You're a great player. I like seeing (and hearing) these affordable Les Pauls. I have a red studio that was always really enjoyable. Then I took it to a luthier and wow, what I got back is a dream machine. Got the guitar for $700, later spent another $100 for some blemishes and a pro setup. Whilst I believe you didn't ding it to get some money back, some people play those types of games. I've been reluctant to sell some of my stuff on Reverb or eBay for this very reason. Thanks for chiming in, so interesting to hear everyone’s opinions. I had the gamut of HTs and found that they just didn’t take pedals as well as the DSLs. I was able to take a lot of the fizz factor out of the DSL with a 12AY7 in V1, cold biasing or using a Creamback. I had the Studio JCM and it was just ok. I always heard there was a Nasally aspect to the Jubiee ~ aka Slash’s tone.

Most techs would advise adjusting bias to 70% of max output, but it’s actually a matter of taste as well. A little bit either way is fine, hotter will decrease tube life but delivers some top end sizzle while cooler biasing will extend tube life and produce more of a “crunch” tone.

The curve matching fingers is bs. For me to apply bar pressure it comes from the center knuckle right at the top of the radius. The theory is backwards but sounds cool for marketing. Great video. Thanks for posting. I've been reading through some other comments and am thinking the preference might be a generational thing. I ended up leaving the V12 in the amp, but had an old KMD cab from the 90s. I put a V30 in it, and switch back and forth between the two depending on the mood. Sometimes I run both together and hit the full power mode and shake the house apart. 🙂 The Creamback definitely has more bass response in your vid, and the V30 definitely is scooped. such a great amp but my mh fx loop is causing an infinite delay with a delay pedal that gets extremely loud and distorted, it recently started doing this, my pedals work completely fine in the fronts it just the fx loop. any idea what would cause this, do you know what preamp tube controls the fx loop?

Weird, I’d try a different delay (some other pedal) with nothing else, or even using a patch cable in the loop with no pedals at all and see what happens. Looks like all the preamp/loop buffer tubes are the same value so you could just rotate each one over a socket to see if it’s a tube. Does the loud infinite delay stop when you switch the effects loop OFF?

Wow, your comments are totally different than my experience with the PT15. Channel 1 is crystal clean. It’s based on the Suhr Bella. Great pedal platform. Can get a spanky with the bright switch for a more Fender Blackface sound. Turning the gain knob up does make it fatter sounding. You don’t get crunch from it unless you are cranking the master volume way up. The channel volumes and the master all have a symbiotic relationship in the way it was designed. It won’t sound correct unless you have them dialed correctly with each other which is something I had to play with. It generally performs best with the channel volumes at 4-5 and then the master volume to taste but it really sounds best when pushed to at least 3-4 on the master. I have no problem getting a lower gain crunch and keeping it thick sounding. Sounded about 95% the same as my old Marshall Plexi, EVH 100w and DSL100 I sold. Channel 3 I don’t have any problem putting a Klon in front of and getting a singing lead tone without it sounding compressed at all. It doesn’t sing like the Soldano without the Klon though. The gain is more hot rodded Marshall than the liquidy Soldano. For me the Soldano was just un-gigable live as I needed pure clean, crunch and lead and the inability to footswitch between clean and crunch on the SLO30 and the volume drop on the clean channel even if you could is too much of an issue for me and it doesn’t get clean enough with the volume knob in the crunch setting. I’d consider the SLO30 with the Mesa head track switcher as the SLO30 is a fun amp but I’d need a separate clean amp to switch with and being more expensive than the PT15 makes it kind of impractical. Glad you got to try the PT15 though and that you enjoy the SLO so much.

Nice demo! Good results. I played mine with the Seventy-80 for a week before I yanked it. I dime the masters and blast, so the original speaker was not worth the pain to me. Maybe it would break in, but its the scratchiest, brain pierciest speaker for a trebly amp. Threw in Greenback - better but surprisingly not quite it. Tonkerlite - better for clarity but not in love. Neo V-type - pretty darn good but its also a bit too bright. Then I had pulled a Neo Creamback from another amp and put it in - this nailed it! It's sort of like a Greenback with a smoother break and doesnt go from Zero-to-Cone Slapping like the Green. So the CB stays. I still need to mellow some highs on the clean channel, even with treble/presence below 9:00, so trying tubes next. As soon as I make it perfect, I'll probably sell it for a JTM or Bluesbreaker, lol.

never done this before - so am i right in thinking you have the amp switched on and guitar plugged in - amp turned up to high volume but volume on guitar down yeah?

Cool, volume doesn’t have to be high, just amp ON, Guitar plugged in (not necessary either but why not), and amp in Full Power mode rather than half or low power. A load or Speaker is also a must, but in this combo that’s taken care of already. Good luck! I settled on around 32 mV if memory serves.

I’ve owned both the stealth and the EL34 ! I sold the Stealth because I liked the EL34 grit in the Clean channel way better ! From there I bought the Friedman JEL20 . At first I thought the EVH was more me ! Then ; one day, I dialed that JEL in with a Warm Audio Odd Box OD pedal ! After that ; as much as I wanted to like the EVH it sounded sterile ! I then traded my EVH ( even up ) for a Marshall studio Jubilee ! That head with a MXR EQ set into the loop IMHO KILLS IT ! I’ll never look back ! I guess that’s why they make so many different amps . Retubing the EVH heads too , OUCH ! $$$$$. Anyhow; I do understand the love for the EVH , I thought it was pretty good compared to the MT15 , my old Rectoverb 50 , 5150 Block letter , Bogner etc etc , CHEERS ! 👍👊🤘

Dig your story and can totally relate, something keeps climbing to the top of the hill \m/ I may have reached a new height with the SLO30 however… loving it. Had a Suhr PT15 in for a couple of weeks but took it back, very expensive but not my thing. Glad you found the sound in your head!

I was trying a guitar at Sweetwater and played the slo30 through a mesa 4x12 and it was just thick and awesome. For noise gates check out the isp gstring. I've used them for years and found them to be the best for 5150s.

@@MattW4319 - I ended up with a Sentry NG and its worked great for me. I recently picked up a SLO30 and imo, it’s the new King of the Hill.
