would agree with what he said the ftw card has beefiest vrm and pcb design not only for the 2-3% boost but also the cleaner power at the higher overclock extends life and if not overclocking past sc model its cooler too

I have the 1070 superclocked and am VERY impressed with the factory overclock. It's like they almost maxed out the card. The max overclock I can get is +95 to core (which runs at 2050mhz boost), and it runs great. Was about 1950ish without OC.

THANK YOU. I just went to NCIX and bought the Founders card. I was worried I made the wrong decision because of all the flaming on reddit. I looked everywhere for something as concise as this. So thank you. I feel much more assured with my purchase :) The salesperson didn't know nearly as much information about the differences. Another thing I'd add (and what influenced my decision) is that the Founders edition has that backplate. That doesn't seem like a big deal... but in my home it is. I have a custom built PC with like 4 huge fans in it and a ton of ventilation. But I have a lot of books and pets... so the inside of my PC collects a LOT of dust. I got the founders because I figured it would stay cleaner for much longer. Overall, having a blower AND a super ventilated system can't be a bad thing right? Little noisier, but I wear headphones so meh. Anyways, yeah, THANKS!

My. God. If only all KZbinr's who wished to convey information did it as efficiently and completely as you do. It is the combination of information clearly presented and competent accompanying practical analysis which makes for such excellent form. Bravo. Analyses like these leave no room for speculation as to whether the speaker is advertising for a product or purposefully attempting to mislead the audience, because you make it clear that the performance difference between these is of negligible practical significance whereas the marketing relies on consumers to believe that isn't the case. Tons of tech analysts purposefully buy into and propagate what is essentially marketing material (like when a website tells you you need to buy a 300 dollar motherboard so that you can have an utterly negligible difference in peak performance when overclocking), so this is why I make a point of complimenting you on this.

Thank you so much for this video! It was VERY well done and informative. I have some questions I was hoping you could please answer for me, I would really appreciate it. First off, does the FTW edition run any cooler then the SuperClocked edition? And by overclocking the FTW edition to whatever overclock you think I could expect to get and run safely, how much more FPS do you think I'd get over the stock SuperClocked edition? My goal would be to get 3-5 FPS more over the Superclocked edition, do you think that's realistic? Would overclocking that card reduce it's lifespan at all? I know overclocking would result in more heat and heat is what can reduce the lifespan of a GPU, but is that really the only reason why overclocking would reduce the lifespan of the GPU? Because heat really shouldn't be a problem for me I have a nice big case with 5 fans on it in a pretty decent room temp. So as long as my card stays cool overlocking it won't reduce it's lifespan? Or is there another reason why overclocking would reduce the lifespan of a GPU? I apologize for the huge block of text. I completely understand if you don't have the time to read this all and answer. Once again, thank you so much for the in depth video! It really helped me a lot. I subscribed to your channel and I'm really looking forward to your future content. :)

Buy the FTW for the RGB lighting and because "For The Win" sounds cool... Don't buy it thinking you'll get a massive performance increase. While loud, frankly the Founders edition can run just as fast as the FTW does (the fan is really noisy doing that however on the Founders) The extra power phases give you a better chance of a stable overclock, but keep in mind the base power draw of the 1070 is 170 watts, this is actually a rather modest draw and the FTW card is rather overbuilt for what it really is. Do keep in mind the price difference is $20, so that is 5%, it isn't a huge leap in cost. :)

For my case I think it's best I just get the Superclocked edition which you can currently get on Newegg for only $409. So as long as I make absolutely sure that the card remains very cool at safe temps, a stable overclock won't reduce the lifespan of the GPU?

Voltage, not clock speed, is generally what kills chips... That and heat... :) Watch how much voltage you give it, too much wears out the chip faster. It may not matter in the useful life of the card, or it might, it is all a roll of the dice. :)

When MOD BIOS come along the FTW ver has 2xBIOS so less risk as can revert to factory/stabe, and the TDP and delivery will leverage more for future overclocks (using MOD). FTW is quieter/cooler (100mm fans), this card could easily do 2.3ghz+ in the near future. That's why you would buy FTW, not LED Lighting and because it looks cool - you would buy as it's future proofed for the tinkerer/OC'r.

I work in IT professionally and am running a custom water cooled rig privately and I just LOVE that stuff, so I always like to see that topic being covered. AIO water coolers are a good start though. By the way, I am wonderring where you get all that hardware from, though. Being (still) such a small channel will not make vendors through stuff at you (yet), I guess. And buying it all on your own is most likely too costly, except you are are millionaire and doing this as a hobby :-)

I think the founders Editions look sexy as fuck nice design Nvidia but they do run a lil warm depending on what cooling setup you Got with that being said if you got plenty of exhaust fans and a watercooled heatsink your good to Go with the Founders Edition

Well, I don't really like Christmas lighting inside the case and rog already has enough lighting, I don't clock much, I play my games on ps and Xbox, I use pc to watch cat videos in 4k so I'd go for SC... I have a question sir Tech Deals. Have you considered the binning process of these cards, as well as the prospect of those that would liquid cool them? Good lower cost liquid cooling solutions exist as you know. Considering binning, the "silicon lottery", liquid cooling, and the advanced power delivery system on the FTW card, you can achieve a MUCH higher overclock. I myself have a 350Mhz overclock, pushing it to 2GHZ compared to 1.65GHZ out of the box (resulting in a very significant increase in frames as I use a 144hz monitor) on my 1080 FTW (no liquid cooling and its still quiet, thermals in check). I know that from past knowledge and experience that "lower tier" cards will simply not do this, or have a much lower probability, as I have overclocked quite a variety of cards. EVGA and other manufacturers have a grading scale (I forget the name of it, ASIC grade I believe) for each chip as no one chip is created equal, binning the better scoring chips (based on thermals and stable clocks per voltage) into their higher tier cards. I would never ever buy a reference card or an SC with the idea of superclocking it, especially so if I was liquid cooling it as I know that the silicon simply likely wont do it, or the power phase system will hold me back. The FTW boards are custom PCBs/binned chips that are engineered for much greater potential throughput, and can provide adequate power so long as the chip as able to stably perform. I like your style and videos, however I feel addressing grades of silicon + added power phases and the capabilities they provide for "hardcore" users is important, and would expand your viewer audience. Advanced overclocker? Buy a FTW model. Tech inclined user? Buy an SC model. Causal user? Buy a reference model. This is meant in the light of constructive criticism, and would enjoy your thoughts.

Hi, thanks for the awesome video! I do have one question about the 1080 FE vs a FTW. I have a custom built PC with good airflow so an open air cooler wouldn't be a problem. But personally I prefer the Founders Edition in terms of aesthetics. Would it be a silly or dumb decision to purchase a Founders Edition over a FTW simply for that reason? I have read that the FE thermally throttles and the FTW is generally superior in every way, whether it be cooling or performance. Is there any merit to those claims? Thanks! :)

The FTW needs a big case to fit properly. Make sure it will fit with cables in place. Also, they all have coil whine. Even the ten phase FTW does.

Mine FTW2 core clock goes up to 1974Hz stock oc and memory clock able to manually oc +500. That's a significant boost over the other two.

Good info. I was always wondering this after. So I had the EVGA SC for my 780 Ti and it was nice & quiet on an open case, I had the Founders in my 3U workstation, kept cool but it was the louder fan in there. I got the Founders for my 980 Ti and now its in an open frame so may just adapt it to a custom cooler like ThermalRight Arrow. So on the 1080 Ti Founders, cam I basically add the RGB if I find a used parts? Is it a direct bilt on or special made? I'm waiting on a used 2080 Ti but at this point, doesn't look like I'm gonna get to pick. lol
