Hope you enjoyed this! I really enjoyed talking about my thoughts on an OST more generally. As always, open to suggestions of other games to do this with.

Absolute Cinema Music 🙌 I’d say to me the music represents Junpei and his arc the most, from his humanity and his hope to despair in failures, especially in later games where it’s hinted he’s seen a lot of the worst in people despite triumphing.

Really loved your analysis! Zero Escape series music is one of the most human-like I've felt alongside Umineko's, every song is perfectly crafted to make you feel a certain scene wheter its happiness, sadness or sorrow while building up their world. I'm not a musician nor a composer but the feelings behind every music piece truly makes you get attached to the characters, their stories and the game itself.

Morphogenetic Sorrow gets hits me hard because of the timing and context. Having played it on the DS-which was vital at the time, because the piece plays at a very specific climax which they had to change for the Nonary Games version. I haven’t finished TNG 999, but *everything* about the game gets turned upside-down at this point in the DS version and it blew my mind. Narratively it probably hits roughly the same, but I remember just crying because of that moment. So the fact that they use the first few notes all over the place and retrigger that memory is like punching me in the feels every single time.

I absolutely love this game's soundtrack (and the game too its amazing). Sucks that a few people use it in their videos but don't mention where its from.

Easy answer is music that plays in Zero Escape but what is interesting is that it's not *only* that. I catch myself thinking "this sounds like a Layton theme" or "this could be an Ace Attorney truth theme" for songs that have nothing in common in either composition (or not much) nor even situations they play in. Still, association is a vital part of videogame music, when the music is in adequation with the feelings the game is making you feel, and reinforcing those feelings or on the contrary when it feels off and catches your attention.

As I mentioned to my friend Snow, Zero Escape has amazing music and I feel you did a amazing job analyzing the soundtrack. But I feel compared to something like Quake 1 (Great game btw), it's something I don't listen to outside of the game while the music in both games are great but I feel they blend so well in the background you could tell it not design to be listen to isolation. Besides that, my main reason why i don't listen ZE very much is due to reliance of minimalism rather then melodic structures I prefer from other game soundtracks. How ever I feel ZE would not work well with a very heavy melodic and catchy score, mainly it will drive away the experience of the game and ruin the mood and atmosphere. In fact that's okay actually, despite me feeling like this and I still think a lot of the ambient tracks in Zero Escape were a lot more stronger then Danganronpa in my opinion, due to Shinji Hosoe amazing sound design for them. Not trying to bash on Danganronpa music and it's how I feel about the atmospheric and ambient compositions for the game score. I feel Shinji Hosoe still convey rely a lot of emotion for certain moments of the games that make it so well done.

The word that comes to me sounds quite negative, but I don’t mean it badly. It’s the word “forgettable”. This game’s music is beautiful, but for me personally, it only works so well because of the story that accompanies it. It’s very beautiful, don’t get me wrong - it’s just that outside of the game I wouldn’t find myself listening to the music of Zero Escape aside from *maybe* Blue Bird Lamentation, and that’s still a heavy maybe. For Morphogenetic Sorrow, I think I just am unfortunate in that I couldn’t connect to the relationship between Akane and Junpei and truthfully do not like them together. The song is still written very well and I understand what Shinji was trying to convey, but the emotions flew past me. I love this game, but the music I’d say is the “weakest” UNLESS you add it alongside the story, and I unfortunately feel like you can say this for many games. Then again, it wasn’t exactly written to listen outside of the game, so I don’t feel like I’ve said the most controversial thing, but yeah… that’s pretty much my thoughts. Love this style of video and hope you cover OMORI at some point as well as Outer Wilds!
