Thank you for joining me in this soap making adventure. I'm using an olive oil infusion of beet powder to color the soap. Watch as unexpected results happen that transition the design 3 times during making this soap. Fasten you seat belts for a wild and crazy ride!
ingredients: olive oil infused with beet powder, vegetable shortening, distilled water, coconut oil, sodium hydroxide, whole milk, cocoa butter, almond fragrance oil, castor oil, sweet almond oil, sea salt, titanium dioxide

Awwwh! I liked the top. It looked like a latte.

Thank you for watching my video and your sweet comment. A little tear fell for the Latte design. That is exactly what I was going for, but the soap just wasn't high enough on both sides to be used comfortably. In a tall and skinny mold it would have been perfect! Next time . . . :) ione

Wow Beet powder changes with the lye. Nice experiment. The soap still looks good.

Thanks so much for watching my video and your thoughtful comment. I'm going to try the beet powder infused in distilled water and frozen to see if that makes a difference. Experimenting makes soaping such a fun hobby. :) ione

Hi Jane ~ Thank you for watching my video and your sweet comment. A coffee drink with whipped cream is exactly the design I was going for. If I had done the topping all the way across I think I would have liked it. It would raise the sides to more of a tall and skinny size that could be used okay. Next time . . . . :) ione

The final bar is beautiful! I myself prefer non-decorated top soaps. The tree stamp is perfect.

Thank you for watching my video and your sweet comment! The last few years I've been conscientiously trying to make sure the sides of the soap that are used for lathering are nice and smooth, or at least flat LOL! For me, it's made a big difference in soap design. :) ione

That would be the perfect color for a coffee scent!

Thank you for watching my video and taking the time to comment. Coffee would be a great scent for this color soap! Unfortunately, I didn't have any on hand when this happened :( You should have seen me rushing around the scent cupboard trying to find something that would work, LOL! :) ione

Although not your original plan, I love the way this soap turned out! Always a good idea to have a Plan B in mind when soaping 😁

Hi Cheryl ~ Thank you for watching my video and your thoughtful words. I appreciate it very much! One of the most fun things about soap making, for me, is experimenting. I hope to do more with natural colorants, with better results. Fingers crossed, LOL! :) ione

Lovely wholesome looking soaps Ione, which I'm sure will be nourishing to use as well. 👌 I'm always delighted when your video comes up. Loved your experimentation and how you calmly handled all the designing challenges and with your creative flair you still managed to make yet another beautiful, naturally colored soap. ❤👏🧡 I learn so much from you.

Hi Renu ~ Thanks so much for watching this video. It was a bit different from my usual offering. Sometimes, when things go awry we need to adjust quickly. I thought other soap makers might enjoy seeing this, and could relate. After all, it happens to us all, LOL! Happy soaping! :) ione

Came out beautiful! I have beet powder on hand and been waiting to try it! Love your stamp design. Can you tell us where purchased? Found you through watching Holly’s goat milk powder soap video (you had made a comment). Now , have a new soap maker to watch! Thank you.

Hi Debbie ~ Thank you for watching my video and your thoughtful comment. I hope you have a different outcome with using beet powder than me. I tried using it again without milk in the recipe, no luck. I made a beet powder solution with distilled water and froze it, still turned brown. I might do one more experiment, and just add the powder to the soap like any other colorant and see what happens. I got the beet powder I used on Amazon. I'll leave a link for you. I hope you will watch some of my other videos too. Thanks again and happy soaping! :) ione www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0BGMGN7H4/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_image_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&th=1

Hi Christine ~ Thanks for watching my video! I'm glad you agree with my decision to trim off the top. It was pretty, but sliding your hand across that uneven side would not be pleasant. I appreciate you comment and thanks again! :) ione

Hi Patricia ~ Thanks so much for watching my video and your sweet comment! Things don't always go as planned when making soap, eh? LOL! I'm going to experiment again with the beet powder, infusing it in distilled water and freezing. I'm hoping the color will hold that way. Fingers crossed! :) ione

The beet powder is so pretty infused into the olive oil. Unfortunately, it does go brown when exposed to lye/saponified :/ I'm watching all kinds of soaping videos right now since I can't make it right now :( Hopefully I'll be in my own space by November and be able to make then! :) I think, if you could find a good, blue indigo and some sea buckthorn you might be able to get close to the wine or mauvey colors pre lye solution though.

Thank you for watching my video and your thoughtful comment. I hope you get settled soon. I know how unpleasant it can be when you can't make soap, but want to. The beet powder going brown really shouldn't surprise me. Every organic compound I've tried does that. I haven't totally given up though. I'm going to give it another go with frozen, infused distilled water. Keep your finger crossed for me? Happy soaping! :) ione
