The renter had 2 years to re-invent herself, yet she just waited for the landlord to give her the boot, what about the Landlord's rights, who is going to compensate them for the back rent.

Everyone assumes it's some rich fatcat lighting his cigar with hundred-dollar bills so, as they have been programmed to do, they side against him and with the sad case. That's often not the situation, though, and as a society it is insane to hate those that have more. People only see the trappings of success and turn a blind eye to all the work and sacrifice required to get that success.

This is also a problem when people begin to use property ownership as a source of wealth. One thing (e.g. a plandemic) could cause the whole house of cards to come crashing down.

As a landlord who works for UPS no one cared. We still had to pay the mortgage & taxes & water. And they never deferred any payments. And the main reason rents are skyrocketing is b/c the large investors are buying properties setting that trend. It’s not the small landlords. Think about it how could we do that when we weren’t even allowed to evict tenants but still had to house them for free, even now. So bad tenants like this scammer makes it bad for everyone

It's difficult to be sympathetic towards this woman. She refused to leave when first asked, before racking up $25K in unpaid rent and fees. But reports on individuals like these distract from the reality that this woman is just an isolated data point in a Horrible Nationwide Problem. Why not talk about how the American Economy has sunken so low that even many people with full time jobs live out of their car ??? @nonstophorizon
@nonstophorizon 2 жыл бұрын
@@chasingsunsets87 No, that is only a small part of the problem. The thing is, a landlord has the right to do as they please with their property as long as it is within the law. If the rent hikes are within the law, you can't put the blame solely on them when you know they're doing it because someone will pay it. So what if you can't live in a specific neighborhood anymore; that's not really a landlord's issue. It doesn't matter if a tenant is working or not; your lease agreement states that you'll stay if you pay your rent, not if you hold down a job. Is it wrong for anyone to buy multiple properties? Does that stop someone from buying their own property somewhere they can actually afford? Also, people had almost 2 years to save up at least a dime on the rent they owed. MOST landlords have worked with those that are trying by choice even though legally they didn't have to. When you look at people being evicted, they're carrying out their new flat screen tv's, their new Playstation and Xbox consoles, or they're recording their last walk through on their $1,000 iPhone12 or 13... they can afford that, but they didn't have time to save up even a couple of hundred dollars towards what they owe? Really? Also, if landlords didn't buy property and rent that property out, who would you rent from? Stop trying to play the victim. Some landlords went nearly 2 years without pay, so stop acting like they suddenly are in the wrong for being able to evict people so that they can get their properties back, pay for any damages, and then get their lives back together as they prepare to rent their property out to someone else hoping that piece of paper will urge the tenant to keep up the end of the contract that they clearly agreed to in the first place. They can get more money out of their investment in the same way an employee can demand higher wages. Nothing stops a tenant from finding a place to rent that they can actually afford. Funny how there's plenty of housing away from the beaches and tourist towns and no housing crisis in those places.

And herein lies the problem with rent relief during the pandemic. People become spoiled and entitled to the point where they feel they don't have to work or think there will be some other sort of "relief" from the state or federal mandates they can sponge off of. The thing is, the landlord or property owner isn't afforded that same relief and stands the risk of losing their property should they not be able to pay their mortgage. This lady could have worked something out with the landlord to stay in her home but decided to be defiant instead. I feel sorry for her child who now has to suffer possible homelessness and other consequences of her mother's poor choices.

For someone who uses the name mindright, you didn't get it right this time around. The lady did try to work it out, by acknowledging she would be falling behind and attempting to get rent relief. Then the agency that is to provide that financial help went into state mandated remediation through the courts to solve some of those issues between landlord and tenant. Perhaps the court system wasn't seeing cases at their prior pace because of the pandemic and got backlogged. But the jackass landlord upon learning she was unable to pay on her own doubled her rent. And of course being unable to pay she accrued all kinds of late fees and fines. If landlord was so uncomfortable and worried he'd lose his property he could have filed for his own government relief, IRS fresh start tax forgiveness program, something. But the landlord isn't a person is it; it is a corporation and based in another video I just watched received government rental aid/compensation for this woman in 2020 at the original $2500 rent price but when it was nearly finished that's when the company hiked up the rent. How long did she receive rent assistance for? No one says. Was it enough time for her to get back on her feet if she'd been diligently trying to do so? I don't know but it doesn't seem like getting a job as a hostess, bus driver or whatever people have been suggesting is going to cover the rent even if the corporation had left it at $2500 and not doubled it like the greedy f-ers did just because they could.

I am a landlord and I own a 45 unit building. When the eviction moratorium went into effect in my state about half of my renters stopped paying. They claimed that they were unemployed or had their hours curtailed. Instead of using the extra money that they were getting an unemployment to keep up with the rent they decided that new televisions new furniture or newer cars were more important. I faced a serious shortfall of income and had to rely on savings and had to cash in a life insurance policy so I could still make the mortgage and property taxes. When the moratorium was over I sent the tenants notice to make payment arrangements for back rent or face eviction. I gave them 30 days. I had no qualms whatsoever evicting tenants and sueing them for back rent.

People who waited out the 2 years now face a huge price increase. 2 years ago prices were cheaper. I did this for three years while trying to work full-time + and help my sister with her disabled child. I couldn’t live with her because there wasn’t room, and because my well established job was located 80 miles away in a very heavily populated large metropolitan area. So I took a room at an Extended Stay America residence motel six miles from my work M-Th nights, drove up to my sister on Friday night, spent the weekend, and left around 4:45 AM on Monday morning. All I had to cart with me were my work supplies, clothing, and a few personal items. The motel had everything, pots, plates, cutlery, a laundromat, a cleaners with tailor, 24 hour mini mart, gym, pool, hair and beauty salon, and a walk-in medical office across the street, also 24 hours. If you didn’t want to do your own cleaning, there was daily maid service for an extra fee. If you stayed a full week, you’d get the regular maid service like any other hotel. WiFi was included, and was excellent, very fast, no glitches. There was parking for $10.00 night for stays under a week, (a bargain in this city!), $50 per week, or $100 per month. No car was no problem. There was free shuttle service every hour to the nearest :airport three miles away, sign up in advance. If you couldn’t get on, then taxi, Uber, Lyft, or bus. To the two more distant airports, you were on your own, but there was no lack of public transportation. Private limo for top price and speed, to bus, tram, to bus and subway and bus again, slow as molasses in January, but cheap! Sort of like frequent flyer miles, you got frequent guest discounts. The more you stayed, the less the price. It was certainly less than renting an apartment or moving around to rooming houses or the YMCA, considering all the services and conveniences. Oh, yes, in the morning there was complimentary grab and go breakfast. Coffee, tea, hot cocoa, orange or apple juice, granola and cereal bars, instant oatmeal packs, and dried fruit like raisins, cranberries, apples, pineapple.

Hopefully no other landlord gets stuck w this entitled tenant. Evictions are like the plague when you are a landlord. Esp if they got evicted for refusing to pay $25K.

Why is she on here? She back owes 25,000 in rent? Her eviction is legal and necessary, unfortunately the owner has to pay his mortgage and if you haven’t paid that long, it’s sad, but no one owes you a free place to live period.

This renter doesn’t pay the mortgage, homeowner’s insurance, building improvements, yard maintenance, land taxes, electricity, gas and her utilities. She’s absolutely right, the cost of her housing is NOT EVENLY SPREAD. Greed?! Who’s paying to house her and her daughter.? Not herself.
