Agreed. It’s a 2k guitar. The fact that there’s no case is an absolute failure.

I think they play on that. You see the price, you sort of infer a case. Decide you want it. Then you find out it doesn’t but you want the guitar. Bam, you’re ok with another $200 or more. It’s pretty scummy if you ask me.

I tune my d-tuna backwards, lol. I unlock the nut and tune to the dropped note D in my case, with the d-tuna out. Then I lock the nut, push the tuna in and fine tune to E. It works for me and the tuning holds steadfast.

I believe that's the recommended way to setup the d-tuna. I do the same on my Frankie.

I grew up with the older rockers , Hendrix, page, Clapton, Etc. but I love this guitar , Who doesn’t like Eddie, he was a genius. I’m looking to get this guitar soon. Great review guys. Thanks for sharing.

It's my understanding that he angled the bridge pickup because the spacing on a Floyd is slightly wider. Hence the reason for trem-bucker pickups, however back in the day, the trem-buckers didn't exist, so to ensure his strings were properly over the pole pieces, he angled the pickup to accommodate for the size difference. By the time he started using the 5150 guitar, pickup makers were making the trem-buckers to more properly align with the Floyds. Eddie very rarely did things for style, for him it was about functionality.. Once humbuckers were wide enough to accommodate the Floyd spacing, he stopped angling them.

THX for this detailed review on the making of this guitar, well appreciated. Waited one year to get mine shipped and have to stay, the guitar is a gem to play (I usually play Gibson Les Paul) and sounds awesome. I do not play better, but loves the tone and seems I get near to the tone and sound of the great Eddie van Halen. A gorgeous rendering and hommage to the greatest electric guitarist ever.

Those guitars are really great my good friend bought one and let me play it, the necks are really nice. I've since built 2 black and white 78's 2 Franky and 2 5150 replicas in my shop. Kind of went EVH crazy for a few months but haven't we all?

6:58 LOL.....No. Eddie didn't just "want to play guitar", he cared about music. He wrote and produced all the Van Halen music, he had the creative vision for the project. Any dumbass could be a businessman, creativity and artistic talent is rare.

I met Eddie's road manager years ago at my x wife's grandmother's funeral,he flew out to New Jersey for the funeral,very laid back and mellow,we talked about eddie a little and he asked me if I wanted to talk to him,he was going to call him in California I told him he's probably sleeping no thanks,don't want to wake him up but that was as close as I was going to get to evh,RIP eddie..

It is the price of wood,that is raising the price of guitars,as soon as I heard lumber was going up,I ordered a bunch of guitars,all under 200 dollars,now most are going up,but there's still a time to get old stock at a decent price,but no time to hesitate,new guitars are already reflecting the wood price increase, especially the brand name guitars.

I always cry when this day comes Went looking on ebay for the Custom shops and the charvel unauthorized copies, I found one but the guy wanted about 185.000 dkk (I dont remember the usd value)
