I'm fairly new to the hobby and recently bought this radio as my first upgrade from a baofeng, mostly for duplex dual band capabilities for satellites. I'm excited to play with the APRS and echolink as well. I found this video quite helpful when I was shopping and comparing and I just wanted you to know that I really appreciate what you did here.

Excellent overview of the features of the TH-D72. I learned so much about this radio from the video. Great job!

Well, that was quick, I got to your second slide and called it quits. Not because of you, but because there is no general coverage receive. That is something I used and still use on my TH-F6a. I know the TH-D74a does this as well, complete with CW filtering, it’s worth the extra $$ for me. Somehow I missed that fact in the Kenwood specs. Thanks.

Let me guess you're into ecomm and prepping LOL most experienced hams know to avoid radios with General coverage receivers, it's why the d72 is more popular than the d74 and d75 combined The problem is radios with General coverage receivers have front ends that are as wide as a barn door so they suffer selectivity issues. Now I know most new hams are just Appliance operators and don't understand this sort of thing , but what it means is that strong out-of-band signals can completely wipe out the front end of the receiver, they are very susceptible to intermod and fundamental front end overload. There's a huge difference between the receive performance of the d72 and the th6, for example inside my electronics lab sitting on my bench my Kenwood d72 has no problem receiving signals, it will decode aprs just fine. Meanwhile the th6 sitting right next to it is Deaf is a doornail, It can't hear a damn thing. That's because the LED lights above the bench generate just enough RFI that it blanks out the front end of the th6 The reason for this is simple, the th6 has such a wide front end that it's like a barn door.. it has no selectivity so it receives everything including RFI local objects. You can't transmit with another HT within 20 ft of the th6 without blanking out its front end meanwhile the d72a can transmit on 2 m and receive on 440 simultaneously or it can transmit on two meters while receiving on 2 m simultaneously, this is because it has helical front end filters that are tight HTS with General coverage receivers also have issues anywhere within about 5 Mi of an broadcast station, any strong signals just pretty much blank out the front end it's called fundamental overload. Meanwhile the d72a has helical front end filters tuned for just the ham bands meaning that it is very selective and that strong out of band signals have very little effect on it. These peppers in Ecom types would be better off buying a cheap $10 General coverage receiver and buying a decent radio with helical front end filtering... It's truly sad that Kenwood decided to go wide band on the d74 and d75 as now the receivers are no better than the cheap Chinese junk. It's why d72's on eBay are selling for more than d74

Some of the information he says contradicts what he has posted on the screen. Personally, because of the contradictions, I do not trust his video at all. He also is incapable of running a simple spell check!
