blow that rod out. First off, I used Rigid brand pipe chain vise on my repair tables. To hold the cylinders when rebuilding. Turn the vise upside down before installing (REMOVE) the sharp vise JAWS. So not to cut into the barrel. Afterwards (if) had a stuck rod or over blown piston seal. Roll the cylinder over with port pointed downward into a 5gal bucket to catch oil. IF won't move with air, After draining oil into bucket. REMOVE bolts. Carry cylinder outside and Attach a water fitting, From a pressure washer and extend rod slowly till it blows out. rinse the barrel with solvent. Cletrac 12c pointed out about nut needed to be tightened 2400 ft lbs, If you don't have a nut buster, To tighten the nut. You Can get away with Your big impact gun, (we've done it both ways) I WOULD add RED LOCTITE. Just a drop, To the threads. NEVER had a nut back off

Thanks, this thing was stuck like I have never seen, and the cause was the head seal, I do use loctite and have never had one come loose, I really like how cat built these bowl cylinders with the tapered rod, makes installation a breeze

Simple job for grease. In a lathe cut a grease path inside and outside the bushing. Then drill a few pass through holes for the grease to pass from the supply path to the distribution path.

jeff it's easy to put a hole in those bushings all you need is carbide endmill and a milling machine also you can grove them in the lathe there tough not that hard

I am a machinist and the first thing a machinist does is ask for a drawing, if no drawing then a sketch or verbal instructions. You don't bore unless you have the part that fits into that bore beforehand.Bushings aren't always the size they should be. That part from Cat is probably metric. To drill a hardened bushing you need carbide drills and center drills. The bushings are case hardened so use a torch to anneal it at the spot you plan to drill.

Jeff, I have a suggestion for you, I got from one of your new subscribers. Please think about adding to your shop, an older Engine Lathe with tooling and a good tooled Knee mill of the Bridgeport genre. They would be a useful addition to your shop. Any usable Machine tool, Lathe or Mill, that isn't the smaller Home Garage size or that has 3ph electric power, GOES FOR SCRAP METAL PRICES at scrap yards. I have rescued nearly NEW WWII era machine tools from Naval Vessels, Government Warehouses and Old Factories for 2 cents a pound over it's scrap metal price. The first machine I bought was a nearly new, 1920's, flat belt, fully tooled 24" gap bed lathe, but only 40" between centers. i.e. A 24" x 40" lathe and fully tooled for $500 cash in 1967. The biggest cost of buying good used obsolete Machine Tools is the FREIGHT cost, most times many times over the actual cost of the Machine tool itself. You have the ability to haul your own machine tools and equipment with no additional Government Authority needed. The next issue is if you aren't knowledgeable about turning Machine handles to get that round, square or flat part you need made. If you or your sons aren't machinist abled, I'm sure if you needed a machinist's help, someone watching your channel could offer help or if local visit and help you out. I can see how you want to do as much as you can yourself. Please think about my suggestion. I wish you all well and will pray for you, your's and Shane daily. God's Blessings.

Having a hydraulic test unit really helps with this disassembly stuff and bonus the cylinders get tested before going out. Worked on many a Cat cylinder over the last 40 years and built induction hardened rods for them too. Pardon my French but I always called them Cat queer. You're dead right about why. They want you at their parts window. Bendover.

Bearing retainer from loctite is stronger than steel and when primed properly will bond so strong to steel that pressing a bearing back out cold, once retained, the metal will shear and the bore will be damaged. It will grab cast iron and tear it apart. Its amazing stuff indeed.

I had a six foot cylinder on a bench that had a rod that was 12" in diameter. That is a lot of hydraulic oil. The fitting was pointed straight at me, I went to push the rod into the bore and forgot that it hadn't been drained yet. I got it only about six inches in when I was totally drenched in oil. It's got a 2" fitting. Stupidity in it's finest form.

My 3406E has 550 HP and it's all just done off of the ECM. I can go to 600HP with the way that it's set up now. It all depends on how your engine is set up now, like if its 435HP you probably can't go more than 475HP without changing a bunch of things like the turbo and injectors etc... you can only go within the parameters of what it was set up to do.

Clyde Acor my set up is a 450hp 1800 torque. I want more power taking off. When I’m 120-150k lbs my truck struggles to take off from a start. I have a 18 speed, 4:11 gears. Once I’m moving a long I’m fine. I heard I should check the fuel pressure. What do think? Did you take your truck to western State here in Idaho? That’s a cool trailer too. I’m a equipment nut.

@@yeahok115sure ya I just put a brand new Borg Warner turbo in my truck for $1100 no exchange. Everyone else wanted $1400-$1700 for a reman plus exchange. My turbo used to push 29psi but now around 26 for some reason but actually pulls better now than it did with more pressure. I only go to the Cat dealer when I have to, I usually do most of the work myself if I need computer work done my nephew works at a truck shop so I just have him do it. I'm 550hp and 1850 torque so you're really not gaining much torque just horsepower turning it up. I'd just do some research you might get it up to 500-525 with what you have. Who knows maybe even a bit more.

I know a few, even some that could line bore that hole on the pan. :-) With all that iron dragging thru the dirt you will always keep a few machinists and fabricators fed. :-) When I shrunk piston pins into my 855 in my moms canning cooker in the kitchen she was not pleased. It did the job though! lol

If you ever do need to drill a hole in hardened steel, take a carbide cement drill and sharpen it on a tool grinder, chuck it up in a mill, and hit it with 1600 RPM and some oil. If it squeals like a stuck hog you know you are going fast enough. Guys in the sheet metal stamping shop use that trick when they forget a hole before heat treat.

Yea, the disability world is depressing, my wife has had brain surgery and we have an adult son with autism we take care of. Several years ago was invited to an Advocacy class from dept. of Mental Health. With an inexpensive decades-old lathe you can have any size pins and bushings you want on demand, it's fairly simple and I don't have a pay Cat's outrageous prices for parts. The raw stock isn't that expensive and can be ordered from wholesale internet sellers and sit happily on my shelves. I really dislike being overcharged for stuff, for me it's the principle.

You said the pin was friction welded so just weld the pin to the plate instead of welding a plate underneath in case it falls out, or do both.

It's a loctite product, called bearing mount, it's a liquid anerobic sealant that will work up to 350 degrees

Here is what I want to know about hydraulic cylinders. What kind of seamless tubing or pipe is used to make a hydraulic cylinder. It must be some kind of top secret information because not one single you tube video maker will reveal what they used to build a hydraulic cylinder. if you know I would appreciate your input.

It’s nothing special. Typically seamless DOM 1020 or 1026
