EVH 6L6 vs EL34 C137 Mod - One and the Same?!?!

The C137 mod is just a bass cut mod, it will NOT turn your EL34 EVH amp into a Stealth, lol, but it is a worth mod and super easy.

Great video. I could tell a slight difference on the low end but really had to listen close. The EL34 had slightly more guts if that makes any sense. Both great amps whether with the EL34 mod or not. For me on the EL34 a little OD does the trick. Again, great video

@@robbiepenninger4111 - yep, EL34 is great, just different. Super thick and chewy. The 6L6 is tighter and voiced differently.

Thanks! Very informative and clears up some of the confusion floating around. I'm so tempted to buy either the Stealth 6L6 or EL34 50 watt, but I am so afraid that I'm not able to play it at reasonable home/ bedroom volumes. I'm not too fond of buying an attenuator. What is your opinion on this? You also compared the EL34 EVH to a Marshall DSL. How would you say the EVH compares to something like DSL 20 watt head? Thanks!

Hi rollingstart….the both sound good at bedroom volume. You could get one of those JHS black boxes to run through the loop if you want to crank the volume a little. Those work pretty good

I did the C137 snip. Much better but still something lacking. So I added a 1uF 200V cap to the empty C28 position (which the 6L6 has from factory) .. Much better, with slightly more gain in the upper mods.
