This soap is absolutely gorgeous. I can't believe how delicate the hanger swirl is. I was certain when I saw you going back and forth and then up and down and then under it was going to turn out a muddy mess. But instead it's PERFECT. You're a genuine artist. Thank you for sharing this video.
@EvesGardenSoaps10 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the sweet compliment, Brittan! I think if I had used a bigger dowl type hanger for the swirl ~ it would have been a muddy mess, ha! A lot depends on the thickness of the trace too. Getting all the elements to work just right is the fun of soaping! Thanks for watching and your thoughful comment. :) ione eve

Hi Amy ~ Thank you for watching my video and your thoughtful comment. You put a big smile on my face! In 2014 I shared this soap with the Soapmaking 101 Study Group garnering over 700 comments. There are probably only a handful of soap makers left that remember where it came from. Thanks again for your kind words and happy soaping! :) ione

I have ordered many products from Tropical Traditions. Their products are wonderful. They seem very environment conscious and are interested in preserving the old, traditional ways of producing their oils to obtain the highest nutritional and environmental values of their area. They are attempting to preserve the way of life of the people there. I believe they are an excellent company.
@EvesGardenSoaps10 жыл бұрын
Thank you for commenting on Tropical Tradition's business. I love their coconut and palm oils. In their effort to inform people, they state the acreage used for growing their palm trees has been farmed for hundreds of years and has not been deforested like places in Africa. I know that is one of the complaints against palm oil companies. It's a shame that good businesses like Tropical Traditions suffer, because of what some non-reputable businesses do. :) ione eve

Gorgeous soap. Thank you for sharing your process. I had never heard of this company's organic and sustainable palm shortening. Here is a quote from their page to confirm what you said you thought. "Tropical Traditions Organic Palm Shortening - Sourced from Eco-friendly Sustainable Farms Tropical Traditions Organic Palm Shortening comes from small scale family farms in South America. These farmers are certified by ProForest, which ensures that they meet strict social, environmental and technical criteria. With regard to environmental criteria, the assessments are carried out at the landscape and operational level at both the farms and processing facilities. These assessments cover environmental impact on the soil, water, air, biodiversity and local communities. The lands the farmers use are not lands that were deforested. The lands used to grow the palm fruit are lands previously used for agricultural purposes (cattle, rice, banana)."

@EvesGardenSoaps10 жыл бұрын
Hello Cindy ~ thank you for watching and taking the time to comment. To answer your question, I use powdered colorants/oxides/mica in my soaps. I mix the powder into a little olive oil for easy dispersion. Some of the main colors I use are ultramarine blue, brick red, electric bubblegum, fizzy lemonade, cellini red, neon blue raspberry and chrome green. I get them from www.brambleberry.com. Using these, I mix my own intermediate colors like yellow/green, purple, orange, etc. I hope this helps, and happy soaping! :) ione eve

Absolutely beautiful, so delicate. Can I ask please, did you gel it? What did you use for the white, was it titanium dioxide? If so, how did you stop it from "crackling"? Every soap I make using TD, has awful crackling & rivers in it, so I've stopped using it.
@EvesGardenSoaps10 жыл бұрын
Hello Joscelyn ~ Thank you for the nice compliment. As to your questions ~ Yes, I gelled the soap and I did use Titanium Dioxide, but not much. I use very little with gelled soaps. I put just enough into the accent color to be white, but did not put that much into the base. That why it's a differnt color. Also heating seems to make a big difference with TD. Crackling occurs with over-heating, so I watch the temp. closely. I use blankets to insulate, and depending on the house temp. I'll cover and uncover in daytime, but make sure to cover during the night as it gets colder. Hope this helps, and happy soaping! :) ione eve

Hi Lynn ~ Thank you for watching my video and your gracious compliments. I appreciated it very much. To answer your question, I used cosmetic oxides, colorants and mica from Brambleberry in this soap. For the dark green I used chrome green and ultramarine blue, for the red I blended electric bubblegum, merlot mica and red oxide. Hi Prudence ~ thank you for the nice compliment. I purchase all my colors from Brambleberry. I only use powdered minerals mixed with a little olive oil. This is the prettiest soap I HAVE EVER SEEN! I am going to try my hand at it but I am sure it won't be as beautiful as yours...Can you tell me what are you using for the white color...is it a pre made oxide in something? thank you..your awesome, Victoria
@EvesGardenSoaps9 жыл бұрын
victoria ciolek Hi Victoria ~ thank you for watching and the lovely comment. I appreciate it. To answer your question, I used some titanium dioxide mixed in a little extra light olive oil to color the base with. Since the fragrance I used tends to darken the soap, I did this so it wouldn't turn too tan. I hope this helps, and best of luck in your soap making endeavors! :) ione eve

EvesGardenSoaps Hi ione Eve...thank you..I thought that might be how you whitened it...can you tell me how much to use in each cup of color..1oz 3 oz? I don't know since I am new at it, but I have the rest of it figured out...I just don't want to mess up that much soap if I do the colors wrong...and I LOVE your blog site,as well as your video's...I watch almost all of them last night...Your my kind of person...keep them coming...blessings, Victoria

victoria ciolek Your words are very kind ~ thank you so much. I have never actually measured the amount of color I use. It doesn't always show in the video, because of editing, but I add small amounts until I get the color I want. One thing to keep in mind ~ with the color mixed in oil, the superfat % goes up, so when I plan to use a lot of color I reduce the superfat % of the recipe ie: I usually superfat at 5%, but if I'm adding milk or a lot of color I reduce it to 3% ~ then the superfat rises to 5% becasue of the fat in milk and or oil in the colors. Also, when using colors it's easy to add too much and get color run in the lather when using the soap. Less is more when coloring soap. I add enough to see the color, when looking at the soap in the container, but see through it when I run it up on the sides in a thinned state. I wish I knew this stuff when I first started, but learned it all the hard way, LOL! Happy soaping! :) ione eve

Oooh, it's a beautiful soap!!!!! What a kind of essential oil did you use?
@EvesGardenSoaps7 жыл бұрын
Hi Giorgia ~ thank you for watching my video and the lovely compliment. My understanding is that essential oil can't be made from strawberries, among other things. I used a strawberry fragrance oil from Peak in this soap. :) ione

You just are so smart. I never thought of not putting fragrance oil in my accent colors when I know they'll darken up!

Hi Nayelly ~ Thanks for your uplifting compliment ~ I'm grinning! I don't know how smart I am though, it's more like trial and error. It's amazing how many little tricks we pick up the more soap we make ~ LOL! :) ione eve

i seen in your comments someone else asked this same Qbut could you give some info on how you are moving that hanger-you make it look so simple,i cant believe how amazing this is-you are awesome at this!!

Hi Amy ~ If you watch the "Making Cherry Blossom" video, I explain the motion done with the hanger. It also shows that the swirls never come out the same with this technique, but most likely will be something pretty. :) ione eve

I was wondering when ur making ur recipe do u zero ur super fats since u add them a little later? I do this with my hp soap, but didn't know I could do it with cp...and love ur tip on cleaning up soap bars in hp!! Love ur videos and ur soap!! Thank u sooooo much for sharing! I would give 10 thumbs up if I could! Corrie
@EvesGardenSoaps10 жыл бұрын
Hi Corrie ~ Thank your for your kind words. I really appreciate hearing from you. I giggled with the 10 thumbs up! To answer your question, I use a 5% super fat discount in the lye calculation. I add them later so the other oils saponify first, leaving them in the 5% that doesn't saponify ~ for emollients and moisturizers. If this isn't what you were asking, please re-phrase and we'll have another go. Thanks again for watching, and the thoughtful comment. :) ione eve

Wonderful video, enjoyed it a lot. I love your beautiful soaps; the colours are just perfect. You must have a great Strawberry fragrance there, because last time I used strawberry I literally had soap on a stick!!! :) Linda

Linda Walpole ~ Thank you for watching and the gracious compliments. I combine the strawberry FO with another scent called Fruit Slices. I know what you mean about strawberry FO seizing! Also, I've noticed the smell is so strong that adding something else tames it down and makes a much better scent. :) ione eve

Beautiful soap! Really! Just a question...is this soap an ornamental soap or can I use it for washing my hands or my body? I'd like to buy one of your fantastic soap for a present but I don't know if it's usefull too. Thank you and sorry if I wrote something wrong...'cause I'm an italian woman ;)

Hello Federica ~ Thank you for watching and the gracious compliment. I make soap for skin health. Enjoying the artistic side is a side-benefit for me as a soap-maker. The ingredients and skin-health properties of each soap is listed on my website. Click on a soap in the "Online Store" and the description of that soap appears. The link to my website is: evesgardenhandmadesoaps.com ~ Thanks again! :) ione eve

Beautiful swirls! I'm so glad you mentioned the palm oil issue. I have contemplated this issue with my soaps. I was also using sustainable palm oil from Brambleberry. But I recently used up my last bit and am no longer using palm. I have substituted avocado oil and made my first batch. It soaped really well and I can't wait to try it out when it's cured. I wish there was a way to know the truth about sustainable palm oil, but until then, I'm going to not use it, for peace of mind.
@EvesGardenSoaps10 жыл бұрын
Hi Sandi ~ Thank you for watching, and for the thoughtful comment. Concerning the palm oil, you may want to take a look at ChristineMM's comment. I hope your soap comes out wonderful. I use avacado oil in an herbal shampoo bar that I make for myself, and my family. I recently tried using hemp oil too. It seems like we soapers have an endless choice in recipe design, eh? . . . part of the fun of soaping! :) ione eve
