This week I demonstrate how, with £16 worth of parts and about 20 minutes work I make my EVH Striped Series Frankenstrat guitar even easier to play than it is out of the box.

I also have the Wolfgang-Special and this is very interesting. I might test these "metal shins". Thank you

You should, it's a subtle difference but I think it makes a big difference, particularly above the 12th fret.

Pretty neat. Expensive bits of metal though.

Cheaper than a replacement bridge I suppose!!

Top tip Tom, which do you prefer the Floyd or standard Fender Strat tremolo?
@iamtjwalker8 ай бұрын
I've never had problem with my standard fender trem as I don't go mad with it.....I think I prefer not having the locking nut in general as restringing and tuning is easier!!
@stevenroach22968 ай бұрын
You could just get a Schaller/Floyd Lockmeister with the bridge radiused to 16 inches and the nut to 12 inches. But I get it. Some people don't want to spend any more money.
@iamtjwalker8 ай бұрын
I believe the lockmeister has individually adjustable saddles...but it's a rather expensive upgrade when you can achieve the same end with some cheap bits of metal! Floyd rose recommend shimming the bridge if you don't have a 10 or 12" radius as that's the only radius bridge you can buy after market. Just seems strange the EVH badged one isn't set up for the radius of all their guitars.

As i know you cant get a schaller in 16“ and no the saddles are not adjustable in height. It is the same as a fr

Do you know the thickness of the shims that you used ? And nice playing btw !
@iamtjwalker8 ай бұрын
Had to check the Allparts website! Approximately 0.2mm thick.

Ok yeah it probably improves the playability up in the widdley zone but what about down at the lower frets?
@iamtjwalker6 ай бұрын
Feels fine on the lower frets too. The radius at the nut is correct for that end of the neck so it seems to make the whole thing more uniform.
@matt926uk16 ай бұрын
@@iamtjwalker ok, it might be the way to go with my wolfgangs too then, I did notice the g string especially was a bit high. Just a bit concerned I won’t be able to get the action low enough if I raise the saddles. What height action do you have on yours? I don’t like crazy low action, about 1.5mm at 12th fret is ok for me.

Hey man, I saw someone saying that the d-tuna is damaging the body when you pull it out, can you confirm that?
@iamtjwalker8 ай бұрын
You need to have the fine tuner screw out almost as far as it goes otherwise it forces the D Tuna against the body.....it doesn't work if it's like that as when you tighten the screw it lifts the bridge and counteracts the pitch change by raising the bridge! If it's set up correctly it doesn't touch the body. The Wolfgang has an indent so you can have the screw a bit tighter which gives you a bit more flexibility for tuning.
