Thank GAAAAWD. Someone who knows how to do something other than chug with this amp. I knew it was a multidimensional amp. I just had to suffer through a gaggle of metalheads doing CHUG .....CHUG CHUG .......CHUGGADA CHUGGADA CHUG ......I wanted to peel the skin off my face. This is a great demo. What a breath of fresh air. Outstanding playing man.

Follow up to my original comment: I bought one - hoping to be able to step it down by running the gain really low. It basically neutered the dynamics. I returned it. This lion wants to roar. If someone has the same idea in mind, there are better options. Bogner Shiva comes to mind

@@DrProgNerd here's a trick I use with my Original 5150. I run a "Timmy" pedal with the gain at 1, the bass and treble cut to taste, but the output pulled back a little to add less gain in front which tames the high gains of the 5150 when I want too. I have used this method with other monster gain amps and each time with success. And when I want high gains, I kick the pedal off.

@@DrProgNerd I found that having the game cut back can create some really nice tones that are not just metal. But it does thrive for playing metal but you can also do rock with it. You can also get nice chiming clean tones but it’s a trick of the EQ.

Excellent review! I own this amp and really love it’s sound. I was looking for an amp that had decent cleans, could do Plexi classic rock and 80’s tones and also deliver over the top gain when I want to get a bit “crazy”. I never understood why it gets “bashed” so much online. It’s like a multi tool to me. Excellent price point and is very handy especially when you need to cover several types of genres. You really did this amp justice with this demo. You also just earned another sub!

I find it interesting this is the first out of the last 25 videos I’ve watch that actually dove in to different “realistic” tones. Excellent job! Good call demoing the clean tones with all the combinations of single coils, P-90s, and humbuckers. I've never understood the whole "let's just skip over the clean tone because nobody's buying this for cleans" mindset. You're literally covering EVERY angle with these demos man, I have no clue how you still have under 30k subs. Keep doing what you do so well and I'll keep watching and sharing!

All of these people complain about the blue channel on the EL34, and clipping a capacitor to sound like the 6L6 variant, "the blue is unusable." This video proves that wrong. Excellent work!! (I don't own the EL34, I have the 6L6, but I try to advocate for the EL34 in it's stock form). You are a very versatile player, I really enjoyed the jams.

Watched all of your 5150 III reviews (and a number of others too) to help in my recent amp purchase choice and went with the EL34 in the end due to the greater versatility it seemed to offer. However, when the amp arrived, I struggled to get decent tones at first. Dialling in the tone settings on green for a good clean sound ended up sounding bad when I'd switch to the blue channel. Also had issues with both the red and blue channels (especially blue) with everything sounding very bassy/boomy even when the resonance and "low" tone knobs were dialled right back. Was really struggling to get a satisfactory metal sound across the 2 high gain channels unless I cut the low end completely and used nothing but the bridge pickup on my various guitars. Was genuinely beginning to think the amp had a serious problem. However, after revisiting your videos and trying out a number of your settings, I have managed to resolve the problem and am getting some sounds I am pretty happy with. So, I have to give you a double thank you for helping me select the amp and then for fixing up my sound! Keep up the good work. One extra tip for new buyers - if you buy the matching 2x12 cab, don't just leave it sitting on carpeted floor with just it's rubber stoppers. Causes the bottom end to be magnified way too much! Use the castors and/or the tilted speaker mounts or get it off the floor some other way :)

Thanks for lingering on the clean channel, which gets overlooked sometimes. If there is a head the can do great open cleans, that 80s brown, and modern metal better I've never heard it. Bonus points for the Resonance insert shots! The only thing bad about the head (due to footprint) is the resonance knob on the back. For endless fun, put a Petrucci Dreamscape pedal in the effects loop. ALL the EVH phase plus modern chorus and trem modulations that play nice with high gain.

I’ve been in a search of a go-to IR for my 5150 rig for quite some time now. I tried many popular IRs, but most of them are either too mid-focused or way too scooped or lacking presence. Those i liked on isolated guitars - got lost in the mix and those sitting good in the mix i did not like isolated. But after this video it seems i finally found what i need - “modern” and “bite” mixes from the OH pack you use. Thanks a lot!
