I know people LOVE this weapon, it's the highest upvoted zealot build on gameslantern I think but it's pretty much useless vs carapace or flak and a chainaxe or chainsword clears just as well anyway for hordes, I never understood the hype. Yeah, the weapon is fun and cool but it sorta sucks dick being countered by so many mobs when it's your melee as a zealot. Even knife explodes carapace enemies.

I used heavy sword a lot pre 13 when headtaker gave an obscene amount of power. Since then, I put it as a tier below combat axe and knife in term of overall effectiveness. It is unmatched in trash horde clear, but trash horde is not a problem even with knife. When it comes to tanky elites packs heavy sword suffers so much.

While fun and pretty good against fodder enemies to just spam away, sword relly struggles with any kind of armored elites/mixed hordes, and those are a big deal on heresy+. Sure, you can pick bolter with it, to help deal with that, but bolter is a huge ammo investment + super unwieldy. I mean, you don't have to go metaslave, but most weapons do a better job and arguably as much as fun. Not sure how to help the poor thing - would really love to use it more often.

My thoughts exactly. Main reason why I no always go either Uncanny IV Knife, Either Combat or Tactical Axe or Something with equal armor pen. Cant stand it when my melee weapon cant kill everything on my screen. Now some people advocate for going revolver and deleting crushers that way, but why waste a limited resource when you could go a melee weapon that can actually kill carapace and cost you 0 resources whilst doing so?

I'm mostly using mk VI heavy sword on my crit build, any am using heavy/special attack chains for armored like crushers and maulers as well as going with burn-nades, the special attack seems to hit harder on armor than normal, at least the stagger sure is useful. My build is kind of fun and works like a charm even on auric-level studs, but yeah would really like a new heavy sword with some armor-pen. Something that plays a little like the Bret-longsword in vermintide would be nice, parrying while charging a hit, dunno why they didn't already implement something like that on darktide.

Yeah I would love a brettonia sword for zealot. Can easily deal with armour and with great flair. Heavy sword really struggle against bulwark and crushers pack.
