If you really think about it, @@aahen5303 you could see when Aurora found out it was Maleficent (The fairy watching Aurora after all those 16 years) you could both the pain and regret in Maleficent thinking "I wish I've never cursed her in the first place" or "What have I done" meaning she started truly caring Aurora (I don't think from the shadows count even though yes she did save Aurora from fall to her death or giving Aurora something to eat when those three fairies can't find anything to eat but you know what I mean) as a mother

You know before Disney Plus this was the first Sleeping Beauty movie I saw but never saw the original but when Disney Plus arrived on November 12th 2019 just almost 3 months ago I thought "Finally I can watch Sleeping Beauty" and I watched Sleeping Beauty and I thought it's really good. I see why Disney chose Angelina Jolie to play Maleficent and Elle Fanning to play Aurora. They were both born to play those roles

I feel so bad for Maleficent. I thought the movie was great at developing her character into something that can be identified with among the modern audience. I truly love this scene, though it's super gut wrenching. The way Aurora says "No, don't touch me, your what's evil in this world, it's you." It was so hard because she truly loved her as a person and yet couldn't understand why she had kept a secret and gave her a curse like that. Poor thing, and I didn't know how Elle Fanning would deliver as Aurora but she sure proved me wrong and I can't see anyone else anymore doing her (especially Angelina as Maleficent...like seriously she was BORN for that role).

We don't know if she really was though because that movie is about Aurora not Maleficent. In the original you don't learn about her, other than she put a curse on Aurora and the assumption that she was evil because of her actions. But you don't see the good she did like they are explaining here.

I was watching one of the interviews on the Sleeping Beauty dvd and long-time Disney animator Will Finn made a very good point that the original story is only four or five paragraphs long. So you can pretty much take the story in any direction, as long as you stay true to the text. Watching the classic 1959 animated version, I always felt there was some personal beef Maleficent had with King Stefan, we just didn't know why and you could hear it in her voice in certain scenes whenever she mentions him. In this version all of those questions are answered and it's left up to the viewer to determine if she truly earns the title of "the bad fairy" or was she driven to do bad things. There was still enough good in her to care for Aurora and that's what made the audience cheer for her at the end. I'm definitely going to see this one again and perhaps I'll pick up even more clues than when I saw it last weekend.

If true beauty is inner beauty shining through - then Maleficent should take center stage here. Hers was the 'pure heart' betrayed and redeemed by "true love"'s kiss. I did not like Elle so much in the trailers primarily because of the English accent. Sounded too fake but much better during the movie as a whole. She was really good in the story I believe. Sweet. Innocent. The Disney cartoon had Aurora looking like a twenty something with no wasteline. Her "I know you I walked with you once upon a dream.... " was a little too teasey for an innocent. And using the 'f' word to judge innocence of any kind is kinda moot. Innocence is far too easily betrayed and ruined these days. Time to take it back. It's a simple yet profound and beautiful story.
