After reading some comments about the movements after the turtle head was cut off, I figured I’d try to provide a brief explanation. I’m a 1st year neurology resident physician. The movements seen here are just neuronal reflexes, more exaggerated than what you’d see in a human. You do not need an intact spinal cord for such reflex, as the the signal for the movement is not originating from the brain, but from the cell body of an interconnecting neuron located at the spinal cord level, for each respective neuron, which senses the physical stimulation from the outside, and initiates a motor reflex. In a spinal cord injury, you would only lose reflexes at the level of the injury, not above and not below that level. For example, when a human touches a very hot object, a lot of time you move your hand back without even thinking about it. That signal to withdraw your hand is a reflex that did not come from the brain, but was initiated at the spinal cord level. That’s why you see that these movements are not coordinated among the different limbs. There is no inter-communication between the different reflex arcs of the spinal cord, as there would be if the signal had originated from a higher processing level (brain). Hope that helps!

Reymond James Hon, women have been doing this for centuries too. I grew up hunting, fishing and helping to butcher anything brought home. Also, its not that spectacular a feat. Anyone can do this. The sign of a "real man" is a different set of standards that include being compassionate, non-violent towards people and not ego/control driven. Not one man in my family would have ever said what you said (limiting it to men, and considering growing or catching food a sign of moral character). All of us women in the family were treated and raised up in equality. But I do agree folks today need to learn the basics again, reconnect. Like I said, anyone can do this. Its awesome he posted this, he is a good, patient, intelligent teacher with his demonstration and explanations.

The way I see it, catching killing cleaning and cooking your own meat is the most humane way to treat animals that we eat. We would all eat less meat and the living thing had a good life up to the end, not cooped up in a cage or pen. People would respect nature more and understand what it takes for all that tasty protein to arrive at your local grocery store. Fight the true cruelty... mass produced meat and meat byproduct. If you want to eat meat, stop the cruelty to animals and become a hunter. If you don't want to eat meat fine, don't eat it. Small local farms are good too if you are lucky enough to have one around.

Tim Mann I'd like to see city folk scrounging for trash to eat during a city emergency while we are getting all the food we need from the land. Maybe they can eat sewer rat.

Rand Bruso they are too dependent, they demand food for a VERY cheap price. Then most of them turn around and run the farmer in the ground because he is a law abiding, CHRISTIAN, 2nd amendment advocate, hard working, contributor to society annnnnd want the food for Nothing. I hate the city, I'd rather be out in the "sticks" sittin in the woods ANY DAY. COUNTRY BOY OR DIE !

Rand Bruso I guess they could eat rats, the Chinese do, they even sell it in some restaurants (that's a fact for all you commie snowflakes out there). But like Tim Mann says, you still have to know how to process it when you catch it. Then you have to cook it. City folk don't eat anything that doesn't come in a nice shiny package and their cooking knowledge is limited to a 5 minute microwave cycle. They can't even boil water without a recipe, that's why they need starbucks to make coffee for them at $10 a pop.

Deep frying after boiling is a good idea. I ate some turtle years ago in Oklahoma and the guy just boiled it. The meat was alright, but it wasn't something I'd write home to mom about. That deep frying looks like the key to cooking one of these things and making it taste good.
