Steve, where's Tin?, now that you're in Taiwan it would be great if you Interview him and give him a "lift up" with a KZbin channel, he has so much knowledge to share with the world in order to be preserved. Knowledge and skills must be passed on and never forgotten by new generations. The way you did the interview, tone, rhythm, proper questions and also the jokes were spot on, it feels like talking to a dear cousin and lets the viewer feel connected as if you were long time friends of the audience, from high school or childhood, something like that. Greetings from CHIAPAS MEXICO, big hugs to all the GN team and to Tin and Vince.

Well the answer is pretty easy. The GPU cooler is already extremely long. Many cases can't fit the power connector next to it on the side
@LeoDavidson
@LeoDavidson Жыл бұрын
@@asnaeb2 Many cases can't fit it where it is either, haha. Most 4090s will not go in an O11D, which is probably the most popular type of case these days. The 4090 is too large in two dimensions for my current case (O11 WGX, the O11D precursor). NVidia really needed to make that connector a right angled one, whichever position it ended up in, especially with the 12VHPWR connector being so sensitive in the end.

Man, this succinct comment sums it up better than I could, without rambling on and on. EVGA, since I was probably 15 or so and started paying attention (am 30) always seemed like the de facto card you wanted as a consumer. Like, why WOULDN'T you bet the extra money on EVGA quality? All but guaranteed to be perfect out the box with better components than others of similar price. Having them as a reliable go-to/preference was a luxury, it seems. I get why they wanted to exit, I guess. (Wait, no I don't, I can't pretend to know anything about multi-billion dollar business decisions made by old, traditional, hierarchical Chinese business magnates... still not sure they made the "right" decision over the "proud" decision)

It is just another example of how the business departments of the PC companies are really out of touch for the real world around them and their customers. You would think guys like him would be immediately snatched away to other companies GPU dev teams with the news of EVGA getting out. In my humble opinion and if done right people like him and TiN, are big selling points for the Gaming industry. But they all just more interested in how they can milking even more money out, and not so much in the product itself which they develop and produce.

I recently replaced my EVGA 2090 Super Hybrid with a used EVGA 3090 hybrid and this will probably be the last Nvidia card I will ever own. In 5 years my next video card is going to be an AMD card. Nvidia got too greedy with their 4000 series cards and the quality of their cards is crap now.
@JACS420
@JACS420 Жыл бұрын
@@Josh_D78 I realize it’s asking a lot of an engineer. I’ve never understood why evga didn’t hit the cooling market harder. I’ve had both brands, my evga was great, but I prefer MSI more. Aesthetics are way better, im not a huge over clocker either. I think the EVGA engineers are F’n awesome, but I see why they hit a brick wall now. Aesthetics went out the window at the corporate level. As of right now if you’re wanting an aesthetically pleasing 3 series, you get the choice of MSI, or a few smaller Chinese/Taiwanese manufacturers. My 3060Ti doesn’t even have MSI lit up on it, has a very pleasing dragon logo, that lights up, along with 2 just perfect rgb lights. It’s not in your face, but also not cringe. It amazes me gigabyte stayed in the gpu market longer than EVGA. I’m not sure who’s buying gigabyte cards but they look super cheap. If you’re one of those even brand loyal people, MSI adapted and got rid of all the cringe during the pandemic, and imo it was for the better. You could probably slide it in a lot of builds and get away with it aesthetically.

This was so cool to watch verifying so much for me at the build level. He didn't make or engineer the products. The heavy lifting was always done by engineers beforehand with KingPin acting as a technologist. His work, no shade, was akin to that of an automotive tuner like AMG before the acquisition by Mercedes-Benz, kind of like 3M making products better. Folks, the ground work is still done by engineers. He was a conduit for the community of buyers and enthusiasts to give them what they wanted instead of having to hack it together with possible dubious results. Though not mentioned, I see the Z590 Dark, swell board that I'm using now with NVLinked EVGA 3090 XC3 GPUs for machine learning. What I do not know, and EVGA wasn't able to confirm is the purpose of the DIP switches to enable or disable power to the PCIe slots. That would have worked so well if, space available, the dip activated switches on the board to isolate the PCIe slots electrically, as the board still sees the other card and configures the lanes accordingly. With my use case, it would be so easy to flip the lid, toggle the DIP, unplug the second card's power connectors, and remove the NVLink for better performance when gaming, getting the full 16 lanes instead of eight. That feature appears to be downright useless. Does anyone have a use case for such a device? I chose the Dark for its features not pertaining to nitrogen overclocking. It replaced an ASUS Z590-E because of expansion slot spacing primarily. The PS/2 keyboard and mouse connector is also a hit. The only thing I would have loved would have been the addition of Thunderbolt 4 or the ability to add it in the future. It would have allowed the possibility to adding fast peripherals when both primary slots are used, while the third is covered by a GPU. It would be going through the PCH anyway, so please offer that as an option--talking to you EVGA : ). By the way, at the time of buying, the FTW3 boards were scarce at best and cost more than the Dark at market! Only one NIC killed it for me. Oh yes, give me the API to control the fans puhleezze! Gotta give it to you sir and EVGA, this Z590 is the best. Don't get me wrong; I do like the ASUS Z590-E. It would have been great if it could handle the RAM that the Dark does without a hiccup and have similar slot spacing. Plus, I have complete control over the fans from the OS. Sorry for the rant, just had to get that off.

I splurged on an SR2 back in the day along with a couple ES 6 core Xeons off eBay. Roughly $1200 worth of hardware that was untouched by anything else available. That was some of the most fun I ever had.

Seriously this huts my heart. I have been EVGA forever. Trying AMD for the first time because I dont have the trust in any other Nvidia brand. They may be fine but man EVGA was my jam.

That was so awesome seeing the walkthrough of their history with EVGA... and oh my gosh the Roboclocker block and that 4 way SLI LN2 PCIE Daughterboard thing was epic....but man so sad at the same time to know it's over. I really hope he starts that YT channel, I feel a decent amount of the GN viewers will sub. Stay up Vince. RIP EVGA

@@AnthonySalierno I wouldn't count on Nvidia doing anything good for the consumer. EVER. Unless there's an entire change in leadership (from goofy leather jacket man on down), Nvidia will go down with the ship along with their pirate's booty if things should ever get bad for them.

@@macd7743 I have no hopes for NVIDIA. Hopefully AMD will do to them what they have done to Intel. Either way I want Vince(kingpin) to continue to work to provide his cards, motherboards etc. EVGA is a tragic loss yet I commend them. Hopefully Vince can work with several aftermarket vendors to produce his cards in the way he wants

The support, engineering, and the slight almost 'rogueish' culture on building really awesome upper tier cards was second to none. I'm so happy that I think I even bought the last 3090 FTW3 that was for sale on the site back on Dec 5th. It disappeared after purchasing it, and haven't seen it return since. That deal could not have been out there very long, as I was refreshing almost hourly for a couple weeks when I missed the ones around Thanksgiving. Am super curious to know if they're still going to release more new cards of the 30xx, or just end up only supporting what's out there. I'm going to miss this line from them badly, but at least will be happy for quite some time again. nVidia really shot themselves in the foot by losing them.

"I'm so happy that I think I even bought the last 3090 FTW3 that was for sale on the site back on Dec 5th" I've owned this exact model for a long time now, makes me feel old. I've gotten plenty of mileage out of it though and keep pushing the existing overclock even further. Great product!

E-Bikes are very popular right now, helped my friend convert his Endurance bike into an e-bike (using Bafang hardware)! It was fun and has achieved over 1300 miles in just over a month! Hydraulic brakes and an improved clutch de-railer, higher rated longer chain etc.. And yes, definitely more Kingpin videos! Never purchased much that's EVGA though, usually out my budget except the silly sound card i have (EVGA Nu Audio Pro 7.1) lol which was designed partly by AudioNote in the UK...yet i still had to import the bloody card! Also, Mr Vince aka Kingpin..."overclocking" e-bikes when?? :) Beef up the brushless motor, more voltage, liquid cooled MosFETs etc..
