I have the Lēvoit humidifier just like yours, but not the ‘s’ model. I’ve had it so long, they didn’t sell the smart version. It’s my favorite of all humidifiers I own. The night button is so nice because it blacks out the display completely. I love sleeping in total darkness! 🎃

I was wishfully hoping you’d say they’re not needed! Ha. I have a 5.5 gallon humidifier that works pretty well to keep my living room at 50~%. The smaller humidifiers I have in my office only keeps the general area around it at 50%. I do live in a very dry place though. I think my plants are acclimated to this humidity.

Its important to know that you can wash the humidifier water compartment. They can get nasty with buildup stuff. My humidifiers are accessible for cleaning the interior. Some humidifiers are cool or warm water humidifiers. You didn't mention that. If you have lots of plants in one room, with some not tropical or needing much humidity, then how do you control it? Also adding a water conditioner like what you use in a fish tank to the water keps the water from getting algae. It also helps feed your plants especially if they are growing in leca as mine all are. I use API from the fish department at PetSmart or on line. I use it in my birdbaths too. Thank you for the info .😊

Good video! Have you seen Gardening in Canada's video on vapor pressure? A lot to digest, but basically, plants that want high humidity want higher temps as well. It helped me understand that at 68F inside my house in the winter, my ambient humidity of 50-60% is plenty high. Seattle may be grey in winter, but it's also plenty humid 💦

thanks for the info on the jade. I keep my jade in a high-ish humidity situation. I have an ikea cabinet that I converted to a little mini greenhouse. The humidity is about 68 on the top shelf...and lower on the bottom shelf...so, perhaps I will move it down to the bottom.

Lol I literally filled up my water at the tap this morning before I checked KZbin... I have well water and have always just used tap water in any humidifier, I don't find the white dust overly annoying as long as I don't let it build up for a long time. Considering that distilled water is like 2 dollars for 4l and the labor levoit humidifier takes 6l that would add up really fast esp when it's more for plants and not next to say a baby with a cold... After covid happened and people were buying all the water etc I realized that so many ppl who NEEDED distilled water for medical equipment couldn't get it and that just seemed scary and a bit selfish for me to buy it for plants. Obviously everyone is different and so is tap water quality but that's been a choice I made during the water shortages. People need it for CPAP and feeding tubes and other things (which is why the pharmacy here also has it) so I just buy it when my containers no longer can be used. I bought the levoit that you recommended and the only "complaint" I have about this specific model is that the must flow only goes on one way so I can't set it to shoot in two directions,I also would've liked the option of warm mist but this one was about 35 dollars less and holds the same amount of water and doesn't take up as much space so I went with it anyway. I have heard that warm mist ones aren't as beneficial as an actual hot vaporizer for treating colds etc anyway so it seemed like if that's an issue for me I can go buy the hot Vicks brand one if needed 🤷🏼‍♀️ One thing I noticed on the two days I've had it is that my birds are already less dusty and not itching like they were. The humidity has dropped 15 percent with the weather and dried out my skin and my birds, so it's good that it's not just plants benefitting!
@EverythingPlants

Oh ya....I don't use distilled at all for humidifiers. I also should have mentioned that with the white mineral dust will be dependant on the type of hardness your water has....my tap water is very hard and we use a water softener.

Have you ever tried those hard water filters that you just drop into the reservoir? They're always recommended on Amazon to buy with it. They claim to help with the white dust but I get lots of yellow residue from the well water (safe to drink just very high minerals) wonder if those things actually do anything 🤔

One thing to be aware of with these crappy levoit Ultrasonic Humidifiers is white dust , it goes everywhere , it was stuck to my walls , furniture , TV , got inside my gaming computer and stuck to my windows , I used filtered water in it and cleaned it weekly and it was awful , I ended up changing it for a Honeywell evaperative model with no white dust what so ever and can cover a much larger distance.
@EverythingPlants
@EverythingPlants 2 жыл бұрын
I found it is the type of water that you use because i previously used tap water and got the white dust, but since switching to filtered tap water I no longer has this issue.

I really wanted to use a ultrasonic model, but I don't think it is safe to run these unless you use distilled water. Filtered helps some, but it does not remove many of the minerals and other impurities you don't want to breathe after it's been vaporized. It might appear fine using a filter, but from everything I've read it's just not safe, so buyer beware. I went with an evaporative model for this reason.

@EverythingPlants

Oh ya....any sort of constant high humidity is not good. Get a cheap hygrometer if you are worried about it getting too high. I personally don't use pebble trays, but it is definitely a popular option for localized humidity

I have no experience with the zebra plants specifically, but I know the majority of house plants. Although they like higher humidity, they don't necessarily require it to be super high. I keep mine at around 45% humidity
