EvesGardenSoaps Hi sweetie! I hear ya, I may be moving also, so I've been out of the soaping world mostly for quite a while too. I MISS soaping so much, but don't want to have to move a bunch of soap and take the chance of it getting ruined while moving. But boy do I miss it...wahhhh! :-) Good to see you making videos. :-) Mel

christine1962ful Hi Christine ~ thank you for watching and the nice comment. I think using thicker traced soap, larger streaks side by side is what changes the look from tiger stripe. I tried this technique again recently. I did it all the way through the soap this time, and it looks pretty cool. Happy soaping! :) ione eve

Lovely soap and technique. Curious as to what you mean by 'superfat? Are these oils/butters you add after the lye water & original group of oils are mixed together? TIA
@EvesGardenSoaps9 жыл бұрын
Becky Sarsfield Hi Becky ~ thank you for watching and the lovely comment. To answer your question, superfat is oil that doesn't turn into soap. It remains unsaponified as a moisturizer or emollient. This percentage is figured during the lye calculation. I hold the oils that I hope won't saponify and add last, but that doesn't always mean they're the ones chosen. I figure it can't hurt though, LOL! I hope this helps and happy soaping! :) ione eve

Wow! lovely... I bet it smell so good... What fragrance do you use? Thanks
@EvesGardenSoaps8 жыл бұрын
+Varatchaya S. Mills Hi Varatchaya ~ thank you for watching my video and the sweet compliment. I used a blended fragrance of mountain pine and juniper berry in this soap. I got the mountain pine scent from Peak and juniper berry from Brambleberry, then blended them myself. I hope this answers your question, and happy soaping! :) ione eve
@VaratchayaSMills8 жыл бұрын
+EvesGardenSoaps Thanks... I think I might have a hard time finding the exact fragrance... I didn't live in the state.. Do you have any suggestions for fragrance combination?
@EvesGardenSoaps8 жыл бұрын
+Varatchaya S. Mills I would find a scent you like that doesn't cause the soap to set-up too fast. It doesn't need to be the same thing I did. I don't know what companies you have locally, or what online businesses would ship to you. You will need to research that yourself. When you find one, if you don't know what fragrances are nice, read the reviews and see what people think of them and how they act when making soap. Good luck! :)

Interesting, that silver went almost blue. What was the mica you used for the silver? I've got a pewter one here I got from someone on FB....
@EvesGardenSoaps10 жыл бұрын
Hi Ann ~ thank you for watching! The color looks more blue in the video than in real life. I didn't use any mica for the silver, just activated charcoal and titanium dioxide mixed to light gray. It came out looking silver next to the gold. I ordered some white pearl mica that I'm using next time so it will have more sheen. Pewter should work nicely I would think! :) ione eve

Even i love your video but i have one doubt, this recipe have lye? which amounts of oils?Thanks Martha
@EvesGardenSoaps8 жыл бұрын
Thank you, Marta ~ I appreciate your kind compliment. All soap is made with lye. It's the chemical reaction between the oil molecule and lye molecule that make a soap molecule. Active lye molecules are not present at the end of the curing process. There may be oil molecules present if more oil is in the recipe than there is lye to change it. This is referred to as superfat. In handmade soap, glycerine (removed in manufactured soap) and superfat help moisturize skin. While I don't share my exact recipes, you can find very good ones at Soaping101.com and tutorials at SoapQueen.com. Happy soaping! :) ione eve

Your soaps are so superior that I want to view every one of your videos. You thoughts are organized, and your videos are a pleasure to listen to. So do you mix the titanium dioxide with oil and not water?
@EvesGardenSoaps8 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the thoughtful compliments. :) I do mix the titanium dioxide with extra light olive oil - 1 part TD to 5 parts oil. I usually make a large quantity and use a stick blender to do the job. A frother would work for smaller quantities. TD can be hard to get thoroughly mixed, but little white spots will show in the soap if it's not mixed up well. After the initial mixing, a good shake of the squeeze bottle before using is all that is needed. Good luck and happy soaping!

Can you tell me why we get glycerin rivers?
@EvesGardenSoaps7 жыл бұрын
Hi Cheryl ~ thank you for watching my video. I appreciate it very much. To answer your question, glycerine rivers form during the gel process when the soap heats up. High superfat content and quantity of titanium dioxide are contributing factos. When I use all milk for liquid and/or a high volume of titanium dioxide for a white base, I always refrigerate the soap for at least 18 hours. This stops the gel process. The soap takes longer to set up, sometimes 72 hours, but it's the only way to be assured of no glycerine rivers. I hope this helps, and happy soaping! :) ione eve
